A massive Red Skull loomed above, its visage casting a web-like shadow across the ceiling, radiating a sinister red glow. Snakes continuously fell from within, cascading down like a relentless tide.
I had been terrified of snakes since childhood; even a single snake skin could send me into a panic. Now, countless snakes were tumbling down from that Red Skull, twisting and coiling on the bed, filling every inch with their vibrant colors—reds, greens, and yellows—crawling over one another in a writhing mass. Their flickering tongues darted out, poised to strike at any moment.
The temperature around me was plummeting. My limbs felt icy, and my palms were sticky with a cold sweat that I couldn't tell was from fear or the remnants of the snakes' passage.
They slithered freely over my body, even burrowing into my clothes, writhing against my skin with every movement.
An overwhelming panic spread through me; my scalp tingled as if it might explode at any moment. My heart raced beyond my control, and my breaths became short and frantic.
I felt every pore on my body constricting as if I were an animal sensing danger, instinctively wanting to flee. Goosebumps erupted all over me as the coldness of the snakes brushed against my skin, yet I had no strength to resist; I couldn't even cry for help—only tremors coursed through me.
"Why are you so afraid?"
Bai Su stood at the edge of the bed, her wide serpent tail coiled elegantly behind her. A captivating smile graced her exquisite face, and she seemed even more beautiful than yesterday.
"I just realized you are the Lord of the Ghost Fetus. If I consume the Demon Fetus inside you, I could enhance my power for a thousand years. Then I wouldn't have to fear the Serpent Burial's Realgar."
I trembled uncontrollably, forcing myself not to look at the snakes. I needed to think of their nemesis quickly—something like the Phantom Spirit Pearl to protect myself—but opening my eyes revealed snakes, and closing them only brought more snakes to mind. My brain felt like it was shutting down under the weight of sheer terror.
"When a human carries a Demon Fetus, it will inevitably backfire on the Mother when it is born. Why not let me consume the Demon Fetus? It would be better than dying so young, wouldn't it?"
A snake as thick as an arm flicked its tongue in front of me, inching closer to my mouth. I was so frightened that I couldn't even keep my lips sealed; I fought back a gag as my mind teetered on the brink of emptiness.
"If you don't speak up, I'll take action!" A strong tremor reverberated from the doorway as Bai Su smiled slightly. "Don't expect that child outside to save you; she might be in trouble herself! This place has already become the realm of snakes. Ultimately, it's thanks to you! If you hadn't pitied that woman and let her in here, how could I have destroyed the Realgar powder to lay snake eggs? Even with your Realgar, you won't be able to break through this snake formation anytime soon. During this time, I'll obtain the Demon Fetus, and your Realgar will be powerless against me! Hahaha!"
Bai Su laughed wildly as she extended her slender arm toward me. A pure white snake, as thick as a thumb, coiled around her wrist, its mouth agape and constantly flicking its tongue in an aggressive stance.
"Go on, burrow into her Navel and consume the soul of the Demon Fetus."
No! Don't harm my child!
I instinctively struggled, and the snakes around me immediately raised their bodies, baring their fangs in a threatening posture. If I moved even slightly, they would collectively attack and bite me to death.
But if I remained still, I couldn't save my child.
The small white snake had already begun to crawl slowly up from my toes, its twisting body quickly stopping at my lower abdomen. The surrounding snakes seemed to have received a command, lifting my garment to expose my navel.
The sound of my heart pounding filled my ears, growing faster like an exhilarating drumbeat. The white snake flicked its tongue and twisted its body, burrowing its head into my navel. Instantly, a pain began to spread from that point, and I could almost hear my baby’s terrified cries.
“Mommy, help me! Mommy!”
“No, don’t hurt my child! Please!”
I felt something inside me shatter as I screamed out loud.
Bai Su narrowed her eyes, and all the snakes lunged toward me. At the same time, a golden light radiated from my body, like ripples from a disturbance, spreading outward and pushing all the snakes away from the bed.
The fear of the snake horde had already permeated the air. In that moment, I felt myself falling downward continuously; the light above me grew farther away while my body became increasingly cold—cold enough to forget what warmth felt like.
I also forgot who I was.
I yanked out the snake that had burrowed into my navel, squeezing it tightly until it turned into a pool of dark blood.
Bai Su was also knocked against the wall by that burst of light; her white snake tail cushioned her impact to prevent injury. However, the small snakes on the ground were not so fortunate—a dark mass mixed with red blood lay scattered about.
To kill a snake by striking its vital point meant certain death.
“Who… who are you?” Bai Su looked at me in panic, her complexion losing some of its rosy hue and turning pale. “You’re not Gu Anxin.”
“Who am I?”
I stood up from the bed, gazing at the stains around me and at my delicate hands, unable to recall for a moment.
"Mom, you are my mom."
"Baby?" I looked down at my belly, feeling the presence inside, and smiled lightly. "I remember, you are my child."
"Mom, that snake demon is a bad person. She wants to eat the baby, and she wants to kill you too. Mom, use your power to kill her, kill her!"
"Kill?" I raised my head and saw her white-patterned snake body. A shiver ran through me, cold and trembling, but upon hearing my baby's voice, a murderous intent arose within me. "The snake must die."
It felt as if my body moved on its own according to the thoughts in my mind. I blinked and found myself in front of the snake demon, one hand gripping her neck tightly, fingers digging in as if to strangle her.
"You... your eyes—who are you?"
Bai Su struggled in pain, but I tilted my head to look at her. "You want to kill my baby. I won't allow anyone to harm my child, so you must die!"
"No, don't kill me! I know a way to ensure the Demon Fetus is born smoothly and can turn against Mother. Just don't kill me, and I'll tell you."
Bai Su pleaded desperately. My grip loosened slightly. "Speak."
"The King of Hell has something that can protect you. Let me go, and I'll take you to him. This is something I learned by chance; it's absolutely true."
"The King of Hell?" I pondered as I lowered my head, loosening my grip further. "Who is the King of Hell?"
"The King of Hell is—"
At that moment, voices came from outside the door. Her eyes darted around before she shouted, "Gu Anxin has lost control!"
With a loud bang, the door was forcefully slammed open. Jun Chong and Shizui rushed in one after another, both covered in bloodstains. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the man in the dark robe; an indescribable emotion surged within me, causing my hand to instinctively loosen.
Seeing her chance, Bai Su crouched down and transformed into her snake form, attempting to escape through the window.
"Not good!" Shizui shouted as he immediately went after her. My eyes narrowed as I positioned myself at the window's edge, blocking the snake demon's escape route. "You are not going anywhere."
"I have told you everything I know, and I have no intention of targeting your Demon Fetus. Please let me go."
"The baby says you cannot be released. Kill her; blood must be shed, or take me to the King of Hell."
Upon hearing the mention of the King of Hell, Jun Chong furrowed his brow and glared at the snake demon with a murderous intent.
I spread my right hand, and a ball of red light slowly coalesced in my palm. Soon, a slender red sword emerged from within, its surface shimmering with rippling waves of crimson, quite beautiful to behold.
"Not good, that is—" Shizui exclaimed as he looked at the sword in my hand.
Taking advantage of the moment, Bai Su raised her hands, and Red Skull transformed into a red net that enveloped her, spreading from head to tail and forming a barrier that shimmered with red ripples.
A slight smirk appeared on her lips as a tiny red snake surged toward me along with the descending net.
I gripped the hilt of the sword and flicked my wrist, severing the little red snake in two. The blade spun around and struck her, but was repelled by the red net.
Narrowing my eyes slightly, I struck again. The sword seemed to possess a spirit of its own; its speed was astonishing as it aimed for Bai Su's tail. A flash of red light severed her tail cleanly.
"Ah—"
Bai Su howled in pain on the ground, where the severed part ignited in crimson flames, scorching the area. The barrier shrank back, transforming into a skull that swiftly vanished out the window.
"You... that sword is from the Su Family's Blood Flame Sword. You are one of them," Bai Su stammered, pointing at me. I tilted my head in confusion. "What is the Su Family?"
Sword Tip pointed directly at her, causing Bai Su to tremble in fear. She collapsed to the ground and turned to Jun Chong for help. "She has lost control and is being manipulated by the Demon Fetus! Think of something quickly; otherwise, we will all die."
I frowned slightly and followed her gaze toward the motionless Mysterious Man. His eyes were dark and deep like black holes that absorbed all light yet clearly reflected my shadow.
For some reason, seeing him made my heart ache as if a voice was telling me that I knew him.
"Good."
He simply replied with one word, flipping the Black Longsword from his wrist and mercilessly stabbing it into Bai Su's vital point. Bai Su let out a terrified scream, her voice fading before it reached its peak.
Jun Chong raised and lowered his sword, slicing through her serpent skin. With bare hands, he rummaged for a moment and pulled out a transparent orb. I curiously asked, "What is that?"
"Her Essence Core. Cultivating for a thousand years, it's a great supplement; it will be beneficial for you."
He approached me slowly, his hands covered in blood. Instinctively, I stepped back, the voice of my baby echoing clearly in my mind: "Mommy, he's a bad person. He's always been stopping my birth. Mommy, kill him; he's a bad person. Kill him."
"Kill him."
I felt my sword hand extend toward him, but he didn’t stop, inching closer with each step. "Don't come any closer," I warned, but he ignored me. I kept retreating until my back hit the wall, yet he still didn’t halt his advance.
"Mommy, he's a bad person. Kill him! Kill! Kill! Kill!"
The word "kill" spread through my mind like wildfire. I closed my eyes, feeling a force hesitating within me, battling against the power in my hand. My sword hand trembled until it suddenly pressed against something.
Opening my eyes, I saw that his chest was against the Sword Tip. Blood that shouldn’t have flowed from a soul trickled slowly from the wound but did not congeal.
A Spirit would not bleed if injured by spiritual power; however, this sword was an ordinary object and would inevitably draw blood from anything it pierced—this was the Su Family Blood Flame!
