Because I couldn't refuse Jun Chong's request, I had to temporarily separate from him and take some time to tidy myself up from head to toe. While getting dressed, I noticed a horizontal scar on my abdomen, resembling the incision from a cesarean section.
It hadn't healed; instead, it was a straight line, very thin, with no stitches but tightly closed. I touched it, pulling at it from different angles, and felt no pain; my stomach didn't rupture.
Since Junxin was born, I hadn't felt much. I always thought she didn't come from my body. If it weren't for this scar, I might have never believed I had given birth.
But I did give birth, successfully delivering the Demon Fetus.
"Heart Eyes, you must return to your mother safely and quickly."
I touched the scar and finished dressing. The reason my wound had healed automatically before was due to the power of the Demon Fetus. Now that the Demon Fetus was gone, I was just an ordinary person.
Yet I could feel a warm current stirring within me, coming from the Blood Flame Sword's power. It lay hidden deep within my body, quiet as if it were lifeless.
When I returned to the room, Jun Chong had just finished his meditation. Seeing me enter, he reached out and instantly pulled me into his embrace. I frowned slightly and said with mild reproach, "You've exhausted too much spiritual energy; don't use it unnecessarily."
"But I want to hold you as soon as I see you, no matter how far apart we are."
Jun Chong rested his chin on my neck, his cool breath brushing against my ear, tickling me. I reached out to push him away, but he blocked my hand and then took my earlobe into his mouth.
A wave of tingling heat surged from that spot to my head and then downwards. His agile tongue licked my tender earlobe—ticklish and wet. Instinctively, I pushed him away, but he shoved me onto the bed and pinned me beneath him.
His deep voice carried a dreamy quality as it slowly penetrated my ears, softening my heart. He smiled gently, his thumb caressing my cheek. "Anxin, if it weren't for exhausting too much energy, I'd want to devour you right now; every part of you is deeply missed—inside and out."
My face was already flushed; with his sweet words added in, it felt like boiling water ready to bubble over. My gaze wandered; I found it hard to look him in the eye—his gaze was too intense to resist.
Men are often vulnerable in such matters before their beloved women; as long as I agreed, he would surely forget what he had said and go all out.
But I wanted him to recover; there would be plenty of time for certain things later—there was no need to rush.
So I gently pushed him away. Jun Chong fell flat on the bed with my push. I leaned over his chest and wrapped my arms around him. "Once you're better, you can do whatever you want, okay?"
"This is what you said." He cradled my face as if examining a rare treasure, looking closely, his eyes filled with deep concern. "You've suffered this time."
I shook my head, glancing at the Sealing Spell on my left cheek that had yet to fade. "For you, I don't mind the hardship. I was worried about you coming to the Underworld; I heard your conversation with Shizui. He said you might die in the Underworld, but now that you're safe, I can finally relax."
Jun Chong paused, blinking as he concealed the flicker of emotion in his eyes. I still thought about that matter. "I remember Shizui saying how many years you prepared for this. Are you really going to give up so easily? What else do you want besides the Phoenix Feather?"
This time, Jun Chong didn't blink; instead, he chuckled softly. "When did your memory become so good?"
"If you don't speak, does that mean there's something else? Jun Chong, how much have you sacrificed to save me? Is it really okay to give up so easily?"
"It doesn't matter whether it's good or bad. For me, as long as it's you, even life itself isn't an issue. How could I easily give up?" Jun Chong turned over and pulled me into his embrace, letting out a heavy sigh. "Anxin, my only goal is to reclaim my body, save my brother, rescue the entire Underworld, and fight against the Demon Realm. But all of that has turned to nothing in front of you. If it weren't for the existence of the Demon Fetus, I shouldn't be back in the Underworld right now. But I can't just watch you die; for now, plans have changed. We can only reclaim our bodies first and then figure things out. Jun Rui can hold out for a while longer; the sudden decline of demonic energy must be premeditated. We need to return to the human realm as soon as possible."
"Return to the human realm to fight against the Demon Realm?"
"The Demon Realm will attack the Underworld and will definitely use the human realm as a stepping stone. Don't forget that the vanished Miasma still lingers somewhere in the human realm."
I nodded; the human realm was where I had lived my entire life, and I didn't want it to become a sacrifice. "What can I do?"
"You don't need to do anything; just be a good wife to me." Jun Chong tilted his head and kissed my lips lightly, neither pressing harder nor pulling away, lingering between touch and no touch. "I do all this willingly; please don't feel guilty because it's all my choice. I've lost you once before; now that we've met again in this life, even if I'm scorned and hated by the world, I can't let you go. Anxin, please don't leave me."
"Jun Chong, I'm someone who sticks to my decisions; once I've made up my mind, I won't let go. You tempted me to fall in love with you, so you must take responsibility." I initiated a kiss on his lips, biting down hard enough to leave marks before releasing him. "You said you've lost me once; have those lost memories returned?"
"Except for yours, it seems I remember everything else. The only pain left in my mind is from losing you." Jun Chong reached out to unfasten my outer garment and cover me with a blanket. "You've been tired for a long time; get some good rest tonight! We'll talk about everything else tomorrow."
"Okay."
I nodded and nestled against his chest, slowly closing my eyes while thinking about his earlier words—what had happened at Tianshan? Why was there not a single memory of me? Including my past life—who was I then? What was my relationship with Su Yi? And what about the letter left by Grandpa? Perhaps all truths lay within the Su Family.
The Su Family—a place I must face upon returning to the human realm. What kind of battle awaited me there?
Since I hadn't really rested before, I slept soundly until noon the next day when Jun Chong woke me up for lunch. I yawned widely and stretched lazily at the table. "It's been so long since I've slept this comfortably; sleeping in your arms is truly Anxin."
"So you have slept in the arms of other men?" Jun Chong snapped at me with his chopsticks, raising an eyebrow, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
I was taken aback for a moment, then I couldn't help but chuckle, looking at him mischievously. "I've slept with quite a few men. What are you going to do about it?"
Jun Chong placed the chopsticks in my hand, holding onto them firmly, his expression cold. Without a second thought, he replied, "Kill without mercy."
"What a cruel man."
Jun Chong insisted that I eat, and I complied obediently. However, the Sealing Spell still showed no signs of disappearing. "What’s wrong with your Sealing Spell this time? It didn’t appear when you were fighting the King of Hell, but now it has shown up and won’t go away? Wasn’t it supposed to only appear when the seal was broken?"
"I don't know either." Jun Chong poured himself a cup of water, the green tea exuding a pleasant aroma. "My spiritual energy has been somewhat sluggish due to this; it seems the matter of the Phoenix Feather will have to be postponed."
"Are you in a hurry?"
"Not really." Jun Chong took a sip of tea, the sound of his long nails tapping against the cup was pleasant. "The theft of the Phoenix Feather at Jun Rui's wedding was witnessed by many reapers. If we were to mobilize the Golden Reaper now, it would be an open confrontation with the Underworld Palace, giving the Demon Realm an opportunity to exploit our weakness. So we can let this matter rest for now. I've asked Mu Yan to stay here; once the time is right, she will inform me."
I nodded. "I trust Mu Yan to handle things."
Just as we had barely eaten a few bites, there was a knock on the door. After Jun Chong responded, the door opened to reveal Lianchi.
Seeing him made my heart sink; in just one day, he looked like he had aged decades. His face was haggard, and he seemed like a completely different person from before.
As soon as he entered, he knelt on both knees facing Jun Chong. "Lord, please save her life for Jun Jun's sake."
"What happened to Jun Jun?"
When I visited her yesterday, she had spoken to me and told me not to worry. Lianchi hadn’t mentioned anything; how could everything change overnight?
Lianchi frowned tightly, biting his lip as he clenched his hands together, visibly trembling all over. "It's very bad. Her soul has suffered severe damage; I'm afraid she won't last more than a few days."
Jun Chong asked, "Isn't Demon Fetus Power just a part of her body? Why would losing it cause such severe harm?"
Lianchi shook his head. "That's easy to say, but how can two different types of spiritual energy coexist within one person? If they exist, they must merge."
Lianchi's words were clear enough. I also understood that this was Jun Jun's last life; no matter what, there would be a tragic end where her soul would scatter. She knew it too, which was why she faced it so calmly.
But Lianchi wanted her to live. Even if death was inevitable, for him, every extra day mattered. Once she was truly gone, what motivation would he have left?
Love seems simple, yet it is incredibly complex. Every man and woman who falls in love has that moment when they must let go, even if they are unwilling to do so.
Jun Chong remained silent, and Lianchi knelt without getting up. I felt helpless until Jun Chong finished the cup of water in his hand. The bottom of the cup touched the table, producing a crisp sound. "You should go to Heavenly Pool Mountain to find Hikaki; he must have a way."
"Hikaki?" Neither Lianchi nor I knew this person.
Jun Chong smiled slightly. "He's that man in white."
"His name is Hikaki?" I clicked my tongue. That man's personality was quite unpleasant, and he had such a strange name. "He might as well be called Chicken Cage."
Jun Chong sighed helplessly. "It's said that he has a lifespan equal to the heavens; no one knows his origins. Those who do usually call him Emperor. He knows Jun Jun, so finding him should be right, but he has a peculiar temper, so be careful."
"Please give me more advice, Lord."
Lianchi thanked him and left. I suddenly asked Jun Chong, "If he leaves Jun Rui's side like this, won't he be hunted down?"
"Don't worry; Jun Rui isn't that ruthless. It's just that the entanglement between him and Jun Jun also needs resolution."
