On the day I learned that Hikaki could save Jun Jun, I immediately set off with Jun Jun. The journey to Heavenly Pool Mountain was long, and Jun Chong had warned that the place was hard to find. The mountains were shrouded in mist year-round, and the dense jungle would easily confuse anyone who had never been there. After some thought, I decided to have Zhuque take us there. He also gave me a Pouch to deliver to Hikaki for emergencies.
I was very curious about what was inside the Pouch and kept asking Jun Chong, but he refused to tell me, which made me sulk all day. After dinner, I went to visit Molin as usual.
Although he had been rescued, his soul was severely damaged and had not yet recovered. Coupled with the heavy blow from Hellfire, even if Zhuque had brought him back to life, he would not survive without a Soulstone.
Shizui said that even if Molin returned to his body, he would not wake up unless his soul was repaired. The best way to mend a soul, apart from a continuous influx of immense spiritual energy, was through the presence of a loved one's soul.
However, Jian Rou was already dead. We could not harm Molin's parents for his sake, and everyone was injured with too much spiritual energy lost. Even combined, we did not have enough for a sustained input, so this matter remained stagnant, affecting Shizui as well.
"Everything has its turning point. Molin's survival is a Miracle, and Miracles bring forth new light; he will be fine," I said.
I stood before the crystal platform, looking at Molin lying on it. His face was pale and devoid of color; even his eyelashes and hair began to take on a white hue. A layer of frost seemed to cover his smooth surface. He lay there motionless, the Soulstone quietly hanging around his neck, emitting a black glow as if guarding him.
"The Soulstone is a Treasure of the Su Family; there are two pieces—one black and one white. When combined, they form a Bagua. Only such a Soulstone can exert its maximum effect," Shizui explained.
"So you're saying that if we obtain the other white Soulstone, we can repair Molin's soul?" I asked.
Shizui nodded. "But the Soulstone can only guard the soul; it serves as protection. For now, it is the best remedy for Molin. However, whether a soul can survive depends on its own willpower. If he wants to die, even if we repair his soul, he won't survive."
"He won't," I countered firmly. "Molin will definitely live on. He carries Jian Rou's belief within him; even if life is painful, he will strive to live well for both of them."
At the mention of Jian Rou, Shizui's expression changed slightly. I instinctively knew I had said something wrong; ever since Jian Rou's soul had scattered, none of us had dared to mention her name. "I'm sorry," I said.
"Why apologize to me?" Shizui smiled at me. Although his smile resembled those from before, there was no trace of joy in his eyes. "Anxin, I'm not as fragile as you think. Rou Er is in my heart; wherever I go, she follows me. So there's nothing to be pained about."
I blinked and brushed past Shizui, gently biting my lower lip. Just moments ago, I had seen him smiling while shedding tears—only he truly knew what was real and what was false in his heart.
"I'll take my leave now."
"Alright." Shizui did not move, looking down at his palm as a tear fell like a crystal droplet, one after another, continuously. His smile grew brighter, and the tears flowed more abundantly. "Why am I crying?"
Back in the room, Jun Chong was not there; he was probably discussing matters with Mu Yan. After a while, he pushed the door open and walked in. Seeing me resting my chin on my hands in a daze, he came over and tugged at my hair. "What are you dreaming about in broad daylight?"
"Jun Chong, after returning to the human realm, I want to go to work at the Su Family immediately."
Jun Chong's expression darkened as he sat down. "Why?"
I grabbed Jun Chong's hand, speaking urgently. "Because I want to obtain another Soulstone. Only this way can I save Molin. I don’t know if Su Ziqian will give it to me, but the sooner I go, the sooner I have hope."
"You can't escape the battle with the Su Family. I also have some questions for them. But now is not the time."
"When will it be the right time?" I struggled to calm down, images of Molin on the brink of death and Shizui's pain flashing through my mind. "We can wait, but Molin cannot."
"Although Soulstone is effective for Molin, it is not the fundamental solution." Jun Chong sat beside me, holding my hand in his palm while playing with the skin on the back of my hand with his other hand. "Besides, Soulstone is one of the three treasures of the Su Family; how could they easily give it to you?"
"Then how did Jun Jun get it? And why did she give it to you so casually?"
"I told you that Jun Jun took Su Yi's position in the Su Family, and back then, Su Yi was the chief disciple of the Su Family. The three treasures of the Su Family include two Soulstones along with two other Treasures, divided into four parts: two held by the head of the family and two by the chief disciple, jointly managing the Su Family. That's why she had it. However, the Blood Flame Sword disappeared with Su Yi's death and has been missing until now; yet it appeared in your body. I think the Su Family knows about this; they haven't come to take it because they want you to enter their ranks."
I gasped in horror. "They wouldn't want to kill me to extract the Blood Flame Sword, would they?"
Jun Chong reached out and flicked my forehead, causing me to grimace in pain. "That hurts."
"Who told you to fill your head with all sorts of nonsense? Because only you and Su Yi can use the Blood Flame Sword aside from its creator."
"Nonsense! My head is clearly filled with thoughts of you."
"..." It was rare for Jun Chong to be at a loss for words, which instantly lifted my spirits. "I really do have thoughts of you in my head."
"Since you've taken me here, how about we have some fun while no one is around?"
Jun Chong wasted no time, bending down to scoop me up and tossing me onto the bed. His tall frame pressed down on me, causing the mattress to sink beneath us. With both hands at work, he gave me no chance to resist as he stripped off his clothes completely. "Jun Chong, no, it's still broad daylight."
"It’s fine. Before we know it, it will be dark. The long night ahead shouldn’t go to waste."
"But we have to return to the human realm tomorrow. You said we need to conserve our energy for crossing the Ghost Path."
"Don't worry, I'm feeling great lately. You can verify that today." He took a grape from my chest into his mouth, speaking with a muffled voice that made soft sounds, sending shivers of pleasure through my body.
These past few days, his spiritual energy had recovered well, but the Sealing Spell on his left cheek still hadn’t faded. I didn’t find it unattractive; rather, it added a rare charm to his cool demeanor, especially in moments like this that made my heart race.
"But I don’t have the energy."
"You don’t need any energy." Jun Chong released his grip, propping himself up parallel to me. He cradled my face in his hands and leaned down, his voice low and husky as he brushed against my tender skin, sending delightful chills through me. "Last time you came in, you fell asleep right away. If we tire ourselves out tonight and sleep well, we’ll wake up ready to head back to the human realm tomorrow. Isn’t that better?"
"Is there anyone who—mm!"
The rest of my words were swallowed as a long-forgotten fire of excitement and desire ignited within me, spreading uncontrollably.
I felt the passion that erupted from our contact; our tight embrace made us inseparable. Yet we still craved more, wanting to meld into each other’s hearts so that we wouldn’t fear losing one another.
Each surge brought forth a unique joy shared between spouses—free from limitations and worries—creating an exhilarating sensation that was both relaxing and thrilling until we reached our peaks together. The sheer ecstasy and joy seeped into every corner of our bodies.
In the end, I had no idea how I crossed the Ghost Path back to the human realm. When I opened my eyes again, it was already dusk outside. Jun Chong was no longer in the room. I shifted my body; every part felt sore and bare as I grumbled, "Why didn’t you help me get dressed?"
"What’s the point of getting dressed after a bath? You should be like this when sleeping." Jun Chong entered with a bowl in hand and looked at me—who was trying to cover myself with the blanket after he suddenly walked in—saying, "What are you covering for? Is there any part of you I haven’t seen or touched? Don’t be shy. You’ve absorbed too much yin energy in the underworld and crossed the Ghost Path with your human body; you’ll feel uncomfortable. Drink this."
I recognized the color of what he brought; it was something I had drunk during our trip to the underworld before. Without hesitation, I took it from him and gulped it down. Wiping my mouth afterward, I said, "Aside from feeling sore all over, I don’t feel anything else wrong."
"Really?" Jun Chong showed a hint of surprise, staring at me for a long time before reaching out his index finger to touch my forehead. I felt the coolness of his fingertip, as if something was seeping into my body, causing me to shiver involuntarily. "What's wrong with you?"
"Jun Jun's spiritual energy has completely vanished from your body," Jun Chong squinted his eyes. "That's quite strange. If her energy had disappeared, you would be feeling worse after crossing the Ghost Path. But aside from some soreness, you're fine." He paused and added seriously, "I know your soreness is due to last night’s activities."
I retorted angrily, "Well, you don't know how to control yourself!"
"Control? Hmph!" Jun Chong scoffed. "If I controlled myself, wouldn't you be even lonelier? How could I let you become a resentful woman?"
He pinched my cheek and grinned mischievously. I pouted and said unhappily, "So what's wrong with me then?"
"I need to observe this. If you feel any discomfort in the near future, you must tell me."
I waved my hand to indicate I understood. "As long as you don't touch me, I'll be just fine."
"I like this jealousy," Jun Chong said as he pulled me into an embrace, grinning playfully. "Want to do it again?"
A chill ran down my spine, and I desperately tried to escape, but he held on tightly. Just as Jun Chong was about to make his move, a series of knocks came from outside the door, accompanied by a respectful voice saying, " Lord, dinner is ready. If it gets cold, it will lose its original flavor and the best tasting opportunity, so please come out to eat."
I watched as Jun Chong's face slowly darkened. I struggled to suppress my laughter; whenever he wanted to do something mischievous, he would always be interrupted unexpectedly and become very displeased, looking like he was cursing fate while preparing to punish the intruder.
I recognized that voice belonged to Taotie. He meant well, but unfortunately, someone didn’t see it that way. A punishment was inevitable; even my attempts at persuasion would be useless—if I tried to convince him, I might end up in trouble myself. So I chose not to intervene.
