The unanswered messages remained a thorn in Tan Jing's heart, prompting her investigation to quietly unfold. She transformed into a keen detective, meticulously tracking Li Feng's whereabouts, leaving no phone call or message unchecked. In the trash bags of their shared home, she discovered numerous condoms that did not belong to them.
There were also lipstick stains on their marital bed that stung her eyes with pain. Each time new evidence surfaced, it felt as if her heart was being sliced by a sharp blade, leaving her in unbearable agony. She began to question whether Li Feng's love for her over the years was merely a carefully woven lie.
Sitting on the sofa in her office, tears blurred her vision. Tan Jing didn't know how to face it all; her heart wavered between love and hate. She had once believed that as long as she worked hard, she could maintain a perfect family. But now, she started to doubt the value and meaning of it all.
“Tan Jing, are you okay?” Her friend Xiao Ling called, concern evident in her voice.

“What?” Xiao Ling's shock came through the phone. “Are you sure? Do you need me to come over?”
Tan Jing took a deep breath; she needed support but knew she had to be strong. “No, I'm fine. I just... I need time to process everything.”
She hung up and wiped away her tears. Standing up, Tan Jing's gaze fell upon a photo of Li Feng and Su Wan'er. In the picture, their smiles were radiant, resembling a couple deeply in love. A wave of indescribable bitterness surged within her, as if every smile mocked her naivety.
“How could this happen...” Tan Jing murmured to herself, gently tracing Li Feng's face in the photo with her fingers. “How could you do this to me?”
In pain and struggle, Tan Jing made a decision—she had to understand Su Wan'er and discover what made this woman better than herself. Only then could she unravel the doubts in her heart and reclaim Li Feng's love.
Days later, Tan Jing mustered the courage to approach Su Wan'er. After discovering where Su Wan'er worked through messages on Li Feng's phone, she appeared before Su Wan'er as a new colleague, smiling as she introduced herself: “Hi, I'm Tan Jing, the new marketing manager.”
A flicker of wariness and unease crossed Su Wan'er's eyes, but she quickly masked it with calmness. “Nice to meet you, Tan Jing.”
“How’s your work at the company?” Tan Jing asked tentatively, striving to keep her tone light and natural.
Su Wan'er frowned slightly, seemingly pondering how to respond: “It's going well; the project is progressing smoothly.”
Tan Jing felt a tightening in her chest; she understood that getting close to Su Wan'er would not be easy. But she also knew she couldn't give up just yet. She needed more information and evidence.
As time passed, Tan Jing gradually realized that Su Wan'er was not as simple as she had imagined. Hardworking and resilient, Su Wan'er quickly found solutions to any challenges that arose. Tan Jing felt both admiration and anxiety towards her. The reliance Su Wan'er had on Li Feng left Tan Jing feeling conflicted and uneasy—could she really compete with such a woman?
One afternoon, Tan Jing unexpectedly ran into Su Wan'er at a café. Gathering her courage, she sat across from Su Wan'er and attempted to bridge the gap between them: “I heard you've been busy with a project lately; could you tell me about it?”
Su Wan'er glanced at her with hesitation but eventually began detailing the project's specifics. Tan Jing listened intently while feeling increasingly uneasy. Her gaze occasionally drifted toward Su Wan'er's abdomen, tightening in apprehension as she sensed something unusual about Su Wan'er.
Days later, Tan Jing received shocking news from a friend—Su Wan'er was pregnant! The revelation struck her like lightning, echoing in her mind and filling her with fear and anxiety. Was this child Li Feng's? She felt utterly defeated and hopeless as if the entire world were against her.
Tan Jing knew she had to uncover the truth. She couldn't deceive herself or allow this child's existence to cast an everlasting shadow over her heart. She began reaching out to Su Wan'er more frequently in hopes of finding clues through her words and actions. Yet Su Wan'er's constant wariness left Tan Jing feeling frustrated and helpless.
During one exchange with Su Wan'er, Tan Jing attempted to probe for more information but was met with a cold rejection: “Tan Jing, I know what you're trying to do. But I won't let you succeed.”
