Having teased enough, Wu Rong decided to take a more measured approach; if he continued like this, he would truly scare her away. With that thought in mind, he leisurely got up, patted Rao Jie on the head, and said, "Silly, I'm just messing with you! Get up and make me breakfast; I'm hungry." After saying that, he left the room without a second thought.
Rao Jie, lying in bed, slowly curled up and began to roll around under the covers, eventually wrapping herself up like a cocoon. Her face was so flushed it felt like it could bleed, and even though she was buried under the blanket, her heart raced uncontrollably. She was truly driven mad by her body's reaction.
It was so hot... Clearly, Wu Rong was just joking and teasing her cruelly, but why did she feel her heart flutter when those eyes locked onto hers, surrounded by that aura? She almost lost her composure. That face of his was just too striking; it was hard for anyone to remain unaffected when faced with such beauty doing such things.
Rao Jie was not dead inside; just moments ago beneath Wu Rong's gaze, hearing those words—if it weren't for her rationality holding her back, she would have melted into a puddle of spring water. Frustrated, she repeatedly bumped her head against the pillow for a while until her brain finally calmed down and stopped wandering into wild thoughts. After all... it was just a joke.
Aside from the initial awkwardness in their interactions, the two soon returned to their normal routine. With Rao Jie’s classes over, she devoted herself entirely to preparing for her graduate entrance exams at home. Wu Rong spent most of his time at home with her when he wasn't in class.
Gradually, they both settled into studying together in Wu Rong's room. When Rao Jie reviewed her major subjects at the small desk, Wu Rong would come over to tutor her in math and English. They spent the last month before the exams peacefully and steadily.
On the morning of the first day of exams, Wu Rong personally took Rao Jie to the exam site. As she was about to get out of the car, he gently stroked her head and said softly, "Don't worry; it's okay if you don't pass. I'll help you figure out your future path later; you won't be alone in this. So go ahead and give it your all!"
It must be said that at critical moments, Wu Rong always knew how to calm Rao Jie down. The initial exam went smoothly; Rao Jie felt no obstacles or mistakes—everything seemed to go well. When she finished the last exam and sat in Wu Rong's car, she opened her phone to find numerous messages of encouragement from friends.
With a cheerful heart, Rao Jie replied one by one. Although she didn't know the results yet, she felt she had given it her all; no matter what happened now, she could accept it. At that moment, Rao Jie truly felt ready to face everything with an open heart; nothing else mattered anymore.
Wu Rong did not take Rao Jie home; instead, they went out to celebrate with a meal.
In the days that followed, there was no need for studying; all she had to do was prepare her Thesis while waiting for the results of her graduate entrance exam. However, Rao Jie was not one to push herself too hard. Having just finished the exam, she decided to give herself a break.
She wanted to go back and see her family; she really missed home. But when she texted her father, he expressed concern about her exam status and told her not to come home for the time being.
Her mother and brother had not yet given up on their plans, and they were increasingly in touch with the other family, as if everything were set in stone. So her father's message was clear: if she hadn’t figured out her thoughts on marriage, it would be best not to return home for now. After that, he sent Rao Jie some money—though it wasn’t much, just a small amount he had secretly saved from his bonuses.
