However, it was enough to bring a glimmer of warmth to Rao Jie amidst the frozen ties of family affection. Rao Jie decided to give up on going home and sought out Wei Qian for a day of relaxation.
Wei Qian was hesitant to invite her boyfriend, He Jin, fearing that Rao Jie might feel awkward upon seeing him and thinking of Bao Ming. However, after watching a movie in the afternoon, He Jin followed the ticket information Wei Qian had purchased and found them, insisting on treating both women to dinner despite Wei Qian's attempts to send him away.
Rao Jie didn't want her personal issues to cause a rift between Wei Qian and He Jin, so she naturally agreed. With some time left before dinner, the three of them decided to kill time at a milk tea shop.
Their conversation was relatively pleasant until He Jin casually asked, "By the way, are you living at Wu Xin's place now?" Given what had happened last time, even though Wei Qian said nothing, He Jin had guessed it, making his question quite normal. Rao Jie nodded in acknowledgment.
He Jin was surprised and asked, "Are you actually dating Wu Xin's brother? Otherwise, how could there be those kinds of photos?"
Rao Jie was taken aback while Wei Qian's expression changed instantly as she twisted He Jin's ear and said, "When did you become so gossipy like a woman?"
After that, she turned to Rao Jie and added, "Don't indulge his curiosity."
Rao Jie shrugged it off and replied, "It's not what you think; I'm just staying at their place. Professor Wu is helping me with math; he treats me more like a sister or a student. He's handsome and talented; there's no way he would be interested in me. It's just that he's been in a foreign country for so long that his habits are a bit different."
Hearing this, Wei Qian couldn't help but twitch her lips. She felt less optimistic about what Wu Xin had told her earlier.
He Jin relaxed and smiled, dropping the subject. However, during their conversation, it seemed like he was constantly receiving WeChat messages; his phone vibrated so much that it annoyed Wei Qian.
"What are you doing? If you have something to do, just go! You’re chatting with us while texting on your phone," Wei Qian said. She had no habit of checking her boyfriend's phone; she was the kind of woman who absolutely trusted him.
He Jin chuckled and replied, "It's nothing."
Just as Wei Qian was about to say something to He Jin, Rao Jie's phone vibrated as well.
Rao Jie smiled awkwardly, leaving Wei Qian speechless. She picked up her phone and immediately felt a bit uneasy. It was Long Yong asking her out for dinner that evening; she still owed him two meals!
Rao Jie explained to Long Yong that she was currently with Wei Qian and preparing to eat dinner out but hoped to arrange something for tomorrow instead. Long Yong quickly agreed and said he would wait for her.
Rao Jie’s heart raced a little faster; the decision she had made to reflect on things after the graduate entrance exam couldn't be suppressed any longer.
Long Yong seems to want to pursue her, but he doesn't dare to be too self-absorbed. He decides to wait and see how things go tomorrow. If it really is... she would consider it carefully. The senior is such a nice person and treats her so well; she should have an answer, right?
"Rao Jie, what are you up to? What's wrong? Your expression looks so strange," Wei Qian couldn't help but ask.
Rao Jie smiled and replied, "Nothing, someone asked me out for dinner, but I told him I'm busy today and we should reschedule."
Wei Qian raised an eyebrow and said, "From the look on your face... is it a guy?"
Rao Jie suddenly felt a bit shy and awkwardly said, "Let's talk about something else."
Wei Qian squinted her eyes but didn't press further.
However, He Jin felt that something was off and quickly asked, "I heard that you have a good relationship with a senior from the Mathematics Department?"
