"Mom, I will make you proud. I'm not an annoying, foolish child. I just haven't had access to these things before, but I promise I will study hard from now on."
I felt the person holding me stiffen for a few seconds, then gently patted my back and said softly, "My Yingying could never be a country bumpkin; it's all my fault."
I then lifted my head to look at the stunned woman over there and shouted sternly, "Tingting, apologize to your sister!"
"I won't!"
The girl huffed coldly, trying to pull me out of my mother's embrace.
Then Song Qing directly grabbed her outstretched hand and said, "Liu Tingting, have you had enough of this?"
Tingting froze at the shout, her face paling as she looked at Song Qing. "Mom, you're yelling at me for this woman! Fine, fine! You two are a family now; I'm just the extra one. If I leave, it’ll save you the trouble of looking at me here!"
With that, the girl pushed everyone away and ran out.
"Tingting!"
I looked at my mother, who was holding me with a worried expression, and gently said,
"It's okay, Mom. You should go comfort my sister. I can handle this myself."
She glanced at me and then at the outside before looking back at me with an apologetic face.
"I'm sorry, Yingying. Your sister is still young, and I'm worried she might do something impulsive."
With that, the woman released me and hurried outside.
I noticed the crowd around me whispering and casting curious glances. This was supposed to be my recognition banquet, yet I felt like a clown being discussed by everyone.
But as I caught sight of my father in the corner, his gaze filled with complex emotions, I wondered if I had truly lost this time.
"Are you really okay?"
I turned to see Sun Fan standing beside me, concern etched on his face.
"What could possibly be wrong with me?"
I rolled my eyes at him and then ignored the people around as I walked toward the man in the corner.
"Dad, I'm sorry. If it weren't for my argument with my sister, we wouldn't be in this situation."
He looked at me with a complex expression, then sighed and ruffled my hair.
"You can't blame yourself; it's all my fault and your mother's for spoiling her too much over the years, letting her run wild."
That evening, I returned to the Liu Residence with Liu's Father. After dinner, as the time grew later, I noticed there was no sign of movement at the door.
"You don't need to wait for them anymore, Yingying. You should go to bed early."
"Okay, Dad."
I watched the atmosphere grow increasingly tense, a hint of amusement flickering in my eyes.
"Ah!"
"What's wrong, Yingying?"
I saw someone rush into his arms.
"Dad, Daddy, there's a snake in my room!"
Liu's Father's face turned increasingly grim as he looked at the snake that the nanny had caught.
"Who did this?!"
I sat on the sofa with Liu's Father, watching the staff called over to the Liu Residence.
"Don't pretend you don't know, Uncle Li. Check the surveillance! I can't keep someone with such ulterior motives in my family. If you admit it now, I might give you a chance to explain. But if I find out later, don’t blame me for being ruthless."
As soon as Liu's Father's words fell, a pale-faced maid suddenly collapsed to her knees.
"Boss, I was forced!" she stammered.
Seeing her struggle to articulate her thoughts, I rushed in front of her, feigning fear as if I were being cornered.
"Why do you want to harm me?"
With tears welling in my eyes, I turned to Liu's Father.
"Dad, if you don't welcome me, I can leave right now."
Seeing my genuine intent to leave, Liu's Father immediately stopped me.
"Don't worry, Dad will definitely give you an explanation."
He then shot a cold glance at the kneeling maid. "Stop stuttering and just say what you need to say."
"It's Miss Tingting," she finally admitted.
The nanny had broken the pot and given up.
"It's all Miss Tingting's fault for making me do this. I really had no choice. My son is about to undergo surgery, and I can't afford to lose this job. Miss Tingting said that if I didn't do it, she would fire me and claim that I stole her things, making me pay a hefty fine."
"Shut up! Drag this woman out who is spouting nonsense and trying to harm the young lady. We the Liu Family cannot afford such people."
"Yes, boss."
Watching the woman being dragged out, shouting and struggling, the coldness in my eyes deepened.
This was indeed his true nature.
However, I quickly regained my composure and returned to my frightened demeanor.
"Yingying, it's all Daddy's fault. I didn't handle things well and scared you. But Tingting is a good girl; she would never do something like this. It must be that the nanny tried to sow discord between you sisters. Still, Tingting did go a bit too far this time. When she comes back, I'll make sure she apologizes to you."
