He saw the edge of the city engulfed in smoke and fire, the years of war had turned the land into a wasteland, countless lives ruthlessly destroyed. War was supposed to be brief and intense, but now it had turned into a prolonged struggle, with countless soldiers racing against time in the trenches, while commanders calculated the possibilities of victory and defeat behind the scenes. 0

After numerous battles and due to casualties and resource shortages, what was supposed to be a short war gradually evolved into a protracted conflict. Both sides no longer engaged in large-scale tactical expansions, but instead became locked in a stalemate of constant attrition of manpower and resources. Although both sides knew that continuing would only bring more pain and disaster, neither was willing to step back first, so the war remained deadlocked, like an endless nightmare. 0

Neil carefully records everything he observes, although as an observer, he should not comment on the events he observes. However, he feels extremely uncomfortable about this crazy war. Is this part of the Multiverse? A huge puzzle made up of countless tragedies and pains? 0

Neil adjusts the analysis depth of the observation device to the highest, hoping to have a more comprehensive understanding of this meaningless war. In the trenches, soldiers wear tattered uniforms, covered in mud, relying only on sandbags and barbed wire as temporary cover. There is no vitality on their faces, hollow-eyed, like the walking dead. Young and old, from different regions and cultures, they have all become victims of this war. They face not only the enemy's artillery but also hunger, disease, and psychological breakdown. 0

Neil's observation device then turned the screen to the command post, where the situation was equally painful. Senior commanders had tense faces, staring at maps and tactical analysis reports without looking away. What kind of calculations were they making? The cost of continuing the battle, or the consequences of surrender? However hard they tried to find a solution, the results always seemed disappointing. Even occasional victories couldn't change the overall course of the war. The war had become a bottomless pit, consuming countless lives and resources. 0

At this moment, one side finally made an unbelievable decision—surrender. The news spread quietly within the army until the soldiers received the official order, and they still felt like it was all a dream. But when they actually dropped their weapons, left the trenches where they had fought for years, and saw the opposing soldiers, equally weary and weathered, everyone understood that the endless disaster had finally come to an end. 0

The end of the war became a prelude to a false peace. After the surrender of one side, instead of bringing the expected tranquility, it triggered a series of new social problems. 0

First, nationalist fervor surged in various places. People who had once been in the midst of war sought a sense of belonging and found strength in it. However, this strength was not constructive, but rather filled with exclusivity and opposition. Various small countries, regions, and ethnic groups began to increasingly defend their own interests, often by excluding "others." 0

Next, the post-war economic depression plunged a large population into poverty and unemployment. Factories were bombed, infrastructure was on the verge of collapse, and even though the war had stopped, people's lives could not return to normal. Unemployment rates soared, many families fell apart, and as a result, the crime rate also increased. The government, burdened by the costs of war, was unable to effectively address these issues. 0

Furthermore, the pressure faced by the defeated countries was enormous. In addition to paying high reparations, which further strained their treasuries, they also had to accept a series of harsh conditions, including ceding land and relinquishing natural resources. These severely weakened the national power and confidence of the defeated countries, making it nearly impossible for them to recover on their own. 0

Neil looked at all this, feeling a mix of emotions. He saw countless heartbreaking cycles in the history of the universe: wars ending, bringing brief relief, only to soon give birth to new conflicts due to various social contradictions and problems. It was like an endless tragedy, constantly playing out on the stage. 0

All of this made Neil understand the hidden goal of The organization of the Eyes of the Philosopher more deeply: not only to observe the Multiverse, but also to seek a way to break this tragic cycle. However, he also realized that this was by no means an overnight goal. It required more understanding, more observation, and deeper insights into human nature and society. 0

Neil took a deep breath, and the observation device in his hand gradually cooled down, becoming icy cold, as if it too was aware of the importance of this observation. He glanced at the data on the screen, filled with questions and confusion, but also a hint of satisfaction - he felt that he had unearthed the deep turmoil and post-war difficulties of this other universe's society, seemingly touching the core of this world. 0

He placed his hand on the exit button of the Observation deck, a hint of anticipation flashing through his mind, hoping that after this assessment, he could have a deep discussion with his mentor Erin about his discoveries. Perhaps he would receive praise from Erin, and maybe even a promotion as a result. His finger was about to press down. 0

Suddenly, a cold robotic voice came from the speakers outside the observation deck. "Observer Neil, your mission is not yet complete. You must find the catalyst of this war, otherwise the assessment will not be considered complete." 0

Neil's hand instantly stopped in mid-air, as if frozen. His mood sank as well. He had thought he had done well enough, but this indifferent machine voice clearly told him that it was far from enough. 0

His hand slowly moved away from the exit button and returned to the control lever of the observation device. He adjusted his posture to ensure that he could maintain concentration for a longer period of time. He knew very well that the next task would be even more challenging than before. 0
