"Is that room behind the counter a storage room? Does it have any windows?" As several Zombies stumbled toward the door, Jiang He knew there was no hiding in the store and had to place her hopes on the place where Song Yao had previously taken refuge. 0

"There’s a small window, but it has security bars outside," Song Yao replied quietly, her right hand reaching behind her waist to grip the rolling pin. 0

"Calm down, sister," Jiang He quickly pressed down on Song Yao, fearing she might impulsively rush out. 0

Song Yao shot a glare at Jiang He, her doll-like face showing signs of tension. "You need to think of something!" 0

Jiang He gritted her teeth and said, "First, block the door!" With that, she sprang up and rushed toward the store entrance, pulling over a shelf to block it. Through the gap, they could see that the Zombies had clearly noticed the people inside the convenience store. One by one, they opened their blood-stained mouths and reached out their arms to lunge forward! 0

Seeing this, Song Yao quickly got up to help. The two piled all the movable items in the store against the entrance, barely managing to block the loose glass door. 0

However, their actions had already attracted more Zombies from the street. More and more began to crowd around, pressing against the glass door. The stacked metal shelves creaked under the immense force from outside, swaying dangerously. 0

"What do we do? What do we do?" Song Yao panicked, grabbing Jiang He's arm and bombarding her with questions. 0

Jiang He felt her hair stand on end as she watched the glass door nearly give way. Through the gap, they could already hear the hoarse growls of the Horde of Zombies. 0

"Into the back room! Hurry!" Jiang He grabbed Song Yao and ran toward the area behind the Cash Register. The small room behind it wasn’t a storage area; it was just a break room for night shift workers, containing only a bunk bed and a water dispenser. What frustrated Jiang He most was that there was no door! 0

"Damn it!" Jiang He cursed under her breath as she pulled over a cart to block the entrance and turned back to ask, "What about the window?" 0

"Up there..." 0

Jiang He looked up and felt a chill run down her spine. The window was an old aluminum sliding window—quite large—but outside were steel bars two fingers wide. She glanced around but found no useful tools at hand. 0

Suddenly, there was a loud crash of shattering glass. 0

Jiang He peeked out and saw that one side of the glass door had been shattered by the swarm of Zombies outside. One Zombie was howling as it tried to squeeze in, its body torn and bleeding from the shards of glass, with a thigh bone exposed to the air. 0

Jiang He moved the water dispenser under the window, climbed on top of it, and forcefully pulled open the sliding window. Turning back, he shouted at Song Yao, who was trembling in place, "What are you dawdling for? Get up here!" 0

"Ah! Oh!" Song Yao snapped back to reality, obediently huddling against the wall. He glanced at the windowsill and exclaimed, "It's too high! I can't get up!" 0

The windowsill was only about one and a half meters off the ground, and Song Yao was around one meter sixty tall—just high enough to peek over the sill. However, the white plaster wall was bare and offered no grip. 0

"Step! Up!" The sound of shattering glass and metal scraping from outside grew louder, and Jiang He felt his head about to explode. Without hesitation, he dropped to the ground. 0

In a dire situation, Song Yao couldn't afford to think twice. He stepped onto Jiang He's back, reached out through the window to grab the railing, and jumped up with all his might. Just as Song Yao climbed onto the windowsill, the store door finally gave way completely. The shelves and debris were knocked over by the Horde of Zombies, crashing down in a cacophony. 0

"Hurry!" Song Yao shouted! 0

Jiang He's mind went blank as he took a few running steps and leaped for the railing. His chest slammed heavily against the edge of the windowsill, nearly causing him to lose his breath and fall back! 0

Fortunately, Song Yao managed to grab his arm just in time, pulling him up with all his strength! 0

Before Jiang He could fully pull his legs inside, Zombies surged in from outside! The once peaceful night was now filled with their howls and roars. Jiang He scrambled inside, pushing Song Yao into the protective railing before slamming the sliding window shut with all his might! 0

"Ugh... that was close..." Jiang He exhaled deeply, collapsing against the railing. 0

"That was too dangerous! Good thing you thought to hide here... you saved my life," Song Yao said, equally shaken, his chest heaving heavily as he gasped for air. 0

"I used to sneak behind railings to play when I was little; I almost got beaten to death by my parents... I never expected it would become a lifesaver now," Jiang He chuckled self-deprecatingly as he looked at the rotting arms reaching through the glass window, still feeling a twinge of fear. 0

The security railing was an old-fashioned box-shaped steel crossbar design. Luckily, neither Jiang He nor Song Yao were heavyset; they could barely squeeze into it. However, it was quite cramped as they twisted their bodies to fit inside. 0

Behind the window was a narrow alley, where sewage flowed freely and garbage was strewn everywhere, but at that moment, it was eerily empty. 0

"Hurry up and find a way to get this fence open. If those Zombies come into the alley too, we're done for," Jiang He said, watching as those skeletal hands banged against the glass, feeling an overwhelming sense of dread. 0

Song Yao grabbed the gaps in the railing with both hands and tried to shake her body. The railing, which held two people, was clearly struggling under the weight; with just a little movement from Song Yao, it creaked ominously. Seeing this, Jiang He quickly followed suit, shaking vigorously. Before long, the screws above their heads began to loosen, and chunks of wall crumbled down onto them. 0

"Do you really call them Zombies?" Song Yao asked, her short hair sticking to her face with sweat as she and Jiang He awkwardly swayed in the cramped enclosure. 0

"Huh?" Jiang He paused mid-shake at her question. "What? Are you calling them your husband?" 0

"Pfft!" Song Yao spat back at him in annoyance, focusing on shaking the railing and ignoring him. 0

Their efforts were not in vain; together they weighed around two hundred pounds and after shaking for a while, they finally made some progress. A series of light sounds echoed as the expansion screws were pried loose. 0

"Put in more effort!" Jiang He exclaimed joyfully, adjusting his position to push harder, his feet planted firmly on the windowsill as he kicked outward with all his might! 0

Finally, the old railing could no longer withstand their relentless shaking. With a loud crash, it broke free from the wall. The two of them were caught off guard by the sudden collapse and tumbled down into the filthy water of the alley below. 0

"Ugh, how disgusting," Song Yao groaned as she fell into the sewage pit, splashed all over her face. 0

"We'll clean up later!" Jiang He said nervously. 0
