Rao Jie didn't hesitate and took a bite.
“How is it?” Long Yong asked eagerly.
Suddenly, Rao Jie burst into laughter.
“Is it… not good?” Long Yong felt a wave of anxiety wash over him at her laughter, and he nervously took a small scoop with his spoon to taste it himself.
As he ate, Long Yong's expression gradually changed; the smile on his face slowly widened until he was laughing along with Rao Jie.
“Hahaha, it's so sweet! Why? Where did I go wrong? How can it be this sweet?”
Rao Jie continued to laugh and eat, finding that even though it was very sweet, it was still palatable.
“It’s probably because you didn’t get the proportions right when making the cheese filling or maybe added the wrong ingredients. But aside from being overly sweet, it’s quite good—much better than the bitter one I made initially. At least this counts as a dessert.”
Long Yong doubled over with laughter but seeing Rao Jie still eating bite after bite, he quickly reached out to stop her. “Forget it, it’s too sweet; you shouldn’t eat anymore.”
But Rao Jie firmly continued, “No way! Senior specially brought me here to eat something he made himself; how can I not finish it? Didn’t you also finish my failed attempts before? But… it really is very sweet; Senior, I need black coffee!”
Long Yong looked at Rao Jie tenderly for a moment before silently going to get her some coffee.
After finishing the last bite, Rao Jie smiled and said to Long Yong, “Thank you for the treat, Senior.”
Just as she finished speaking, Long Yong suddenly fixed his gaze on her and said, “I will do better next time; I’ll make something that will earn your praise.”
Rao Jie was taken aback.
Even though there was a cooking counter between them, Long Yong leaned slightly forward, wanting to get closer to her.
“Rao Jie, I want to keep trying to do my best. Will you help me taste my creations forever?”
Rao Jie’s heart skipped a beat—was this… a confession?
She looked at Long Yong with a hint of panic in her expression.
But Long Yong boldly reached out and held her hand that was resting on the counter. Rao Jie instinctively tried to pull back in surprise, but Long Yong held on tightly.
“What I said today at the mall… I hope it comes true.”
Rao Jie stood there in a daze as Long Yong spoke—those were the words he had used to brush off Bao Ming, claiming she was his girlfriend.
“Senior…” Rao Jie’s voice trembled with nervousness; she felt as if she could hardly breathe.
It was anxiety, fear, and… a desire to escape…
But why?
She clearly had a premonition and had made various assumptions. Yet, when her senior explained it to her, she wanted to stop him, hoping he wouldn’t continue, wishing she hadn’t heard anything at all. The impulse in her heart was strong, almost wanting to bury her head in the sand. But faced with Long Yong's gentle and serious expression, she couldn’t back down.
“So, Rao Jie… I like you. Can I pursue you? I want you to be my girlfriend. A serious kind of relationship.”
Rao Jie’s heart skipped a beat.
She knew it was coming, yet there was still that overwhelming feeling of helplessness at hearing it out loud. Rao Jie bit her lip, trying to force herself to respond, but her mind felt like it had frozen, and she blurted out a question without thinking.
“Why me? You’re so outstanding; there should be many more excellent girls around you. I’m just ordinary, and… we’ve only known each other for a short time.”
