Rao Jie felt inexplicably irritated and wanted to push Wu Rong away. "Professor Wu, who I go out to eat with or what happens between us seems to have nothing to do with you, right?"
Wu Rong's breath caught in his throat as he looked at Rao Jie, his gaze sharp enough to pierce like ice. "Did you agree to him? Or are you planning to?"
Rao Jie was a bit flustered under Wu Rong's fierce stare, but instinctively found herself unable to resist his questioning. "I... I'm still considering it!"
"Are you planning to move out?" Wu Rong wanted to ask but hesitated, his heart racing. The fearless Wu Rong, who had never been afraid of anything, now felt a twinge of fear. What if Rao Jie said she wanted to move out, that she wanted to live with Long Yong because she had feelings for him? How could he calm his emotions then?
Inside, Wu Rong felt like a volcano on the verge of eruption, but facing such a situation for the first time left him unsure of what to do.
Rao Jie cautiously observed Wu Rong, wondering what was wrong with him. However, recalling some previous events made her curious. "Professor Wu, it seems like you dislike Senior Long?"
Wu Rong replied bluntly, "Yes, I really dislike him!"
Rao Jie hadn't expected such a direct response and asked in confusion, "Why? Isn't he the best graduate student in the Mathematics Department? Shouldn't he be considered a prized pupil?"
Suddenly feeling jealous, Wu Rong desperately tried to prove himself. "No matter how good he is, can he be better than me?"
Rao Jie responded, "…Since he doesn't threaten you, why do you dislike him so much? He's a good person and has helped me a lot."
Wu Rong paused abruptly, his beautiful eyes fixed intently on Rao Jie as if trying to see into her soul through her dark pupils.
He suddenly scoffed. "You really don't know why I dislike him?"
Rao Jie shook her head honestly. "I don't."
Wu Rong felt unexpectedly hurt; he took a step back, his gaze toward Rao Jie tinged with complaint. "Rao Jie, you're really heartless!"
Being called heartless for the first time made Rao Jie feel as if she had been pricked by something sharp; it was indeed baffling!
As Rao Jie wore a puzzled expression, Wu Rong stubbornly refused to say more or acknowledge her further. He tossed aside Rao Jie's phone and turned to leave.
Instead of going back to his room, he grabbed his car keys and rushed out.
Rao Jie stood there dumbfounded in the restaurant, unsure of how to react.
At that moment, Long Yong sent another message—gentle and considerate as always—with an interesting topic. However, Rao Jie lacked the mood to reply and could only excuse herself by saying she was tired and wanted to rest.
After putting down her phone, Rao Jie pondered while tidying up the kitchen. She had prepared food waiting for her attention, but now that it was ready, the person she expected had run off, leaving her feeling unproductive.
What happened to Wu Rong? What does she know or not know that made her so indifferent?
As she pondered, Rao Jie suddenly had a strange thought. After considering it, she couldn't help but laugh and shook her head, murmuring, "How is that possible?"
That night, Wu Rong returned home at an unknown time, but for several days afterward, he didn't show Rao Jie any kindness. Whenever Rao Jie tried to talk to him to ease the tension, Wu Rong would always avoid her, acting as if he didn't want to engage with her at all. It felt as though Rao Jie had truly done something wrong to him, something that hurt him deeply, and she just couldn't understand why.
