"That's right," Jiang He said. "Open the door, I need to ask you some questions."
Fu Qianwei listened to Jiang He's words, but she couldn't associate his appearance with that of a police officer. Compared to the idea of him being a police officer, Fu Qianwei felt that this person outside was more like a murderer. Did this murderer kill her classmate He Hui Juan and now come to kill her too?
"How do I know you're a police officer?" Fu Qianwei replied.
Jiang He quickly spoke up, "Your name is Fu Qianwei, your father's name is Fu Leshui, and your mother's name is Deng Qianyan. Your father works as a laborer in an oil company, while your mother is a housewife. Your hometown is in Qingcheng. You came to Dragon City to attend Fourth High School, then you got into Long City Transportation College to study marketing, and now you work as a planner. You like sweet-smiling boys, and you don't like cats..."
"How do you know all this?" Fu Qianwei realized that Jiang He had not missed a single detail.
This information was naturally gathered from Fu Qianwei's records.
"I am a police officer; all of this is in your file. Now can you let me in?" Jiang He asked.
Fu Qianwei's face flushed as she opened the door. "So the records are that detailed? But now I feel like I might have a bit of a crush on older men..."
Fu Qianwei didn't even realize that she had just revealed her personal information to him.
Jiang He got straight to the point. "I'm here regarding the case of He Hui Juan. We found out that two and a half months ago, you actively organized a class reunion. However, I learned that you weren't a class officer in high school; usually, such events are organized by class officers. Why were you so enthusiastic?"
Fu Qianwei remained silent for a moment before speaking as if she had made a significant decision. "I’m just an employee at a company now, responsible for product promotion and such. I happened to know that my former high school classmate Feng Bin runs an internet company, so naturally, I wanted to build a good relationship with him. Then I met his wife, who told me that Feng Bin had always wanted to have a reunion with our high school classmates."
She scratched her neck and continued, "People are like that; once they have money and power, they want their old classmates to see how well they're doing. If I could become close friends with his wife, it would save me years of hard work. So, to flatter Hannah, I agreed and organized the reunion."
"Were you aware if Feng Bin wanted to organize it during the reunion?" Jiang He looked at Fu Qianwei.
"No," Fu Qianwei replied.
At the class reunion, there was Feng Bin, who had achieved success in his career; He Hui Juan, who needed money; and Summit, the wealthy driver.
Jiang He suddenly connected some dots in his mind.
"Thank you." Jiang He rushed out the door.
Fu Qianwei, sitting on the sofa, stared at the door that was shaking violently. She had expected the police officer to ask her a multitude of questions like in a TV drama, and she might even have to ask her boss for leave. But this officer only asked her one question, and it didn't even take five minutes.
Jiang He finally understood the truth of the matter; in his mind, the probability was now close to certainty.
The summer morning felt vibrant, with the sound of cicadas drowning out the noise of traffic. Everything seemed so beautiful, at least for some people.
A man and a woman woke from their slumber. The light yellow curtains blocked the sunlight, creating a perfectly balanced ambiance in the room, with light and shadow intertwining like a modern painting. The woman rested her head on the man's broad chest, gently exploring with one hand. The man held her close, resting his chin on her head.
"We can finally be together," the woman said with affection in her eyes, a joyful expression on her face.
"Is everything ours now?" he asked, lightly caressing her skin, his voice tinged with excitement.
"I never expected he would..."
Before she could finish her sentence, the woman suddenly shivered in fear. She had spotted someone sitting in a chair in the corner of the room, shrouded in shadows where the light had yet to reach. The figure sat quietly with hands resting on his legs, watching the two on the bed. It was truly terrifying to wake up one morning and find someone in your bedroom who had likely been observing you for a long time.
As they both opened their mouths to scream, the figure in the shadows finally revealed his true identity.
“Officer Jiang? Why are you in our bedroom?” Hannah asked. “How did you get in? If you don’t leave right now, I’ll report you for trespassing.”
Jiang He glanced at her, sitting up straight. “The lock on your front door is difficult to open, but the garage door is easy. That’s a flaw in your home security. If someone were to break in, knowing this, I’d say there’s a seventy percent chance your house would be robbed.”
“What the hell do you want!” Summit couldn’t contain his anger. “What do you keep coming here for? I’ll give you one minute to get out of this house, or I swear, no matter if you’re a cop or whatever, I’ll make sure you won’t be recognized by your own mother.”
Jiang He stood up, looking at the two of them calmly. “If you listen to what I have to say, I have a seventy percent chance of believing that you won’t hit me today.”
With that, Jiang He sat back down in the chair.
“I’m going to hit you right now,” Summit said as he rolled off the bed.
But Hannah stopped Summit, lying sideways on the bed. “Just watch.”
Jiang He nodded and continued, “Three months ago, Li Weiyi got into debt for one hundred thirty thousand due to his own mistakes. Two months ago, Fu Qianwei organized a class reunion, during which He Hui Juan and Feng Bin began an affair. That night, fifty thousand yuan was transferred into He Hui Juan’s account. A month later, another thirty thousand yuan was deposited into her account. Then five days ago, Feng Bin killed He Hui Juan.”
“So what does this have to do with me?” Hannah looked at Jiang He with an innocent expression.
Jiang He replied seriously, “The person who funded this is you. Earlier today, I learned that the reunion was held at your suggestion. Now I’m eighty percent sure that you hired He Hui Juan to deliberately seduce your husband Feng Bin, so that you could marry this man behind your back while having full control over the company’s assets.”
Pointing at Summit, Jiang He continued, “His monthly salary is six thousand, yet he can afford a hundred thousand yuan watch and wears designer clothes. That doesn’t fit the profile of a driver. So I have sixty percent confidence that while being a driver, he might also be playing other roles. And now I understand; you are what people commonly refer to as a kept man.”
“Who are you calling a kept man?” Summit shouted.
With that, Summit charged towards Jiang He.
Jiang He continued, "When you were at the police station, you opened your handbag, and I saw that the cosmetics inside were exactly the same as those I found at He Hui Juan's house. If her computer and mouse keyboard were purchased a long time ago, then the cosmetics we saw were bought less than three months ago."
Summit had already walked up to Jiang He.
Jiang He looked up at the towering Summit, who was a head taller and had muscles that seemed to dwarf his own. There was no way for Jiang He to escape from this position; he was about to take a serious beating.
"What do you want to die?" Summit asked.
Jiang He raised a finger. "Give me a minute. At that time, He Hui Juan was saving money, so I doubt she would have spent six thousand yuan on cosmetics. I have a sixty percent probability that this set of cosmetics was a gift from you to He Hui Juan, am I right?"
"Do you have any evidence?" Hannah sat up.
"Absolutely none," Jiang He replied. "The key figures are all dead. This is merely an analysis based on current information, indicating the most likely probability. Moreover, according to current laws, even if you did persuade He Hui Juan to do this, there’s nothing the law can do to you; it would only lead to your moral condemnation."
Jiang He glanced at Summit again and added, "However, I believe this is all a personal choice. But your choice indirectly led Feng Bin to commit murder, resulting in the deaths of Li Weiyi and his entire family. I just want to know the truth—did you really do this?"
Hannah remained silent.
Summit then spoke up, "Are you done?"
Jiang He nodded.
"Then I can make my move." With that, Summit grabbed Jiang He's collar and prepared to throw a punch.
"I bet there's a seventy percent chance you won't hit me," Jiang He said seriously, looking directly at Summit.
"You're mistaken," Summit said with a smile.
Just as Summit finished speaking, the sound of someone ringing the doorbell echoed from outside. Jiang He picked up his phone from the table nearby. "My phone has been dialing for about twenty minutes since we started talking. The police set out some time ago and have just arrived at your doorstep."
Hannah frowned and replied, "What evidence do you have? I could accuse you of trespassing. Just wait until I have you stripped and thrown out."
Jiang He shook his head. "I have a ninety percent chance of believing that they are here to take me back. Right now, I have more suspicions than you do."
With that, Jiang He hung up the phone.
He patted Summit's hand. "I'm going to open the door now. If you try to make a move, I'll inform you that assaulting a police officer can lead to the death penalty. So, do you still want to act?"
Summit released his grip.
Jiang He stepped out of the bedroom, leaving two people in the room staring at each other.
