By the time he read the following letters, Old Shao's expression had turned quite grim. He finally understood why Sister Ma had spoken to him in such a manner. The contents of these letters had completely crossed the boundaries of mere admiration, sending chills down his spine.
"Zhu Liang, after work today, I secretly came to the Sponge Factory and hid from a distance, quietly watching you. You are still as beautiful as you were in middle school, truly stunning, like an apple that makes one unable to resist wanting to kiss your cheek."
"Hehe, you received the roses I secretly placed in your locker, right? Don't ask how I know your changing room password; I just do. I know everything about you. You are 1.65 meters tall, twenty years and three months old, with measurements of 91/70/100. Your period comes on the twenty-eighth of every month and leaves on the fifth."
Old Shao passed the letter to the person behind him and continued reading the rest.
"Why do you never respond to me? Is it that you don't like chatting this way? Hehe, then you can add me on QQ! My QQ level is already a crown, and my name is Ainien. My QQ number is 78170809. I'm waiting for you to add me; you must add me!"
"I've waited for you for so long. Why haven't you added my QQ number? I love you so much and would do anything for you. I love you so deeply; I've collected your cut hair, tissues you've used, even sanitary pads you've thrown away. I like you so much, but why do you ignore me?"
"I understand now! You must be testing me. Don't worry; I will persevere. Even if you always avoid me and pretend not to notice me, I know in your heart you've already agreed to me, right? You're testing my true feelings. Rest assured, I will only love you in this lifetime."
"You can't escape."
The last letter contained only these five short words, yet their impact was immense. After reading them, Old Shao was covered in goosebumps. The others nearby had also read through the stack of love letters and felt a chill run down their spines.
Yuan Jun cursed, "This is too twisted! This isn't pursuit; it's harassment!"
Sister Ma leaned against the bed and said to everyone, "Now do you understand why I called you here? I felt something was off about this girl before; she seemed shy and like she had someone in her life. But I never expected she was being harassed by a pervert! I think Zhu Liang is the one who got her into this mess! You all need to catch him!"
Old Shao looked at Sister Ma and then at the other two. "Has she never mentioned this to you?"
Sister Ma grasped the edge of the bed and replied, "No, this girl came from the countryside; she's usually shy and doesn't like talking to people. I've seen her sneak out a few times at night, but it can't be with this pervert, right? If I'd known about this earlier, I'd have chased that scoundrel away with a broom."
Old Shao gathered the letters and turned to Guan Deng. "The letter has her QQ number; check it out. We must find this person."
Guan Deng nodded and sat outside in the corridor, typing rapidly on his keyboard.
Old Shao then asked Sister Ma, "When she went out, didn’t any of you go take a look?"
Sister Ma said, "Hey, you followed me even when I went to the restroom? I only just figured it out. You young girl, in your twenties, how could you have that much to drink? You must be seeing someone. Did you all read that last letter? It definitely sounds like a threat."
"It shouldn't be too likely," Xu Yiman replied at that moment. "From these letters, this seems to be a classic case of Obsessive Love Disorder. Such disorders can sometimes involve paraphilia, like collecting the other person's hair, clothes, or even their dirty belongings. However, cases of Obsessive Love Disorder leading to murder are quite rare; at least, I've never encountered one."
"What is Obsessive Love Disorder?" Yuan Jun scratched his head and asked.
Xu Yiman looked around at everyone and began to explain, "Obsessive Love Disorder is a type of mental illness, specifically a form of schizophrenia. Of course, its aggression is relatively low; however, for those entangled with such individuals, it can be unbearable. People suffering from this disorder are usually very introverted in real life and struggle to socialize normally."
"In their interactions with others, they may seem somewhat shy and awkward without any major issues. But for certain individuals, they can develop an intense hatred. Patients have a profound misunderstanding of love; they believe that someone or some people are deeply infatuated with them, leading them to obsessively pursue that person even when the other party clearly shows rejection or disgust."
Xu Yiman pointed at the love letter in Old Shao's hand and said, "Just like what Yang Zhi Kui wrote; he thinks Zhu Liang is testing his true feelings. This behavior not only won't make the other person give up but might provoke even crazier actions from them. It's a mental illness where reasoning doesn't help; medication and psychological therapy are necessary."
With a sigh, Xu Yiman continued, "Although it's perverse, it's not necessarily a subjective perversion on the part of the other person. It's like having a cold and being unable to stop sneezing; it's a disease that the patient cannot control. In fact, most people occasionally experience such delusions—for example, thinking they'll pass an exam without studying or believing that someone is secretly in love with them."
"It seems no one has taken Yang Zhi Kui for treatment," Xu Yiman concluded. "He should be sent to a psychiatric hospital; eventually, he will get better."
Old Shao nodded in agreement. "Indeed, this world is full of wonders. Some people may not be subjectively wrong but still make mistakes. If someone has a mental illness, they should go to a psychiatric hospital; if not, then they should be taken to the police station. I think we need to meet Yang Zhi Kui."
Jiang He added, "From the letters, it appears that Yang Zhi Kui has stalked Zhu Liang multiple times and managed to collect such private information about him; he might know something important."
The case was becoming increasingly convoluted with the introduction of this new character named Yang Zhi Kui who had repeatedly stalked Zhu Liang. Why did Zhu Liang leave the Sponge Factory that night? Was he abducted by the murderer inside the Sponge Factory or did he leave on his own?
Guan Deng stood up from the hallway and tugged at Jiang He's arm.
Jiang He turned around and saw Guan Deng's computer screen displaying an identification card belonging to none other than Yang Zhi Kui.
Jiang He swiped his hand across the screen and discovered that Guan Deng had already searched for detailed information about Yang Zhi Kui.
It turned out that Yang Zhi Kui and Zhu Liang were from the same village. After finishing middle school in their village, they both came to Dragon City to work. Like Zhu Liang, Yang Zhi Kui had done various jobs in Dragon City until recently when he finally found a mentor and started learning car repair at a privately-owned shop. He had just graduated from his apprenticeship.
This repair shop was just a few streets away and would take about an hour to walk there; it was called Old Wang's Auto Repair Shop. From its name, it sounded like a place for fixing bicycles rather than cars. The pay there wasn't high—only about a thousand yuan—and the business seemed lackluster and quiet.
"Jiang He," said to Shao the Elder, "we've found Yang Zhi Kui."
Several people turned their heads to look, and on the computer screen was a photo of a man.
From the photo, the boy appeared dark-skinned, clearly someone who worked often under the sun. His arms looked muscular, and his physique was decent. He was smiling, showing off his white teeth. He looked like an ordinary person; it was hard to believe he could be involved in such activities.
"We need to check this out," Old Shao said, then turned to Sister Ma. "Sister Ma, your lead is incredibly useful. If you have any similar information, please make sure to inform Director Wang."
Sister Ma maintained a serious expression, but a smile still crept onto her face. "Yes, helping the police is what we should do."
As they were leaving, Old Shao had Director Wang take everyone on a tour of the Sponge Factory. The sponges came in various colors and shapes, creating a dazzling array of options, each with different future uses. Some were for sofa stuffing, others for cleaning tools, and some were made into toys.
Due to the vast variety, there would inevitably be a lot of waste material, which was carelessly piled outside for anyone to take. Moreover, there were no security guards in the Sponge Factory since there wasn't anything valuable inside. Large machines couldn't be moved, and how much sponge could one really steal? Without any profit to be made, thieves generally wouldn't come here.
Thus, anyone could potentially take sponges from here without being noticed.
After bidding farewell to Director Wang, Old Shao checked his watch; it was around ten-thirty.
"Let's go to the auto repair shop," Shao the Elder said.
At eleven o'clock, the car stopped in front of Old Wang's Auto Repair Shop. The shop's roll-up door was half down, with light shining through from underneath, indicating that someone was still inside.
Yuan Jun approached and knocked on the door loudly.
"Who is it?" a voice called from inside. "The master has gone home; come back tomorrow."
"Police," Yuan Jun shouted back.
"Police?" The person inside seemed skeptical.
Yuan Jun grabbed the handle of the roll-up door and lifted it directly. Inside was a table with a computer on it; a man in his fifties sat at the table playing on the computer.
"How did you get in here?" the man asked.
Yuan Jun displayed his police badge and said, "I'm a police officer. I need to ask you, is Yang Zhi Kui one of the workers here?"
"Yes?" The man finally realized something was wrong and hurriedly stood up.
"Where is he now?" Yuan Jun asked again.
"He's in the dormitory upstairs in the back yard," the man replied.
"Take us there," Yuan Jun instructed.
The man led them to the dormitory. Since the dormitory door could only be locked from the inside, he prepared to knock. However, just as he knocked once, the door swung open.
As the man pushed the door open, he called out, "Yang Zhi Kui, Yang Zhi Kui, have you gotten yourself into trouble?"
But inside was completely empty; there was no one there.
