When Xu Yiman and Yuan Jun returned, Old Shao and Jiang He had just crawled in through the entrance. Several powerful flashlights illuminated the now dark underground garage, which had once been a parking lot but was later transformed into an Underground Trading Center by unknown individuals. 0

Although the Underground Trading Center had been sealed off and the power cut, the furnishings inside remained intact. Old Shao lightly touched a nearby table, which was covered in dust, indicating that no one had been here for a long time. The most dangerous places were often the safest; in fact, the Criminal Consultant had left everyone a clue from the very beginning. 0

As they walked forward with their flashlights, they could see a body lying on the ground from a distance. Jiang He shone his flashlight around but found no clothing. 0

"It looks like he was thrown here," Jiang He said to Old Shao. "When I first came down, I heard some screams; he must not have been dead at that time." 0

Old Shao quickly moved closer, and the group soon reached the body. 0

Seeing the gruesome state of the corpse, Old Shao couldn't help but sigh. He crouched down and observed carefully for a moment. "He's dead; there's no saving him." 0

"Yes," a voice came from behind them. "When I saw him, a dog was biting his neck; that was when he lost his breath." 0

It turned out Xu Yiman and Yuan Jun had already rushed back. 0

"Animals are inherently feral; they attack the most vulnerable parts of humans. This instinct for hunting is ingrained in them." 0

Listening to Old Shao's words, they looked at the body. Indeed, there were clear bite marks on the throat, with several deep puncture wounds penetrating deep into the neck. Although blood no longer flowed out, dried blood could still be seen trickling from the wounds. 0

"Mangled is truly the best description," Xu Yiman said as she put on forensic gloves and gently crouched down. 0

Jiang He and the others shone their flashlights to illuminate her work. 0

"The most vulnerable and soft parts of the body have almost all been eaten away. It seems these dogs were not pampered pets; they could survive without humans," Xu Yiman remarked. 0

Old Shao nodded in agreement. "Those dogs are large breeds; many belong to Sled Dogs, Shepherd Dogs, or Hounds. However, with urbanization, these dogs lost their original purpose and became pets for humans. But this process is not as long as when they helped humans hunt. It seems these dogs were starving." 0

Xu Yiman touched the neck of the corpse and said to the others, "There are two rows of bite marks on his neck, with two canine teeth severing his trachea and arteries. A large amount of blood surged out toward the trachea, making it impossible for him to breathe or speak. Asphyxiation and massive bleeding occurred simultaneously; it's hard to tell which came first. However, within just a few minutes, he was fully conscious—this is truly torture." 0

Yuan Jun pointed at the corpse's eyes and said, "It doesn't matter how he died anymore; look at him now, his eyeballs are gone." 0

Xu Yiman replied, "The softest parts of a human face are the eyelids and lips." 0

One of the corpse's eyeballs was missing, while the other was completely bloodshot and swollen in its socket. The upper lip had been bitten off, and the face was covered in bite marks and torn flesh, making it nearly impossible to discern his features. 0

Xu Yiman placed her hand on the corpse's abdomen, where there was a large hole. Judging by the uneven edges of the wound, it appeared to have been bitten open while the victim was still alive. 0

"Do you see these wounds?" Xu Yiman pointed at them. "There are clear signs of life response around the injuries, which means he was still alive when his abdomen was opened. Help me widen this hole a bit." 0

Jiang He handed his flashlight to Yuan Jun, put on gloves, and then crouched down to pry open the hole in the corpse's abdomen. As he did so, a foul stench wafted out—a mix of blood and the sickening odor of dog saliva that made one want to gag. 0

As Xu Yiman reached inside, she explained to the others, "The human abdomen is covered with fat. Beneath the pale yellow layer of fat is the abdominal muscle that protects our entrails. However, these muscles offer little resistance against a dog's sharp teeth." 0

Jiang He could clearly see the chaos inside the corpse's abdomen. It was a mess; all the entrails showed signs of being torn apart. Red, yellow, and gray liquids were pooling in the lower cavity of the body, emitting a putrid smell. 0

"These entrails are almost completely shredded," Xu Yiman observed. "For animals, entrails might be considered a delicacy. Looking closely, these pet dogs started eating from the victim's stomach and tore through its wall. Stomach acid flowed out into every direction." 0

"Did those dogs eat all his intestines?" Jiang He noted that at the connection point to the stomach, both the small and large intestines were nearly nonexistent. 0

Xu Yiman nodded. "Dogs can't resist eating feces; perhaps that's where they find it most delicious. The dirty organs near the intestines—the kidneys, pancreas, and spleen—have all been gnawed on. Aside from half of a lung remaining intact, everything else is in ruins. Judging by these wounds, it was indeed done by pet dogs." 0

Captain Liu stood nearby with his flashlight aimed at the mess inside. Under its bright beam, various liquids inside shimmered as waves of foul odor emanated from the corpse, causing him to retch and step aside to vomit. 0

Xu Yiman withdrew her hand from inside the corpse's abdomen and said to Jiang He, "Alright, you can stop holding it open now." 0

Jiang He gently loosened his grip, his gloves already stained with a mixture of fluids. 0

After examining the face and abdomen, several pairs of eyes followed downwards. 0

Xu Yiman stood up. "From the condition of the body, there are bite marks all over. Most of the injuries are fatal, and the death process likely lasted several minutes." 0

"That might have been the longest few minutes of his life," Old Shao sighed. 0

"The body hasn't even begun to stiffen; the time of death is no more than half an hour," Xu Yiman continued. "I wonder if there were any sedative components in his blood; we will need to conduct a thorough autopsy to find out. However, from what I can see in his stomach, the gastric fluid is thick and has a strong acidic smell. There are no food remnants in the abdominal cavity, indicating he may not have eaten for a long time." 0

"We can take the body back for an autopsy now." 0

As soon as Xu Yiman finished speaking, her phone rang. She slowly removed her gloves, which were covered in tissue fluid, before pulling out her phone. The distinctive ringtone of WeChat echoed in the air, causing a momentary jolt among the group. 0

They gathered around her phone as Xu Yiman opened WeChat. 0

"A video," she informed them. 0

"Let's see," Shao the Elder said. 0

Xu Yiman nodded and clicked on WeChat. Sure enough, it was a video sent by the Criminal Consultant. 0

"The basement garage," Jiang He immediately recognized that the scene in the video was indeed the underground garage where they were currently located. 0

The underground garage in the video was pitch black. Half a second later, the camera switched to infrared mode, and everything appeared green. As the video shook, a humanoid figure lying in the center of the frame suddenly stood up. 0

He touched his head, as if struggling to accept the reality of the situation. The footage showed him fumbling around for a moment, swaying left and right in the darkness. After a few minutes, he seemed to adapt to the dark environment, as if he had found a way out, and began to move forward in one direction. 0

Soon, he arrived at a door. He pressed his ear against it, listening intently to the sounds inside. Then, he opened the door. He stood at the threshold for a few seconds, stunned, before turning and running away. Moments later, over a dozen Canine Creatures burst out of the room. The project team members knew all too well that these were the rabid pet dogs they had just witnessed. 0

Yuan Jun had experienced this scene firsthand, but Zhang Zong was not Yuan Jun; he lacked Yuan Jun's speed and reflexes. Moreover, he had been hungry for a long time. Faced with those frenzied dogs, Zhang Zong was clearly panicked, flailing aimlessly in the dark like a headless fly. 0

At that moment, an unidentifiable dog leaped high and landed directly on Zhang Zong's back. His legs buckled beneath him, and he fell to the ground. Rolling over, he struggled to twist his body in an attempt to stand up. But that dog had clamped down hard on his arm and wouldn't let go, rendering him unable to escape. 0

Another dog charged at him, stepping on Zhang Zong's stomach before biting down on his throat. Zhang Zong could only use his other arm to block it. However, he only had two arms while there were over ten dogs in the garage; almost instantly, they surrounded him. 0

Zhang Zong twisted and struggled, kicking at the dogs and sending a few tumbling away. But in the next moment, another dog took its place and lunged at Zhang Zong's most vulnerable spots. One dog clamped down on his throat while several others tore at his abdomen. 0

At first, Zhang Zong fought back vigorously, but gradually he stopped moving altogether. The dogs closed in around him until he was no longer visible in the video. 0

All that could be seen was that as those pet dogs feasted on Zhang Zong, their tails wagged joyfully. 0
