A man burst into the convenience store and began wildly hacking at the owner’s head. In his frenzy, he struck so hard that the handle of the knife broke and flew out of his hand.
Yet, even then, the man did not relent. He picked up a kitchen knife and continued to slash at the store owner until the owner lay in a pool of blood.
The man still did not stop his horrifying actions; he aimed the butcher knife at the store owner's seven-year-old daughter. If it hadn't been for a brave elderly neighbor who intervened, the little girl might have been brutally killed.
The man's motive for this horrific act stemmed from an incredibly trivial matter. Until you see it through to the end, it’s hard to imagine just how terrifying "superhuman syndrome" can be.
Location of the incident: Jiangsu Province, Changzhou City.
On January 3, 2016, at 7:44 PM, Wang Weiguang, the owner of Longtian Supermarket, was sitting at the cash register while his daughter, Yingying, sat nearby doing her homework.
At that moment, a mother and son were checking out with their selected items. Just as Wang Weiguang was giving change, a man suddenly rushed in with a knife and without saying a word began hacking at Wang Weiguang's head. After delivering two blows, the handle broke off, causing the knife to fly away.
However, the man did not stop there. He picked up another kitchen knife and continued to strike Wang Weiguang's head repeatedly until Wang Weiguang collapsed. The attacker then charged toward Wang Weiguang's daughter, Yingying. Fortunately, Yingying reacted quickly and jumped over the counter just as the man pursued her.
At that moment, Yingying reached the neighboring fruit shop where Zhang Jingchun, the shop owner, was arranging fruits.
When Zhang Jingchun saw Yingying, she was panicked and speechless. He intended to ask her what was wrong but before he could speak, the knife-wielding man came rushing in and slashed at Yingying's back.
Seeing this scene unfold, Zhang Jingchun rushed forward to intervene. But the attacker did not stop; after slashing Yingying four times, he turned his blade on Zhang Jingchun and struck him on the head.
Blood gushed from Zhang Jingchun's head, but he couldn’t think about himself at that moment. He tightly embraced the attacker and began shouting for help.
Hearing his cries for help, bystanders rushed in and successfully wrested the kitchen knife from the attacker’s hands before pinning him to the ground.
Meanwhile, Ms. Cheng, Wang Weiguang's wife, returned from her walk to find a mother and son frantically running out of their store while shouting for her to call the police immediately.
Ms. Cheng rushed back to the store and was stunned by the scene before her. She saw her husband lying on the ground, covered in blood and struggling, while her daughter was nowhere to be found.
Overwhelmed by fear, her legs went weak. She stumbled outside to seek help and just happened to spot her daughter emerging from the neighboring fruit store.
Seeing the several cuts on her daughter's back nearly made Ms. Cheng faint from the shock.
"They just kept hacking at her. They cut her hair completely off in one big chunk, leaving it in pieces," she explained, trembling.
"She got hurt in two places. Her down jacket wasn't very thick, and the hood protected her from two blows, but it still tore at those spots on her back."
Fortunately, her daughter's injuries were not life-threatening. Ms. Cheng quickly wrapped a towel around her husband's head and called the police and an ambulance.
While Wang Weiguang and a few others were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment, the knife-wielding man was apprehended by the crowd and brought to the police station.
Through questioning Ms. Cheng, the police learned that they did not know the assailant at all, let alone have any deep-seated grudges against him.
The investigation revealed that the attacker was named Sang Biao, a 35-year-old from Guanyun County in Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province. He had previously worked as a delivery driver for a gas company in Changzhou. His coworkers described Sang Biao as someone suffering from Hypermasculinity Syndrome.
Sang Biao had a notoriously explosive temper and peculiar personality traits, making his coworkers wary of engaging with him too much; even a minor misstep could lead to violence.
One of his coworkers, Huang, had experienced such an incident firsthand.
As a driver at the factory, Huang often followed Sang Biao during deliveries. Despite working together for a long time, they shared no camaraderie.
On one occasion, while eating together at the factory, an argument broke out over a disagreement. Sang Biao suddenly grabbed a knife and threatened Huang. Fortunately, Huang reacted quickly; otherwise, it could have turned deadly.
"We argued before lunch. He specifically brought a knife with him. I ran away; I didn't want to deal with him anymore. He's quite impulsive," Huang recounted.
"What could possibly lead someone to bring a knife over a disagreement during lunch?"
"Even during meals, nothing was normal. It was just talking, you say a sentence, I say a sentence, and if something was wrong, he would see you and come at you with a knife."

Another worker of Sang Biao, Old Yang, who was a bit hard of hearing, had turned the television volume up. Sang Biao then swung a knife at him. Fortunately, Old Yang managed to disarm him with his bare hands and escaped unharmed.
From numerous coworkers, it was learned that Sang Biao usually spent his time drinking or buying lottery tickets, typically downing half a pound of liquor every day, and the most he ever won from the lottery was just 5 yuan.
On the day of the incident, after drinking a pound of liquor, Sang Biao took a kitchen knife from the company cafeteria and headed to Longtian Supermarket.
Without saying a word, he began to wildly slash at the store owner, Wang Weiguang, and his daughter.
Although Wang Weiguang was saved after emergency treatment, forensic examination determined that he had suffered serious injuries and had completely lost his ability to work. The other two victims were assessed as having minor injuries.
So what was Sang Biao's motive? After he sobered up, the police questioned him.
It turned out that one day in December 2015, he had bought a mobile phone recharge card at Longtian Supermarket. However, when he returned to his dormitory and scratched it off, he found the numbers were unclear, making it impossible for him to recharge. He then believed the supermarket was selling counterfeit goods.
He subsequently sought out Wang Weiguang and his wife to request a refund. However, they told him that since the recharge card had already been scratched off, they could not refund him. This incident left him harboring resentment.
"He personally believed that the supermarket owner sold him a fake recharge card. He took the card back to the store to ask for a refund, but the owner said that since it had already been scratched off, they couldn't refund him. They offered to recharge it again instead."
"At that time, he wasn't very willing and didn't say much before leaving."
However, Wang Weiguang and his wife stated that while they did sell recharge cards in their supermarket, they had no recollection of Sang Biao's claim.
"He said that, but we have no memory of it at all. Since I sell recharge cards, if you were using it normally there shouldn't be any issues; there’s no question of authenticity."

On June 23, 2016, the prosecutor’s office charged Sang Biao with intentional homicide.
The prosecutor stated that in just 40 seconds, Sang Biao had stabbed three people with extreme brutality and should be punished severely.
However, Sang Biao claimed he was drunk that night and couldn’t remember what exactly happened. He refused to admit that he intended to kill anyone at that time.
He even said that he had already engaged in several discussions with Wang Weiguang, and after failing to resolve things through conversation, he had no choice but to use a knife.
But according to the surveillance footage from that time, after entering the supermarket, Sang Biao did not speak a word to Wang Weiguang; he immediately attacked him.
Yet Sang Biao insisted that the video might have been maliciously edited. Despite the ample evidence, Sang Biao continued to lie.
When the three victims demanded over 700,000 yuan in civil compensation, Sang Biao threatened that if they wanted money, they would have to take his life as well. He mentioned that he had an elderly father to support; now that his father was old and unable to work, if he paid the compensation, what would happen to his father in the future?
Moreover, if the supermarket had not sold fake goods, such a thing would not have happened. But through further understanding, Sang Biao entered the society to work after elementary school. He has been hanging around in major cities such as Jiangsu. He rarely goes home. But now he has to face compensation, but he thinks of his father. This is using his father as a shield. When the prosecutor proposed the sentencing suggestion for intentional homicide, Sang Biao was even more abnormally irritable. Perhaps in his heart, the prosecutor had been slashed by him hundreds of times. Seeing Sang Biao's remorseless look, Wang Weiguang felt very angry. Due to the serious injury, his head has lost consciousness, and his left limbs are also numb. He has now lost his ability to work. In addition, Wang Weiguang and his daughter borrowed a million yuan in high-interest loans for treatment. If Sang Biao does not compensate them, they can only transfer the store to repay the debt. It was this incident that caused serious psychological trauma to their daughter. “You see, we live upstairs, and she didn’t dare to go there. He chased her and killed her four times.” Finally, on July 21, 2016, Sang Biao was sentenced to 13 years in prison for intentional homicide.
