Shen Hao was enthusiastically recounting his glorious basketball achievements from high school, while Su Xiaonuan occasionally responded with polite but distant remarks. Lin Chen deliberately slowed his pace, falling a few steps behind them, observing their interaction without making a sound. His gaze was deep, making it hard to discern his thoughts at that moment.
Su Xiaonuan turned her head and noticed Lin Chen lagging behind, so she stopped and looked at him with slight confusion. "Lin Chen, what's wrong?"
Only then did Lin Chen quicken his pace to catch up, casually saying, "Nothing, just enjoying the scenery." He glanced at Shen Hao, a hint of provocation flashing in his eyes.
Shen Hao noticed Lin Chen's gaze and smiled. "Yeah, the park's scenery is indeed nice." He smoothly shifted the topic to Su Xiaonuan. "Xiaonuan, did you come here often when you were younger?"
Su Xiaonuan nodded. "Yes, I used to come here a lot with Lin Chen to play games." As she spoke, her gaze unconsciously turned towards Lin Chen, a slight smile gracing her lips.
Lin Chen naturally took Su Xiaonuan's hand, their fingers intertwining as if it were the most ordinary thing in the world. His hand was warm and dry; Su Xiaonuan's fingers curled slightly, her cheeks flushing with a hint of red, yet she didn't pull away.
The sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves, casting a golden glow on their clasped hands. Shen Hao watched their joined hands, his expression dimming as his smile froze on his face. After a few seconds of pause, he silently quickened his pace and walked ahead of them, his back appearing somewhat lonely.
Lin Chen glanced at Shen Hao's retreating figure, a barely noticeable smirk appearing on his lips. He turned to Su Xiaonuan with gentle eyes and a spoiled tone. "Do you want some ice cream? They have new flavors." He pointed towards a nearby snack stand, concern evident in his gaze.
Su Xiaonuan happily nodded. "Sure!" Her eyes sparkled with joy as if she were a child.
Lin Chen led Su Xiaonuan to the snack stand and bought two of the newly released ice creams. He handed one to Su Xiaonuan before tearing open the wrapper of his own.
Su Xiaonuan eagerly took the ice cream and licked it for the first time, her eyes squinting into crescent shapes with delight.
"Mm! So delicious!"
She eagerly scooped a piece of ice cream and held it up to Lin Chen's mouth. "You should try some too."
Lin Chen slightly lowered his head and ate the ice cream from Su Xiaonuan's hand.
He looked at Su Xiaonuan, his gaze gentle as water, a smile unconsciously forming at the corners of his mouth. "It's very sweet." He was referring to the ice cream, but also to his feelings at that moment.
A gentle breeze swept by, bringing a touch of coolness and causing a few leaves to fall, twirling in the air before softly landing on the grass, as if witnessing this sweet moment.
After finishing her ice cream, Su Xiaonuan sighed contentedly. "I had so much fun today!"
Lin Chen ruffled Su Xiaonuan's hair, his tone tender. "Let's come here often in the future."
He took Su Xiaonuan's hand and continued walking down the path, their figures gradually disappearing into the glow of the setting sun.
In the distance, a few birds chirped, adding a touch of life to the tranquil evening.
"Mm!" Su Xiaonuan nodded vigorously, linking her arm with Lin Chen's and resting her head gently on his shoulder.
"Brother Chen, thank you."
Lin Chen felt the weight on his shoulder and his heart raced slightly. He turned to glance at Su Xiaonuan, a smile on his lips, but he feigned calmness as he said, "What are you thanking me for? We're friends."
Su Xiaonuan lifted her head and looked into Lin Chen's eyes, speaking earnestly. "Not just friends. I want to be your girlfriend!"
As she finished speaking, her cheeks flushed like ripe apples.
