Su Xiaonuan stole a glance at Lin Chen beside her, noticing the faint blush on his ears and the way his lips curled up in a suppressed smile.
"I didn't expect Aunt Wang to take photos..." Su Xiaonuan broke the silence between them.
Lin Chen cleared his throat lightly. "Yeah, I didn't expect it either." His gaze wandered, unable to meet Su Xiaonuan's eyes directly.
Su Xiaonuan gently shook Lin Chen's hand. "But thank you, Aunt Wang."
"Mm," Lin Chen nodded, the curve of his lips deepening slightly. "And thank you."
He turned to look at Su Xiaonuan, his gaze softening. "Thank you for agreeing to me."
The afterglow of the setting sun spilled over the tree-lined path in the community, casting dappled shadows on the ground.
Lin Chen and Su Xiaonuan walked side by side, the atmosphere much more relaxed than it had been earlier in the square, yet tinged with a subtle shyness.
"I... I can help you pack your things."
Su Xiaonuan lowered her head, kicking at small stones by the roadside, trying to distract herself with the task of organizing luggage.
Lin Chen turned his head to look at her, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Sure, then I'll trouble you, Nuan Nuan."
Once they returned home, both of them still felt a bit awkward.
Su Xiaonuan took the initiative to open Lin Chen's suitcase. "I've already had someone clean up the house at Seaside; all the furniture and appliances are ready. You can just move in directly."
"Mm, thank you for your hard work," Lin Chen nodded, his gaze unconsciously falling on Su Xiaonuan.
He walked over to her side and picked up a piece of clothing to fold it neatly. "By the way, is there anything you want to do at Seaside? Work or hobbies or something?"
Su Xiaonuan paused her actions and thought for a moment. "I want to open a dessert shop at Seaside; I've loved making cakes and desserts since I was little."
She turned to look at Lin Chen, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
"What do you think?"
"Of course it's great," Lin Chen replied without hesitation, his eyes filled with affection.
"I support you. Once you're settled in, we can start planning—choosing a location for the shop, decorating it; I can help with all of that."
A radiant smile blossomed on Su Xiaonuan's face, her eyes and brows brimming with happiness. "Thank you, Brother Chen."
Lin Chen took out an exquisite photo album from the suitcase and handed it to Su Xiaonuan. "Take a look at this."
Su Xiaonuan took the album and opened the first page, revealing a yellowed old photograph. In the picture, two little girls with pigtails and a chubby little boy stood together, beaming innocent smiles at the camera.
“Wow, this is our elementary school group photo!” Su Xiaonuan exclaimed, pointing at one of the girls in the picture with excitement. “You were wearing a red scarf back then; you looked so cute!”
Lin Chen leaned in to take a look as well, a slight smile forming on his lips. “Yeah, you always followed me around, calling me Brother Chen.”
Su Xiaonuan playfully punched Lin Chen's shoulder. “And you were always teasing me, making me cry!”
Lin Chen chuckled and ruffled Su Xiaonuan's hair. “That was because I liked you, silly.”
As they continued flipping through the album, each photo held memories they had shared together. From elementary school to middle school, then high school and college, the two gradually grew up; their youthful appearances faded away, replaced by maturity and steadiness. Yet, what remained unchanged was the understanding and friendship in their eyes.
“Time really flies,” Su Xiaonuan sighed. “In the blink of an eye, we’ve grown up so much.”
“Yeah,” Lin Chen said softly as he wrapped an arm around Su Xiaonuan's shoulders. “But thankfully, we’ve always been together.”
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. Opening it revealed a sparkling diamond ring resting inside. He gazed deeply into Su Xiaonuan's eyes and knelt on one knee. “Nuan Nuan, marry me. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and grow old together.”
