The following information was shared with me by Juan Juan: 0

In our country, professional Hypnotists are quite rare. Compared to the population base, their numbers are negligible. The term Hypnosis originated from abroad; if we were to express it in local terms, Hypnosis would equate to witchcraft, and witchcraft is indeed Hypnosis. In the past, when science was not well understood, this term carried an air of mystery. 0

In a chivalrous sense, Hypnosis refers to stimulating a person or animal's visual, auditory, or tactile senses to induce a state of sleep, with an additional element of verbal suggestion for humans. This is the most straightforward understanding of Hypnosis. Broadly speaking, Hypnosis refers to a change in psychological state induced by specific stimuli. 0

Ordinary Hypnosis is built on a relationship of mutual trust between the Hypnotist and the subject; otherwise, it is difficult for someone to be hypnotized. Initially, the techniques of Hypnosis were used in religious rituals and other practices, such as the common phenomenon of human bridges in Hypnosis. However, as time progressed, people discovered the positive effects of Hypnosis on humans. 0

Since then, Hypnosis has evolved into a form of psychological therapy that has helped many individuals suffering from mental disorders. For instance, it can be used to treat anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, and more. In recent years, psychological education in our country has gradually developed, and soon the profession of Hypnotist will undoubtedly become popular. As Juan Juan puts it, healing a person's psychological issues is just as important as addressing their physical ailments. 0

Hypnosis can actually be categorized into levels: shallow, moderate, and deep. 0

Within Deep Hypnosis, there are several sub-levels. Different institutions classify these levels differently. For example, the Stanford Scale divides the depth of Hypnosis into twelve levels. However, currently both domestically and internationally, the most commonly used classification for the depth of Hypnosis is Arons' six-level classification. 0

Under this six-level classification system, the depths of Hypnosis range from shallow to deep across six levels. The first level involves eyelids sticking together; at this point, the subject feels drowsy and lethargic. The second level involves arm rigidity; during this stage, limbs move according to the guidance of the Hypnotist. The third level entails forgetting numbers; in fact, it can sometimes include forgetting memories altogether. 0

Generally speaking, therapeutic Hypnosis can delve into a patient's inner psyche by the third level to address psychological issues stemming from childhood traumas. At the fourth level, the subject's pain sensation disappears; if guided properly by the Hypnotist, even if an arm is amputated or an eye is gouged out, they will not feel any pain. 0

At the fifth level, positive hallucinations occur; at the sixth level, negative hallucinations manifest. 0

The hallucinations induced by Deep Hypnosis can be categorized into positive and negative types. Positive hallucinations mean seeing things that do not exist. For example, when we were in the cave earlier, we experienced positive hallucinations; that female ghost was nonexistent but appeared before us due to these hallucinations. In reality, no one was choking my neck at that moment yet I still struggled to breathe—this illustrates the power of Hypnosis. It not only obscures your vision but also confuses your brain. 0

Conversely, negative hallucinations refer to failing to see things that should exist. For instance, if there is a deep ravine before you but after undergoing Hypnosis you perceive it as a smooth path ahead—if someone guides you to walk forward at that moment, you could end up severely injured. 0

According to this classification system, our symptoms fall under levels four and five: loss of pain sensation and experiencing positive hallucinations. This way, those who commit suicide may not feel pain during the act and thus might abandon their suicidal thoughts. However, it should be noted that using Hypnosis to compel someone to commit suicide or murder is quite challenging. 0

Under Deep Hypnosis, there remains a line of self-defense within a person's Subconscious. If the Hypnotist asks them to do something that crosses this line, the Subconscious will not comply. For example, a person with a strong Moral Sense, even if hypnotized, would not steal something. However, if the person is inherently inclined towards Murder and Arson, a simple suggestion could lead them to act. 0

This illustrates the complexity of human psychology. Each individual's susceptibility to Hypnosis varies; for instance, those with active minds and rich imaginations are more easily hypnotized, while someone who is rigid and critical may be less so. 0

Take, for example, a person with suicidal tendencies; it would be straightforward to suggest they take their own life. But someone like Yan Junde would never consider such an act. This indicates that the Hypnotist must be highly skilled—one of the best in the world. It has been noted that successful Hypnosis relies on the trust established between the Hypnotist and the subject. 0

This brings us to another term: Instant Hypnosis. Generally speaking, Hypnosis that occurs within about three minutes can be considered rapid. However, if it happens in thirty seconds or less, it qualifies as instant Hypnosis. This type of instant Hypnosis typically involves four steps: establishing rapport, enhancing focus, an immediate interruption, and deepening the suggestion. For instance, a Street Performer might first tap your shoulder to establish rapport. They may then fixate their gaze on you or speak authoritatively to enhance focus. Next, they would abruptly withdraw their hand to create an interruption. Finally, they would continue with persistent suggestions. Most Street Performers tend to choose individuals who appear easily hypnotizable, often using drugs to induce sleep; such actions fall outside the realm of true Hypnosis. 0

It seems that the Hypnotist we encountered employed this latter method. Utilizing some unidentified substance along with their exceptional skills in Hypnosis, they managed to hypnotize someone as resistant as Yan Junde in an instant. 0

By the time Juan Juan finished speaking, it was already around midnight. It was truly eye-opening; I had no idea there were so many intricacies involved in Hypnosis. Most people’s understanding of a Hypnotist likely revolves around someone idly swinging a pocket watch in front of others. 0

Juan Juan remarked, "Theoretically speaking, a Hypnosis Master could quickly hypnotize someone like Yan Junde using hallucinogenic substances. However, such skilled individuals are rare in our country!" 0

"Experts are often found among the common folk," I said while rubbing my temples. "With our country's large population base, it's not surprising that a skilled Hypnotist could emerge. It's unfortunate that this person chose to use their talents for murder instead of good..." 0

Sighing, I continued, "The likelihood of the Killer poisoning food is low; I suspect there’s something wrong with the water in Baili Village. Such substances typically pose no harm under normal circumstances. That's why we didn't find anything in the bodies; not everyone in Baili Village committed suicide under strange circumstances. However, if guided by the Killer, these substances could rapidly induce Deep Hypnosis in Victims and lead them to experience hallucinations strong enough to drive them to suicide." 0

Juan Juan frowned and began pacing in the dormitory. "What you're suggesting is theoretically possible, but what exactly are these substances? With my current level of knowledge, I can't ascertain that yet. We need to test the water in Baili Village!" 0

At this hour, it was impossible to test the water source for any issues. 0

After discussing serious matters, I realized I felt oddly constrained in front of Juan Juan. Although we hadn’t talked about what happened earlier that afternoon since entering this room, there was an unspoken barrier between us. I knew that unless we clarified this matter, it would always remain a knot in both our hearts. 0
This matter, of course, could not be initiated by Juan Juan. I said, "What happened this afternoon was my impulsiveness. Xiaocao was a good girl; her death is just too..." I could no longer continue my sentence. The moment I thought of Xiaocao dying in my arms, my heart began to ache, and I couldn't calm down for a long time. 0

Juan Juan sighed as well, holding my hand and then saying, "In our line of work, where is there no danger? Although Xiaocao was a girl, she was also one of us. Over the years, how many people have we seen die? How many comrades have sacrificed themselves?" 0

"Which of them wasn't in their prime? Which of them wasn't someone else's child or someone's parent?" Juan Juan continued, "But did any of them ever shrink back from their posts? They loved this country with their lives; they protected this country with their blood. You and I have experienced this firsthand; we know it is not just empty talk. Such feelings cannot simply be summed up with 'heroes never die.'" 0

I nodded heavily; some things can only be understood through personal experience. 0

"You still have a bullet in your body that can't be removed," Juan Juan said seriously, looking at me gently. "What is all this for? For money? For profit? Or for power? If we were doing this for those things, would we push ourselves so hard?" 0

"Do you remember the oath you made with Captain Shi back in the day?" Juan Juan asked. 0

I immediately stood up straight and said earnestly, "No matter how others see or think about it, as long as Killer is still out there, as long as Killer remains at large, we will pursue him across mountains and rivers. Even if there's only one breath left in me, even if I bleed to the last drop, I will seek justice for the deceased." 0

Once I shouted those words out, I felt an inexplicable relief in my heart. On this path, no one knows if the people beside them will die one day or if they themselves will perish. The most precious life seems to be the most fragile thing in our profession. But since we chose this path and followed our inner choices, we cannot retreat; we can only move forward. 0

This is the deepest honor within each of our hearts. 0
