He revealed a sly smile, and my heart sank. I pulled up a chair and sat down, unsure of what Feng Tang Song wanted to say to me. He appeared calm as he looked at Juan Juan on the hospital bed, shaking his head as he spoke, "I am truly sorry about Yang Xiaojuan, but I never expected you all would go this far. Sacrificing everything for someone who might be a Criminal—was it worth it?" 0

Feng Tang Song's words carried deeper meaning, and I caught on. Furrowing my brow, I pondered for a moment before replying, "We don't consider what is worth it or not; we only know that capturing the Criminal is our responsibility. Even if he is a Criminal lurking in someone's heart, one whose true nature may surface at any moment, we will capture him." 0

"This is our choice; it's their choice," I said, rubbing my temples. "Since Juan Juan is the guide, she had many opportunities to awaken us from Hypnosis. The others realized this too; they could have woken up unscathed..." 0

Feng Tang Song nodded gravely, then he nodded again more emphatically and said, "For that, I thank you all. Although only one personality remains within me, I remember everything—those childhood memories." 0

He adjusted his sitting position to find comfort before continuing, "When I was created, my original self was probably only in my teens. I’ve forgotten which number I was among those created; all I know is that I am at least one of the elders." 0

"I believe there is no such thing as empathy in this world," Feng Tang Song sighed and continued, "Back then, he was constantly abused by his Stepfather and witnessed his mother with the Stepfather's son. How could a child bear such things? Thus, the first split personality was born—a middle-aged man in his forties. But this man was just as soft and insecure; he hid himself away in a corner." 0

Feng Tang Song reminisced about certain events. "He was useless; the little boy didn’t know what kind of person could protect him, so he created many others—both male and female, young and old. These beings were kind; the boy wanted them to protect him. Yet we must admit one thing: being good does not help when faced with evil. These people could only chat with the boy but couldn’t protect him." 0

"So these were the first batch of personalities created by the boy," Feng Tang Song shrugged and said. "I was among those created early on. But these kind souls couldn’t erase the scars on the boy; they couldn’t stop the pain in his heart." 0

I nodded. 0

Feng Tang Song continued, "Not long after, I began to realize that I was different from others. Among the first batch, only I could sense the existence of other personalities. The others were completely unaware of this fact. I wanted to unite to protect the boy, but I failed." 0

"Thus, the Second Batch of Personalities was born; it seemed the boy realized that kindness couldn’t alleviate his suffering." Feng Tang Song held up two fingers and said, "The Second Batch of Personalities were all villains—though their levels of evil varied. Some were mere petty thieves; some began self-harming; while others had severe violent tendencies! They dared to fight back with knives! They dared to kill!" 0

"But even with the help of these villains—not just one but many—the boy’s physical age was simply too young," Feng Tang Song explained. "It’s not hard to imagine that even if a child wielded a knife against an adult, the odds were still against him. The Stepfather thought he had been pushed into a corner but had no idea that within a child's body lay dozens of souls!" 0

Feng Tang Song appeared somewhat agitated as he spoke. "Then many more personalities were born—all High Intelligence individuals who knew how to leverage their advantages for their benefit. They understood that without guns, even knives might not be enough to take down the Stepfather—especially since he started locking himself up at night." 0

"There are both good and bad aspects to this," Feng Tang Song said seriously as he looked at me. "At the same time, a significant portion became aware of other personalities' existence. Two fools might play happily together, but a smart person would never allow another smart individual nearby." 0

"They all knew that one day, these personalities would inevitably wage war within the boy's body!" Feng Tang Song's eyes sparkled with excitement. "But they made an agreement: before killing their own family members, those High Intelligence personalities who were aware of others could not act recklessly." 0

"Do you know? They wrote their plans down on paper and encrypted it," Feng Tang Song said with a hint of amusement. "Isn't it interesting? One person writing notes to themselves and encrypting them. It actually makes sense because the High Intelligence personalities feared that their plans might be discovered by other personalities that might emerge unexpectedly, so encryption was necessary." 0

"They probably spent over a year planning the murders," Feng Tang Song swallowed hard and continued. "During that year, the boy controlled by the High Intelligence personalities behaved very obediently. He was particularly enthusiastic towards his family, as if he had forgotten the pain he had previously endured." 0

Feng Tang Song explained, "Then in the following year, the High Intelligence personalities administered drugs—chronic poison. Clever, right? They knew that using a knife would lead to discovery. Eventually, the Stepfather and mother died. He pushed his brother off the roof; you should know that cases of falling from heights are among the hardest to distinguish between homicide and suicide." 0

"Heh heh." Feng Tang Song shrugged. "When the police came to investigate, they found that the Stepfather and mother had died from chronic poisoning, so they searched the entire house. In the brother's room, they discovered packaging for the poison. It had his brother's fingerprints on it; he had stolen it from his brother's room. For an entire year, he left no fingerprints behind." 0

As I listened to this story, I found myself somewhat dazed. I couldn't quite understand how a child could create those High Intelligence personalities and achieve such a level of maturity and meticulousness. 0

Seemingly sensing my confusion, Feng Tang Song smiled and said, "You must be thinking that this child is too cunning and impressive, right? Actually, it's not so simple. If you've lived in such an environment for many years—constantly fearful and on edge—you learn everything you can see not to gain knowledge or become smart but simply to survive!" 0

"To survive!" Feng Tang Song raised his voice and continued, "Survival is an instinct all animals are born with in this world. To survive, he can be smarter than anyone else in existence. Sorry!" 0

Feng Tang Song took a few deep breaths and rubbed his eyes vigorously. After a while, he calmed down and said apologetically, "I'm sorry; I lost my composure. Let me continue. The police found online posts from the brother expressing dissatisfaction with their parents. This is normal; every teenage boy has issues with their parents, especially someone as rebellious as him." 0

"Ha ha, you can guess the outcome now," Feng Tang Song chuckled. "At that time, no one would have thought that the brother was not the Killer. The real Killer was just a little boy—a tiny child who understood nothing at all. The police believed that the brother poisoned their parents' drinking water out of dissatisfaction, but after their deaths, this teenage brother realized he couldn't bear the weight of it all and jumped off the building to commit suicide." 0

"This outcome pleased everyone," Feng Tang Song laughed. "Everything became interesting; for the first time, the little boy felt that the sky outside was so blue and the air so fresh—it seemed everything had turned beautiful. These High Intelligence personalities tacitly eliminated all evidence so that the little boy never understood where his brother, mother, or father had gone." 0

I nodded and then asked, "At this point, did the boy's true self still appear often?" 0

Feng Tang Song shook his head and replied, "By this time, the first and second batches of numerous personalities had begun to merge; they hadn't appeared for a long time. The little boy knew deep down that he might no longer need these personalities, so many began to fuse together." 0

Feng Tang Song tapped his forehead with his hand, pondering for a moment before saying, "I remember that at one point, the little boy seemed to have over seventy personalities. But it’s not a problem; once the survival issue was resolved, a large number of personalities began to merge. Over forty personalities merged away, leaving behind those with stronger traits, making it difficult to integrate the remaining thirty or so." 0

Listening to Feng Tang Song's words felt like I was hearing something incomprehensible. I could hardly believe how that little boy managed to survive during those days. How could his frail body contain the souls of more than seventy individuals? And what kind of beasts were those parents? 0

Such examples are certainly not rare in our country. As a criminal investigator, I've heard many stories like this, yet each time I listen, I feel immense anger and resentment. Feng Tang Song comforted me, saying, "Now, the little boy is no longer here; I thank him on your behalf." 0

I nodded, took a deep breath, and then asked, "Since the boy's parents are dead, what happens next?" 0

Feng Tang Song nodded and replied, "That's right; it's just as you imagine. The personalities of high intelligence know that having over thirty souls in one body won't last long before it collapses. The boy is still young; it's normal for him not to understand some things now, but there will come a day when he will break down." 0

I agreed wholeheartedly and said, "So these high-intelligence personalities began to devise a plan to eliminate the remaining ones?" 0

"This is a scheme," Feng Tang Song explained. "For many years, these high-intelligence personalities have studied numerous psychology and forensic psychology books. At the same time, they used their intelligence to earn a lot of money and enjoyed a high standard of living. There’s an unwritten rule among them: no one can interfere with this body's physiological state." 0

Feng Tang Song continued, "Because they understand that a soul must have a complete body to inhabit. However, those with average intelligence seem not to think this way. One day, an incident became the catalyst!" 0
