As I spoke, I dashed outside, with Yan Junde closely following. The voice of the Detective Captain crackled through my earpiece: "Be careful of those Insect Eaters! Close in quickly!" 0

Across the street, we could already hear the commotion coming from the area where Tianyu Company was located. When we reached the corner, we saw the Fat Man and the Thin Man had taken Greasy Forensic Doctor and the Old Daoist hostage. The Fat Man held a crowbar tightly against Greasy Forensic Doctor's neck, while the Thin Man had one hand gripping a jar around the Old Daoist's neck and the other brandishing a knife pressed against his waist. 0

The Criminal Police Officers surrounded them at the display window of Tianyu Company. The Detective Captain said, "You two are surrounded. I advise you to drop your weapons. You know what the consequences of murder are. Think about your future; you’re both in your twenties—consider it carefully." 0

The Thin Man shouted at the approaching Criminal Police Officers, "Don't move! Stay right where you are! If you come any closer, I'll kill him! Back off, back off!" As he spoke, he pressed the knife closer to the Old Daoist's waist, and with summer clothes being light, a red stain quickly appeared beneath the Old Daoist's robe. 0

In pain, the Old Daoist cried out, "Oh my dear mother! Please listen to him; don't act impulsively! I can't die! I have an elderly mother over eighty and a child who needs me! My youngest is only three years old; he can't lose his father! Oh my heavens!" 0

"Alright, alright!" The Detective Captain raised his hands and gestured for us to step back slowly. We retreated a short distance as he continued, "How about this? They are just ordinary passersby. What if I become your hostage? I'm the leader here; if I’m taken hostage, they won’t dare to act rashly or fire their weapons!" 0

"No way!" At that moment, the Fat Man exclaimed, "They’re police officers! They’re all very capable. We don’t want you as a hostage; you all need to leave quickly, or I’ll really kill him!" I noticed that the Fat Man's hand holding the crowbar trembled slightly, his gaze unfocused. From this, it was clear that he was less likely to go through with it than the Thin Man. 0

I slowly spoke up, "Honestly, since we can stand here and see through your actions, don’t you realize something is wrong? Why are only you two here tonight? Think about it—why were you caught instead of him?" 0

Unconsciously, both men began to lick their lips; beads of sweat as large as beans emerged on their foreheads and trickled down their brows. It was evident they were quite nervous. 0

"Nonsense!" The Fat Man shouted anxiously. "You're trying to sow discord; I know your tricks! I don’t believe anything you say. Get out of here quickly; otherwise, I really will kill someone! Don’t underestimate me—I’m serious!" 0

I didn’t care what the Fat Man said; it was clear that among them, the leader was the Thin Man. Although he remained silent, his furrowed brow indicated that whether he believed me or not, my words had lodged in his mind like a small thorn—suspicion was like a flame; once ignited even slightly, it could spread uncontrollably. 0

Seizing the moment, I continued, "Think carefully; I'm not forcing you. You arrived just before us. I know you kidnapped Yang Shuai; he told me everything. He’s out of it now because he’s scared. You should be too—let them go and nothing will happen. There’s no need for mutual destruction." 0

"Second Brother." The Fat Man's sweat increased dramatically until his entire face glistened with it. Sweat dripped from his brows into his eyes, causing him to blink repeatedly. He referred to the Thin Man as Second Brother; if I'm correct, then the young man who hadn’t come out must be their older brother. 0

"Big Brother is… we…" The Fat Man’s tone became noticeably anxious; it seemed he was starting to believe my words. 0

The Thin Man glanced around and said, "This isn’t the time for this discussion; we’ll talk when we get back! Let me say this one last time: step aside." As he spoke, he pressed the knife deeper into the Old Daoist’s waist. It was clear that this Thin Man was ruthless. Realizing that pushing further could lead him to actually kill someone, I quickly said, "Alright, alright—everyone step back! Don’t hurt him." 0

Tears streamed down the Old Daoist's face as he said, "Brother, thank you! When this is over, I'll definitely pray for you! Wishing you longevity equal to heaven and a happy birthday…" 0

The two men continued to drag Greasy Forensic Doctor and the Old Daoist backward while we maintained our distance and slowly moved away until we reached the corner of the street. Suddenly, two figures sprang out from behind Killer. To our surprise, they were two fellow detectives. 0

It seemed this was a backup plan left by the Detective Captain. 0

Two figures, one fat and one thin, never expected someone to emerge from behind them. A heavy blow struck the back of their necks before they could react, and their arms were swiftly restrained. Following that, a Criminal Police Officer delivered a kick to the back of their knees, causing a clatter as a dagger and a crowbar fell to the ground. 0

Seeing this, the Greasy Forensic Doctor and the old Taoist immediately fled. The old Taoist ran like a frightened dog, scrambling on all fours. He then grabbed my hand and exclaimed, "That was so damn thrilling! Now I understand why this place is called Magic City. I've only been here for two months and have already encountered two unfortunate events. What a nightmare! I just thought his jar looked nice and asked about it, and almost lost my life in the process..." 0

I couldn't help but laugh at the old Taoist's reaction, but thankfully both of them were unharmed. Suddenly, I remembered something and shouted, "Damn it, watch out for the Insect Eater!" As I said this, I lunged to snatch the jar from the thin man's hands. However, he had already tossed it aside, and in an instant, we heard a buzzing sound. 0

Next, I felt the Insect Eater land on my arm. I quickly shouted, "Eat the herbal medicine!" I pulled out the prepared herbs to put in my mouth, but before I could do so, I sensed something was off. There was no feeling of pain from the Insect Eater burrowing into my skin; instead, it just felt itchy. 0

Could it be that those who had been bitten by the Insect Eater developed immunity and would never be penetrated again? Amidst the chaos, I saw the fat man and thin man struggling to get up and running away. Without hesitation, I abandoned the herbs and chased after them, with a faster shadow darting ahead of me. 0

That person was none other than Yan Junde. He arrived behind the fat man and thin man in mere seconds. Then he leaped into the air and kicked the thin man in the back, causing him to fall flat on the ground. Using that momentum, he executed a spinning kick that struck the fat man’s shoulder, slamming him against the wall of a shop. The others quickly reacted and rushed over to restrain both men once more. 0

"Good skills! Impressive!" the Detective Captain couldn't help but exclaim. 0

At that moment, the Detective Captain noticed that I was still holding onto uneaten herbs and exclaimed, "Why haven't you eaten them? Wait a minute—how come you're not hurt?" 0

I raised my hand under a streetlight on another road and saw red welts forming on my skin. They were itchy enough to make me want to scratch them. Everyone else also looked at their own bite marks under the light; we exchanged glances, unsure of what to say. 0

After a long pause, I tentatively suggested, "This... this looks like symptoms from mosquito bites?" 0

Then we all burst into laughter. Recently we had been so scared by those creatures that we instinctively thought anything was an attack from the Insect Eater—even failing to recognize mosquito bites right away. But why did the thin man's jar contain nothing but mosquitoes? That was truly puzzling. 0

Suddenly, a possibility struck me—could it be that I had guessed correctly? Was their boss planning to abandon these two? But if that were true, how did he know we had uncovered this clue? If not, how could we explain this jar full of mosquitoes? 0

I stepped closer to confront the fat man and thin man directly. Raising my arm, I declared, "The jar your boss gave you isn't filled with Insect Eaters! It's full of mosquitoes! Now do you believe it? Your boss has betrayed you; how much longer do you plan to protect him?" 0

As I spoke, I picked up the jar and shook it slightly; something dark fell out—not a Black Beetle but rather a flat piece of black coal. 0

"Second Brother! Our boss really sold us out!" The fat man cried out while sobbing. 0

The thin man's mouth twitched as he seemed equally unable to believe that his so-called brother had betrayed him. But strangely enough, if their boss intended to sell them out, what could his motive be? He certainly wouldn't betray his sworn brothers without reason; this suggested something else must have happened tonight. 0

A sudden realization hit me as I recalled something an old man had inadvertently mentioned in the jungles of Myanmar; now that I thought about it, everything seemed to align perfectly with timing. 0

I quickly asked the Detective Captain, "Captain, is there a Jade Exhibition happening in Magic City recently?" 0

The Detective Captain thought for a moment and then replied, "Yes, yes, I remember now. There’s a personal Jade Exhibition the day after tomorrow. Many Jade enthusiasts will bring their treasures, and even foreign friends will participate. However, the security there is not our responsibility; a professional security company is handling it." 0

"Where are the Jades now?" I pressed on. 0

The Detective Captain said, "The Jades should already be stored in the exhibition hall since it starts the day after tomorrow." He looked at me with an incredulous expression and said, "Are you suggesting that these two people are bait? That they were deliberately sacrificed? And that the Killer's real target isn't Tianyu Company, but rather the Jade Exhibition?" 0

I nodded heavily and said, "Immediately take these two back to the police station. Captain, you need to contact the person in charge over there right away!" 0

The Detective Captain nodded and quickly began calling the center to get the contact number of the person responsible for security at the Jade Exhibition. He got straight to the point: "I'm Captain of the Criminal Investigation Team from the Police Department. You need to check if your Jade Exhibition exhibits have been stolen. I'm not hanging up; hurry up!" 0

As he spoke, he switched to speakerphone. 0

We heard the person in charge say, "That's impossible! We're sleeping in a room in the exhibition hall, and everything is locked up tight. The main door uses fingerprint access, and all windows are bulletproof glass. How could anything get in? Unless someone came through the Ventilation Duct... Haha, then they must be a rat... Oh no! The Jades are missing!" 0

A Charming Widow sent a letter to a Young Man, inviting him over for dinner late at night. Afterward, she let him drive her husband's Gallop. Coincidentally, on his way back, he encountered a Young Woman hitchhiking. Her actions after getting into the car made it hard for him to maintain his composure.
