Chen Jing omitted Zheng Yu and went to her grandfather's house. She then talked to Zheng's mother about receiving peaches from her grandfather.
"Thank you for thinking of Xiaoyu. We also wanted to go see his grandfather, but it got delayed after the accident, and we didn't tell his grandfather," sighed Zheng's mother, with an unmistakable weariness in her eyes.
"It will get better," Chen Jing comforted.
Zheng Yu lowered his eyelids, lost in thought. During a lull when Zheng's mother went to pour tea, Chen Jing asked Zheng Yu in a low voice if there was anything he wanted to say to Zheng's mother.
Zheng Yu shook his head, "No, just take a look."
Chen Jing didn't stay long, on the way back, Chen Jing couldn't help but ask, "There's no 'going home' on your bucket list. Don't you want to go home?"
Zheng Yu walked ahead of her, and Chen Jing couldn't see his expression, only his voice sounded a bit dull, "I don't want to."
The lingering light of the setting sun cast long, elongated shadows. Chen Jing tentatively reached out to touch the semi-transparent figure, " Zheng Yu, you seem to have become even more transparent."
These days, Zheng Yu's soul has undergone a change for the first time, and he seems to have noticed it himself, with a visible stiffness in his spine.
"Are you lying to me?" Chen Jing's voice was trembling, and he finally understood why that wish list didn't work.
"Your last wishes are all fake, aren't they?" Although she had already guessed the answer, Chen Jing still wanted to hear him say it.
"Chen Jing, I... I didn't mean to deceive you," Zheng Yu explained in a panic. The list of last wishes did include things he had always wanted to do, but they hadn't been fulfilled to the extent of being considered last wishes.
"You want to go home, but you haven't said it, right?" Chen Jing took a deep breath, trying hard to calm herself down.
"I do want to, but..." But he is afraid, afraid of seeing his parents looking haggard.
He is also afraid of really leaving and never seeing Chen Jing again.
"I understand that you are reluctant. Why did you lie to me?" Why didn't you make it clear from the beginning? I've been messing around with him for these days, and in the end, I was made a fool of.
"I'm not..." Zheng Yu subconsciously wanted to pull him, but Chen Jing stepped back to avoid it.
The soft sunlight passed through Zheng Yu's body, leaving no shadow behind. Chen Jing took the umbrella away for the first time, exposing Zheng Yu to the sunlight.
Chen Jing stared into his eyes without flinching, "Didn't you ask me why I always carry an umbrella? It's because I want you to feel like you need me. I want you to feel like you can't do anything without me."
He just didn't want to always feel dispensable.
"That list contains everything I want to do, I just haven't told you about some of them," Zheng Yu tried to explain.
"What is your true wish then?" Chen Jing looked at him with an unprecedented seriousness.
Zheng Yu Suddenly startled, his voice trembling in a way that even he couldn't detect, "Are you trying to drive me away?"
Chen Jing Suddenly feeling very tired, "I'm not trying to make you leave, I just hope you'll tell me the truth."
Zheng Yu looked at the half-height Chen Jing and suddenly didn't know what to do with him. He cursed under his breath, "Fine, I'll tell you, go reincarnate early and stop bothering you."
The hospital's ventilator had been working for who knows how long. The person in the bed lay quietly, as if they had a bad dream, their eyelids twitched slightly.
On the side, Zheng's mother was wiping his hands with a towel and didn't notice, she said to herself, "Today a classmate of yours came to our house and brought a lot of peaches. They were all sent by your grandfather. Didn't you say you wanted to eat them? Wake up quickly."
