"Run!" I shouted as I turned and sprinted away.
Although a bullet had struck Guo Guoqing in the chest, it hadn't hit his heart, which meant we still had time to escape. If Guo Guoqing could hold on a little longer, we should have about seven or eight seconds to get away.
Dezi understood this too and turned to run alongside me. Yuzelin grabbed Fei Fei and turned to flee, but at that moment, Fei Fei clung to Yuzelin, and both of them fell almost simultaneously. Dezi and I bent down to pull them up while keeping our momentum, trying to drag them out.
Yuzelin instinctively reached out his hands, but just as Dezi and I were about to grab him, he suddenly pulled his hands back like an arrow. "You guys run! I'm sorry for her."
At the same time, Fei Fei shouted almost in unison, "Ha ha, if we're going to die, let's die together!"
Neither Dezi nor I expected Yuzelin to withdraw at such a critical moment, choosing instead to face death alongside Fei Fei. But by then, we had already dashed outside and had no chance to turn back and save them. Dezi and I exchanged a glance and jumped from the second floor.
The first floor was a hall with a height of over three meters. We jumped down directly; although we landed on all fours, I felt a sharp pain as my right foot broke. Dezi was also sprawled beside me, facing away, so I couldn't see his condition.
At that moment, the main door of the city government building was open. Due to the momentum from our fall, we slid a short distance toward the entrance upon landing. Just then, Juan Juan was walking in, seemingly having heard from the little beggar that it was safe inside. However, upon seeing us crash down from the second floor in a frenzy, Juan Juan immediately quickened her pace and rushed inside.
"Let's go!" I shouted desperately as the bomb was about to explode. With my remaining strength in my left leg, I kicked Dezi hard in the backside. He was caught off guard and slipped on the marble floor, sliding toward the door.
Even Juan Juan, no matter how naive she might be at that moment, understood why we were running so desperately. Yet despite this realization, she still dashed past Dezi and reached the entrance.
"Fool..."
Before I could finish my sentence, a tremendous roar erupted. Then I saw the entire building begin to tilt dangerously. In an instant, cracks appeared in the ceiling's concrete slabs as they started falling one by one. The entrance was the weakest point; almost immediately after the sound erupted, it was buried under collapsing walls.
My body throbbed with pain, but I struggled to stand up. At that moment, Juan Juan had already reached me. As a man who had never cried before, tears welled up in my eyes: "What are you doing? Get inside!"
While helping me toward the restroom, Juan Juan said, "What will I do if you die? Even if you die, you're still mine. Even if we go down there, you still have to marry me!"
I suddenly remembered that Fei Fei had just said something similar: what exactly is love? It can make you willing to die for someone, yet it can also lead you to your own demise...
The explosion's power was overwhelming. In an instant, the four-story building tilted precariously, achieving a delicate balance that prevented it from collapsing entirely. Juan Juan and I huddled in a corner, fully aware that it wouldn't be long before the entire structure came crashing down.
At that moment, I heard a loud blast, followed by the sound of someone rushing through the gaping hole created by the explosion. It was the group of robbers from earlier. A few of them used hydraulic jacks to prop up the surrounding area, ensuring the building wouldn’t completely cave in. Then, the leader removed his mask, revealing none other than Zhao Mingkun.
"Indeed, it's the Heavenly Domain Organization..."
"Take them away!" Zhao Mingkun commanded.
Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my neck, and everything began to spin around me.
In my hazy state, I heard Zhao Mingkun say, "Leave those two bodies here and set them on fire."
As he spoke, Zhao Mingkun slashed at my and Juan Juan's arms, blood immediately spilling onto the ground. He then applied pressure to stop the bleeding. "Remember not to leave any evidence. Set it on fire; this should confuse them for a while."
By this point, I was already fading in and out of consciousness and eventually succumbed to sleep.

I don’t know how long it had been when I awoke from my stupor. To my surprise, it was indeed the Heavenly Domain Organization that was after me. Perhaps they intended to kill me, but their true goal seemed to be extracting me alive. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have used such professional equipment; moreover, the explosives in the building were clearly biased to one side and somewhat lacking.
But Yuzelin and Fei Fei had no chance of survival; they were too close to Guo Guoqing, who was bound with explosives...
A figure stood beside me as I regained consciousness. I looked over to see a slender silhouette: "Zhao Mingkun! How long have I been unconscious? Where am I?"
Seeing that I was awake, Zhao Mingkun smiled slightly and replied, "You've been out for about a day. As for where we are, you don't need to know."
“What's going on with Juan Juan?” I continued to ask.
“Don't worry, your fiancée is fine,” Zhao Mingkun turned around and said to me. “After all this time, we finally caught you.”
“What do you want?” I demanded.
Zhao Mingkun shrugged and replied, “Someone wants to see you.”
“Who?” I inquired.
“You'll know when you meet them. Come with me,” Zhao Mingkun said.
I stood up and realized my right foot was in a cast, with crutches beside me. It must have been done by the Heavenly Domain Organization while I was unconscious. I nodded and followed Zhao Mingkun out. We walked through what felt like an underground warehouse. After a while, Zhao Mingkun pushed open a door and said, “The person inside wants to see you. Go on in.”
With that, Zhao Mingkun opened the door, and as I stepped inside, he closed it behind me.
A man was standing with his back to me, and lying on the bed was Juan Juan.
“Who are you?” I asked.
The man heard my voice, shuddered slightly, then turned around. To my astonishment, it was none other than Captain Shi, who had been missing for five years.
I never expected to encounter Captain Shi here, on the territory of the Heavenly Domain Organization. A wave of sorrow washed over me; there were so many things I wanted to say to him. But when the words reached my lips, they vanished into silence.
In that moment, I understood why I had been unable to find Captain Shi. He was part of the Heavenly Domain Organization; otherwise, how could he be here? Zhao Mingkun had known that I was searching for Captain Shi after our multiple encounters. But why hadn’t Captain Shi met with me? Why was he avoiding me? Suddenly, everything clicked into place.
Captain Shi needed to see me alone, without my identity drawing attention. That’s why the Heavenly Domain Organization had been sending people to try and abduct me. Each time they attempted it, I managed to thwart their plans. It turned out that Captain Shi had been looking for me just as much as I had been searching for him.
But we are already people standing at two ends.
"It's been a long time, Kobayashi," Captain Shi spoke first, using my nickname.
"What is your relationship with the Heavenly Domain Organization?" I forced myself to suppress the complex emotions within me as I shouted at Captain Shi.
Captain Shi replied, "The Heavenly Domain Organization was established by me!"
"What?" I could hardly believe my ears. I had always thought of Captain Shi as a high-ranking member of the Heavenly Domain Organization, but I never imagined that it was actually founded by him.
"So, you were behind the theft of the mental documents, the kidnapping of Dezi's mother, conducting experiments, and the indiscriminate slaughter of innocent old people and children—all of this was done at your behest!" My body trembled uncontrollably. Captain Shi was my mentor; from the very first day I became a police officer, he taught me what it meant to be a good cop and what it meant to be a good detective.
But everything behind this was done by Captain Shi. How could this possibly be him?
"That's right, it was me," Captain Shi said.
I could no longer contain my inner turmoil. The person I respected most, the one I had always hoped to follow in his footsteps, had turned into someone like this. I let go of my cane and lunged at Captain Shi, landing a punch squarely on his face.
Captain Shi did not evade at all; he took my punch head-on.
Tears streamed down my face uncontrollably.
The most important people in my life, those who had given me direction—Captain Shi—how could he have become like this today?
Captain Shi's eyes reddened as he said, "I know you've been looking for me. But time and again, I've tried to bring you here to tell you about what has happened over the years. But you're too clever; I've failed each time. I have no other choice now. You are my best disciple, and there are some things I can only share with you in the end."
His voice was gentle, as if afraid of waking Juan Juan, who was still unconscious. Captain Shi slowly continued, "Five years ago, during our last case together, do you know why you couldn't catch the Killer?"
"Why?" I stared at Captain Shi, asking in a daze.
"Because Killer is actually me!" Captain Shi said casually. "The real culprit you and Wang Gang saw was just a shadow. The person you killed was merely a scapegoat I found. Unfortunately, Wang Gang discovered my secret in the end. He was afraid you would break down and came to find me alone."
"What happened to Brother Wang Gang?" I asked.
Captain Shi shrugged, a look of disdain on his face. "I killed him and then threw him into the sea to feed the fish."
At this point, Captain Shi even spoke with a hint of madness, saying, "Who told him to hope for my confession? Who told him to try to stop me?"
"You've changed!" I leaned against the door, coldly stating. "You've changed! You're not my master anymore, not the Shi Huacheng who taught me how to shoot five years ago, not the one who told me what kind of people the police really are... How did you become so cold-blooded?"
"People change!"
