It was a main street running east to west, and right in front of the large shopping mall stood Ye Kai in an open area. A short distance ahead was a bustling roundabout, with various cars almost never stopping.
The only pedestrian bridge was just behind the Bald Man.
Ye Kai's eyes twitched; was he trying to catch him off guard? He stomped his foot in frustration, gritted his teeth, and quickly turned to walk into the mall.
Once inside, he headed straight for the escalator without hesitation. It was only at this moment that he slightly relaxed his expression, though he remained vigilant, scanning his surroundings.
He felt as if every shadow could be a threat.
He couldn't shake the feeling that at any moment, someone might appear with a dagger or something similar, ready to strike.
He quickly glanced up and to the left; on the second floor, there were a few girls from the Shamate tribe chatting away on their phones. To his right, two elderly people sat on a bench…
Suddenly, he lowered his head quickly, covering his forehead with his right hand, and hurried up to the second floor. Without hesitation, he turned toward a Brand Clothing Store.
Inside were not only various casual outfits but also hats and shoes.
Ye Kai ignored the enthusiastic salesgirl, picked out a few items, and went straight to pay. The entire process took less than five seconds; it was likely the cashier had never seen someone like him before.
However, time was too tight; he had no time to flirt with girls, even though the cashier was quite talented—she could accurately state the total amount with just one glance.
Just as he finished paying, the Bald Man was about to step onto this floor.
There was no need for a receipt; Ye Kai grabbed the bag and swiftly slipped past the side of the store. At the last moment, he turned back and smiled meaningfully: “God, scan for individuals carrying dangerous weapons within a ten-meter radius.”
“Divine System at your service, Lord God. Scanning for individuals carrying dangerous weapons within a ten-meter radius: none detected.”
Ye Kai understood that now was not the time to conserve energy. He quickly issued another command: “God, from this moment on, scan every thirty seconds within a ten-meter radius for one second each time.”
“Lord God has confirmed that every thirty seconds, a scan will be conducted with a radius of ten meters, lasting one second each time.”
For this ridiculous System known as God, he had been telling himself that as long as he could get through this period and collect enough energy, he would be able to rise quickly and no longer suffer like this.
As long as that Intelligent Lifeform auxiliary component could be activated, he wouldn’t have to issue orders so painstakingly.
“Phew!”
Ye Kai was feeling a bit exhausted. In order to avoid potential dangers, he had lost track of how many shops he had passed. Whenever he spotted a shop with side doors, he would go in, using System Space to grab some clothes, shoes, and hats.
Finally, he smiled because he saw the restroom sign.
But suddenly…
“Warning: Lord God, there is an individual with a dangerous weapon located three meters ahead behind the wall. Quantity: 1.”
What to do?
How could these people guess that he would hide in the restroom?
And what were the odds they would happen to hide here?
Suddenly, Ye Kai cursed under his breath and turned around, only to find that twenty meters behind him, the Bald Man was still firmly locked onto him, striding forward.
I bought a watch last year; this must be what they mean by being caught between a wolf and a tiger! He was truly about to become a sitting duck!!!
“God, what should I do!!!”
Swallowing hard, beads of sweat began to form on his forehead. Ye Kai was so nervous that his heart felt like it was about to leap out of his throat.
“Lord God, given that your life is under deadly threat, the Divine System has determined that you fully meet the conditions to trigger the highest level of protection. The Divine System will forcibly activate the energy replenishment program component in three seconds, consuming all Electric Energy within a radius of five hundred meters around you.”
“Ding!…”
“Ding!…”
“Ding! 1… Forced consumption activated…”
“Boom!”
Suddenly, an invisible wave surged from Ye Kai’s body, causing all electrical devices within a five-hundred-meter radius of the corridor to lose power, triggering a series of short circuits that burned out many appliances.
“Ahhh!…”
A chorus of sharp, high-pitched screams erupted, turning the vast shopping mall upside down in an instant.
The piercing cries made Ye Kai frown slightly.
However, the completely dark environment did not trouble him at all; on the contrary, everything was very clear in his sight, as if he were watching an old black-and-white movie.
“Energy Shield, activate!”
With a cold smile playing on his lips, he had just drawn his USP Tactical Pistol when he saw the Bald Giant crash through the glass of a nearby shop and disappear.
Ye Kai thought for a moment; this place was unsafe. Moreover, if he fired a shot, it would likely cause even greater chaos. Not to mention that by now, the fire department and even the police were probably preparing to move!
After scanning once more, he realized that even the guy in the restroom behind him had already retreated.
He wasn’t truly ruthless; otherwise, he would have taken this opportunity to rush forward and shoot at the Bald Giant.
In just a short while, the chaos in the mall grew louder, and even Ye Kai could hear numerous cries for help.
To save or not to save!!!
Perhaps someone was injured, perhaps there had been a stampede, perhaps there were already casualties, perhaps...
What should he do?
Ye Kai felt an overwhelming urge to shout in frustration. This was ridiculous; the divine had forcibly activated some energy absorption program to save him, causing such a massive uproar.
Should he take responsibility for this situation?
Maybe saving one or two people would ease his conscience a bit?
He had no answers to these questions swirling in his mind.
Cursing under his breath, he quickly stripped off his clothes and shoes, changing into a new outfit in haste. With a face full of conflict and anger, he sprinted forward. As he passed by the shop where the bald man had disappeared, he had the divine scan it; that guy was indeed no longer there.
"Who would have thought? Finally getting a chance to be a hero, yet the irony is that I’m the source of this chaos!" Ye Kai felt a deep reluctance; he wanted nothing more than to leave this place, even if it meant returning to that uncertain refuge, it would still be better than staying here.
But he couldn’t control himself and ran straight towards an elderly couple sitting by a trash bin. "Old man, are you okay?" Ye Kai stopped abruptly and crouched down to ask the old man, "Are you hurt anywhere?"
"Young man, you..." The old woman suddenly looked up.
"Bang!"
At that moment, a powerful force kicked him away, sending him tumbling to the ground and sliding several meters.
Ye Kai was stunned.
An old man, one who seemed to be in his sixties, unexpectedly kicked him away. If he hadn't activated the Energy Shield beforehand, that single kick would have left him weak for a while.
Almost simultaneously, the old woman also jumped up and lunged at him. Ye Kai's pupils constricted as he watched the old man leap three to four meters while wielding two daggers. Instinctively, he exerted force from his waist and flipped backward.
When he crouched down again, he looked over and, in a daze, saw the old man who had kicked him now standing up. Leaning forward, he charged after the old woman, rushing toward Ye Kai.
The speed and power displayed were not something a sixty-year-old should possess!
That fierce posture and the cold gaze filled with murderous intent made Ye Kai doubt whether he had crossed into another world; how had this place become so incomprehensible to him?
Save someone!
Assassinate!
Disguise!
Good, good, good!!!
