After several calls, Rao Jie still didn't pick up, nor did she deliberately hang up.
In the end, Wu Rong, feeling helpless, sent her a message.
"Where have you been? I want to talk to you again about what just happened."
Rao Jie felt her mood sour again. What more was there to say? Hadn't they made everything clear just moments ago? Yet, despite her thoughts, she sensed there were many things left unsaid. She truly didn't want to leave while their relationship was in such a bad state. Moving out was necessary, but should she have one last proper conversation before doing so?
Rao Jie hesitated until she reached the school gate and finally replied, "I have something to do at school. Let's talk when I get back."
Wu Rong breathed a sigh of relief upon receiving her message; as long as she was willing to talk, that was enough. However, Rao Jie's next message made him anxious again.
"I'm moving out tonight. Sorry for the trouble during this time."
Unable to hold back any longer, Wu Rong grabbed his car keys and rushed out.
...
Rao Jie encountered an issue with some materials that needed to be filled out and had to be reorganized for submission. Today was the last chance before the school office closed, which is why the class monitor urgently sought her out. After finally getting everything sorted, Rao Jie hurriedly submitted the documents.
But as she turned around a counter, she spotted Jiang Chuchu not far away, also bent over filling out forms. The class monitor, seeing that Rao Jie had noticed her, awkwardly said, "I know you don't want to see her, so I didn't mention that her documents also had issues. That's why I asked her to come over. It seems like this is the first time she's been at school in a long while; I wonder how she's been since then."
Rao Jie glanced at Jiang Chuchu and noticed her gaunt figure and pale complexion tinged with a hint of green. She had heavy dark circles under her eyes and a somewhat vacant expression—clearly not doing well at all. The last incident had ultimately left Rao Jie feeling defeated by Jiang Chuchu, so she harbored no thoughts about her anymore; she just wanted to avoid seeing her for the rest of her life.
"Class monitor, I'm leaving," Rao Jie said as she greeted the class monitor and attempted to walk away. The class monitor also wanted to avoid any encounter between the two and waved her off.
However, just as Rao Jie stepped out of the office hall and exited the building, Jiang Chuchu chased after her.
"Rao Jie!"
"Rao Jie!" Jiang Chuchu called out from behind, but Rao Jie pretended not to hear and quickened her pace.
However, Jiang Chuchu managed to run ahead and block her path. Rao Jie no longer had any friendly expression for Jiang Chuchu.
"What do you want?"
"I have something I want to say to you."
Rao Jie frowned. "We don't have anything left to talk about."
Jiang Chuchu's expression turned a bit sorrowful. "Since we might not have the chance to meet again, let's treat this as our last conversation!"
Rao Jie found her words somewhat strange, but seeing that Jiang Chuchu was insistent on not letting her leave, she figured there was no harm in listening.
So she agreed.
A forced smile appeared on Jiang Chuchu's face, looking somewhat eerie. She pointed to a large recreational area in front of the office building, which was the most beautiful part of the school. The garden was exquisitely designed, making it a perfect spot for students to take evening strolls and relax.
There were stone paths, cobblestone walkways, wooden bridges, and a small lake. In summer, the lake would be covered with blooming lotus flowers, but now it was winter. On a cold day like today, a thin layer of broken ice formed on the surface, beneath which fish could occasionally be seen swimming. Trees lined the edge of the lake, adding to the serene atmosphere.
