Beasts! They are truly beasts!
A group of six men and four women tortured a man to death using extremely cruel methods. Even in the face of the victim's desperate pleas, they remained as indifferent as cold-blooded animals, continuing to torment him repeatedly, even more frantically.
Date: October 23, 2009.
Location: Jinan, Shandong.
That night, a bloodied man arrived at the Pingyin County Public Security Bureau, visibly tense and trembling with fear.
After calming down for a while, he recounted that around 3 AM on the 23rd, after singing at a KTV with a few friends, he had been driving them home one by one.
When his car stopped near his friend Zhang Ming's house, several young people holding sticks suddenly emerged from two parked cars and began to beat him and Zhang mercilessly.
By the time he realized what was happening, the blows were raining down on him like hail, and he felt himself getting knocked out. In a daze, he was lifted by two people.
He didn't know how long it had been when he woke up to find himself in the trunk of a car. Clearly, he had been kidnapped. Instinctively, he reached into his pocket and found his phone still there, trying to call for help.
To his dismay, just as he dialed, the phone died. At that moment, all he could think about was how to escape. After some thought, he felt around for the trunk lock and desperately began to pry it open until he finally managed to unlock it.
Fearing discovery, he didn’t fully open the trunk lid but only created a small gap.
Peering outside, he saw that the car was speeding along. Ignoring the speed, all he wanted was to jump out and escape. After confirming that no cars were following them, he gritted his teeth and leaped out. He didn’t know how many times he rolled upon hitting the ground; feeling dizzy and in pain, he didn’t care about anything else but ran for his life.
He soon spotted a gas station and ran straight toward it, hoping to ask someone where he was. However, he was afraid that the group would find him if they realized he was there, so he could only hide in the gas station for the night.
When dawn broke and it felt safe, he discovered that he had reached Feicheng. He then managed to escape back to Pingyin, but fearing recognition during the day, he could only wait until nightfall to report to the police.
Upon receiving the report, the police rushed to the scene and conducted an investigation. They found the area in disarray and only discovered a baseball bat abandoned by one of the suspects. Aside from that, there were no valuable clues at the scene.
The police speculated that these suspects must have devised a meticulous plan before committing the crime, specifically targeting their victims.
During subsequent interviews, the police learned that Lu, the person who reported the incident, had a wide social circle but rarely made enemies. Their inquiries did not yield any valuable leads.
The police then questioned Lu again about any potential suspects in this assault case. After thinking for a long time, Lu couldn't come up with anyone who might have been responsible.
However, Lu recalled that when he dropped Zhang off around 3 AM, there was no one at Zhang's doorstep; those people suddenly emerged from two cars.
One was a light-colored vehicle and the other a black one; neither had license plates visible. Lu didn’t pay attention to what kind of cars they were but saw five or six men get out of them, along with a few women.
It was too dark at that time to see their faces clearly, and this was all he knew.
At this point, Lu's black Buick sedan was nowhere to be found, and the kidnapped Zhang's fate remained uncertain. The situation was urgent. Consequently, the police established a special task force named 1023.
Based on the clues provided by Lu, the police analyzed the case and planned their next steps. They reviewed thousands of surveillance videos from various intersections and finally uncovered an important lead.
Around 3:03 AM on that day, at a monitoring checkpoint on the provincial road from Pingyin to Feicheng, the police identified two suspicious vehicles.
A light-colored sedan and a black sedan appeared simultaneously on the surveillance footage. One of the vehicles, an unregistered black Buick, bore a striking resemblance to the car of the person who reported the incident, while the other was a Roewe sedan.
Based on this crucial lead, the police conducted a thorough search in Feicheng City and Tai'an City.
At that moment, the person who reported the incident provided another important clue. According to Lu, he recalled a significant detail from the time of the incident.
"We had just parked when a group of people suddenly approached us. They immediately asked who Zhang Ming was. I didn’t know what was happening and didn’t dare to say anything. Then suddenly, a woman from their group pointed at Zhang Ming and said, 'That's him.' Without saying anything else, they started beating Zhang Ming severely. He is quite sturdy, but before long, he was knocked down. I had never seen anything like it; I was so scared that I thought about running away, but then they turned and started hitting me."
It was clear that these individuals were after Zhang. But who was this woman who specifically called for him? What was her relationship with Zhang?
Following this lead, the police focused their investigation on Zhang Ming, particularly looking into his friends. By this time, 24 hours had passed since Zhang Ming went missing, and his family had not received any ransom calls from kidnappers.
The police speculated that this was not a simple kidnapping case. The scene indicated that the suspects had come prepared; they had weapons ready and immediately attacked Zhang with great ferocity.
The police believed that Zhang's chances of survival were slim at this point, but they did not give up on searching for him.
Using clues from the surveillance footage, the police began to check all light-colored Roewe vehicles in Feicheng City and Tai'an City. However, after two days and over 100 vehicles checked without any leads, one particular vehicle caught their attention.
At a taxi company in Feicheng City, a silver-gray Roewe sedan had been rented out two months ago to someone named Li Shan from the old district of Feicheng City but had yet to be returned.
After receiving this important lead, the police retrieved Li Shan's information and showed his photo to Lu for identification. Upon seeing it, Lu immediately recognized Li Shan as the suspect.
Li Shan was from Feicheng City and had taken over a small KTV three months ago.
According to the investigation, Li Shan did not know Zhang, who lived in Pingyin, and there was no financial connection between them. When the police arrived at Li Shan's home to gather information, they learned that he had not returned home for a long time, and several young men from the same village were also missing, along with Li Shan's girlfriend, Wang.
Subsequently, the police showed the collected photos of the missing persons to Lu for identification. Lu immediately recognized Wang as one of the suspects who had assaulted Zhang that day.
Through their investigation, the police discovered that Wang was also from Feicheng City and had previously been Zhang's girlfriend. They had met a year ago and had dated for a while, leading the police to determine the identity of the suspect.
The police then found surveillance footage on the highway showing that Li Shan and the others had driven away from Shandong, heading south. The special investigation team followed the highway surveillance videos all the way to Fuyang, Zhejiang, where the suspect vehicle disappeared without a trace.
In response, the police speculated two possibilities: one was that the vehicle had exited the highway and continued fleeing south; the other possibility was that the suspect was hiding within Fuyang City at that moment.
The police then launched an investigation in Fuyang City and quickly discovered traces of the suspects at a local small hotel. With cooperation from the Zhejiang police, they apprehended a criminal gang consisting of six men and four women, totaling ten individuals.
According to suspect Zhao's confession, Zhang had already been murdered, and Lu's Buick car had been destroyed by fire. Zhao then pointed out the location where the car was burned.
Zhao stated that initially, Li Shan drove the car to that location and set it on fire. He then identified the scene where Zhang was killed. The body was found not far from the burned vehicle in a cable well. When the police retrieved the body, a gruesome sight awaited them.
Zhao recounted that after dragging Zhang out of the car, they beat him until he lost consciousness. They then poured gasoline over him and ignited it. At this point, Zhang had regained consciousness and desperately pleaded for his life.
But no one listened; they pushed Zhang into the cable well and threw stones at him. When they realized he was still alive, they pulled him back up and beat him again before leaving. Finally, they disposed of the murder weapon in three different locations.
Thus, the kidnapping case in Pingyin, Jinan was successfully solved, and this criminal gang led by Li Shan would ultimately face legal consequences for their actions.
