Rao Jie felt a bit embarrassed, but still nodded and said, "Yes, we are already dating... no, we are living together now. I’m currently staying at Wu Xin's place. Our relationship is very stable, and there’s nothing going on with Bao Ming. Bao Ming is yours. So let’s go find Bao Ming together; I will clarify everything with him."
After speaking, Rao Jie tried to approach Jiang Chuchu, who unconsciously stepped back, her body swaying unsteadily. Rao Jie was scared but still reached out firmly, saying, "Jiang Chuchu, the past is the past. We won’t hold grudges anymore. I’ll take you to find Bao Ming!"
Rao Jie had gotten quite close now and finally grabbed Jiang Chuchu's arm, who in turn grasped her hand back. Rao Jie sighed in relief, feeling that she could pull her away from the edge of danger in the next moment.
However, Rao Jie never expected that a sudden change would occur.
"Jiang Chuchu, what are you doing? I told you not to cling to Jie Jie!"
Out of nowhere, Bao Ming rushed over and shouted at Jiang Chuchu. The calm Jiang Chuchu suddenly looked furious; she raised her head and glared at Rao Jie with piercing eyes.
At that moment, Rao Jie didn’t sense any danger; she merely looked angrily at Bao Ming as he ran toward them, just about to speak when she suddenly felt as if something was pulling her back.
Rao Jie froze; time seemed to slow down in an instant as she turned to look. Jiang Chuchu's expression was wild.
"You were indeed lying to me! You’re all deceiving me! You two are in cahoots! Why should I and the child die? The one who should die is you! If you were gone, everything would be better!"
Rao Jie felt a chill run down her spine; her heart raced in panic. Before she could react, Jiang Chuchu turned and yanked Rao Jie forward.
Caught off guard by Jiang Chuchu's sudden pull, it was too late for Rao Jie to break free. In the next moment, due to the inertia from Jiang Chuchu's tugging, Rao Jie was thrown directly into the icy lake.
A wave of coldness mixed with suffocating water engulfed her; Rao Jie’s world plunged into darkness almost instantly. Unable to swim, she flailed her arms and legs in panic for a few moments before struggling to surface again but sank back down without any technique.
Her heavy winter clothes soaked up water and became unbearably heavy; her body grew stiff from the cold, and gradually even her movements slowed down.
Desperate and swallowing mouthfuls of water, fear of death ignited her instincts as she fought hard to swim upward. After what felt like an eternity, she finally broke through to the surface and wanted to scream for help but swallowed more icy lake water instead—she felt as if she had swallowed ice itself—and her throat froze up so much that no sound came out.
But she saw them—Jiang Chuchu and Bao Ming standing on the shore.
Jiang Chuchu remained expressionless, even somewhat pleased.
Bao Ming dared not approach the scene. Perhaps if he took a step forward, he could reach Rao Jie, who was not far from the shore. But he didn't move; he couldn't swim and feared being pulled under. All he could do was call out her name in panic, shouting for help.
Rao Jie was sinking once more, overwhelmed by the fear of death. Gradually, she gave up hope and ceased her struggles. She felt so scared and wanted to cry, her vision blurring.
Just as her ears were submerged in the icy lake water, she thought she heard a voice that seemed unreal. It was impossible to tell whose voice it was, but the tone felt too familiar. That fierce tone... was it Wu Rong?
Rao Jie sank straight down, never to resurface, as if she had sunk to the very bottom.
