Looking at the eerie smile of the Guardian, my heart leaped into my throat, and I thought to myself, this is a bit twisted. I repeated my earlier question, my emotions running high. 0

"What have you done with Soybean's body?" 0

The Guardian suddenly stopped smiling and said to me, "Did Soybean not tell you?" 0

I shook my head. 0

At that moment, the atmosphere here became incredibly oppressive. In the pitch-black surroundings, there was only a single oil lamp flickering weakly, casting trembling shadows everywhere. I took a deep breath, forcing myself to calm down before asking, "Where is Soybean's body?" After I spoke, I waited for the old temple guardian to respond. 0

What I had not done, this old man had somehow managed to do. 0

The Guardian said that Soybean's body... 0

Before he could finish his sentence, a piercing scream echoed from outside. In the stillness of the environment, it felt particularly suffocating; this scream undoubtedly added a layer of tension to the already terrifying atmosphere. 0

I could hardly contain myself because this was the second scream I had heard. 0

Yet the Guardian had not finished speaking, and an invisible pressure was mounting, making me extremely anxious. 0

"Just say it!" I finally urged the Temple Guardian to hurry up. 0

But this Guardian seemed to enjoy dragging things out. I was growing increasingly impatient while he took his time. As I waited for him, beads of sweat began to form on my forehead. 0

It felt like this old man was stalling for time, and at that moment, something had clearly happened outside. 0

"If you don't speak, I'm leaving," I declared, preparing to turn and walk away. The third scream rang out again; my mental defenses had crumbled. I wanted to go outside and see what was happening. 0

Just as I was about to turn around, the old temple guardian spoke up with something that made me want to curse him out. He said, "Saning, right now Soybean's body is already on your bed." 0

At first, I was taken aback, frozen for a few seconds. Once I regained my senses, I cursed, "Damn it," and looked at the old man. "You really put Soybean's corpse on my bed!" 0

"What do you think?" he replied in a hoarse, unpleasant voice. 0

"Damn it," I muttered, feeling frustrated. 0

"Are you not going back to check? If something else happens later, it's not something I can manage." 0

The Temple Guardian laughed ominously. As I watched him laugh, my anger boiled over, and I flipped his table before storming out. He only laughed harder. 0

As I exited the temple, Zhang Dexin was nowhere to be found. I called out a few times, but there was no response. I circled the temple once more, but still no one was around. 0

I shouted again. 0

Just then, my phone rang; it was that woman's voice. "Hurry home." 0

A shiver ran through me. Soybean's corpse was still on my bed! And Zhang Dexin, known as Zhang the Fortune Teller, should be fine. 0

I ran back along the path I had come from, surrounded by thick darkness and silence—nothing but the sound of wind as I sprinted. 0

My heart raced with anxiety. What did the Guardian want by placing Soybean's corpse on my bed? 0

Thoughts swirled in my mind, but clarity eluded me. 0

About fifteen minutes later, I arrived home. The way back had been uneventful. It was around a quarter past ten when I burst into the house. There was no one home. I headed straight to my bedroom, turned on the light, and looked at the bed. 0

To my shock, there indeed lay a corpse wrapped in my blanket, a faint smell of decay wafting through the air. I froze for a moment before approaching it; the body showed no signs of decomposition. 0

But as I focused closely, I realized it wasn't Soybean... it was Jianjian. My heart sank completely; could Jianjian really be dead? 0

My breathing quickened as I stepped closer to check Jianjian's breath. 0

I discovered that there was still breathing. The weight on my heart immediately lifted, and at that moment, I didn't care why the old man guarding the temple had deceived me. I pushed Jianjian awake. 0

Jianjian was alive, but I couldn't understand why there was a smell of decay coming from her body. 0

I nudged her a few times, but she didn't wake up. Then I pinched her philtrum, and finally, she opened her eyes wide, as if trying to see something clearly all at once. 0

I looked at Jianjian and asked, "How did you end up here?" 0

Her emotions seemed unstable. Upon hearing my question, she turned her gaze to me and said, "I saw a ghost, and there was a corpse, but now the corpse is gone, and so is the ghost." 0

Listening to her words, I immediately asked, "Where did the corpse go?" 0

Jianjian shook her head, looking bewildered. Then she said to me, "Saning, I really saw a ghost." 0

Right now, my thoughts were not on the ghost but on Soybean's corpse. 0

However, I was skeptical about Jianjian being able to see ghosts. Unless a ghost willingly revealed itself, it was impossible for ordinary people like us to see one. 0

Unless Jianjian had a natural ability known as Yin-Yang Eyes that allowed her to see ghosts. 0

Where's the corpse? I murmured to myself. 0

But I knew that I would definitely not be able to find the corpse because if someone intentionally wanted to hide it away, I would never locate it. 0

I asked Jianjian, "How did you get to my house? And what did the corpse look like?" 0

Jianjian fixed her gaze on me and said, "The corpse was a child’s, and the one who took it away looked like an old man. He was a ghost." Her emotions at that moment were quite strange. 0

"Are you okay?" I asked. 0

Jianjian clearly showed no interest in her own safety; she was only focused on the ghost. "Saning, can you see ghosts too?" 0

I let Jianjian get up first. 0

I knew I was a step late, so I tried to calm my emotions. I figured Fatty must have been going crazy looking for someone by now! 0

I called Fatty, and when he arrived at my house, he was indeed panting heavily, clearly exhausted. 0

The first thing he blurted out was, "Jianjian, are you okay? Are you alright?" 0

I watched from the side, thinking that Fatty would have to pay for his sins later. Jianjian was acting like a lunatic, always talking about seeing ghosts, which I simply couldn't understand. 0

But I didn't know if what Jianjian had said earlier was true or not. She claimed to have seen an old man taking Soybean's body away, which meant that the old man from the temple hadn't lied to me; I had just arrived too late. 0

As I pondered this, another thought struck me. I quickly urged Fatty to call his Uncle; we still didn't know how he was doing. 0

Fatty soon made a call to Zhang Dexin. 0

However, no one answered the phone. I thought to myself, could something have happened to him? Things had been quite unsettled in the village lately! I wasn't sure if Zhang Dexin's reputation as Zhang the Fortune Teller was genuine or not; after all, there were too many con artists in society today. 0

I asked Fatty if his Uncle could handle any supernatural occurrences if he encountered them. 0

Fatty seemed indifferent about Zhang Dexin's situation and simply said that he couldn't solve anything; what kind of half-baked fortune teller was he? 0

Before long, it was already eleven o'clock. 0

I stepped outside, but Jianjian kept following me. This was all Fatty's fault for trying to impress girls by claiming that I could see ghosts! 0

Now Jianjian was convinced that I could see ghosts and wouldn't leave me alone. 0

Fatty had no choice but to follow Jianjian around while she trailed after me, creating a vicious cycle. 0

I told her countless times that I truly couldn't see ghosts, but Jianjian refused to believe me. She insisted that I was strange and would definitely see a ghost. 0

I couldn't explain it, so I decided not to explain at all. 0

Jianjian even brought up how her mother passed away ten years ago... 0

But my mind was racing, and I had no time to listen to her. It was nearly a quarter past ten, and there was still no sign of Zhang Dexin, while Soybean's body was nowhere to be found. 0

I was torn about whether to make another trip to the temple to ask the Temple Guardian where the body had gone or when it had been placed on my bed. 0

I was in turmoil, but time was ticking closer to midnight. 0

Just then, fireworks suddenly erupted in the night sky, illuminating the darkness with their brilliance. 0

Jianjian looked up at the fireworks and murmured, "Mom..." 0

Finally, I made up my mind; I was going to visit the dilapidated temple. However, Jianjian insisted on following me. I told them to stay home. 0

But Jianjian refused, and of course, Zhang Pangzi wouldn't agree either. 0

Just then, Zhang Dexin returned... 0
