I looked at Jianjian, who appeared somewhat anxious, and it made me think that Wang Wei had circled around behind me again. I turned my head to look, but there was nothing there.
It was just Miaotiao returning, wagging her tail at me.
I picked up the noodles, and they let out a couple of low whines.
Meanwhile, Jianjian remained in her original position.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
Suddenly, Jianjian slowly lowered her hands and then burst into tears, hugging her head. I thought to myself that this girl must have been scared out of her wits. She was already timid by nature, and being able to see ghosts only made it harder for her not to be frightened!
I tried to comfort Jianjian with a few words, but she continued to sob quietly.
Thinking that crying might help her feel better, I decided to remain silent and focused my gaze on the operating room door. Before long, Wang Wei emerged from the room. As soon as he stepped out, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me away from the operating room. At that moment, the noodles lunged toward Wang Wei, but he unceremoniously swatted them down to the ground.
He dragged me outside, looking extremely tense.
"What’s going on?"
"Get out. We need to leave now." His voice sounded suddenly frantic and urgent as he pulled me toward the hospital entrance. The lobby was bustling with people at that moment. He paused for a glance before pulling me further outside, just as we were about to step out of the hospital.
Suddenly, Wang Wei seemed to see a "ghost." He stumbled back a few steps and fell to the ground. I was also pulled backward and stumbled a few steps as well.
I was just about to speak up.
Wang Wei let out a strange cry and then ran away. His hurried escape made it seem as if he had been frightened by something. I watched his retreating figure.
After a few steps, Jianjian suddenly appeared in front of me. She told me not to chase after him, saying that Zhang, the fat guy, had already woken up.
I felt uneasy because Wang Wei's reaction had been too abnormal.
I glanced at Jianjian; her tear stains had dried. Upon hearing that Zhang was awake, I lost the urge to pursue Wang Wei.
It turned out that Zhang had come out of surgery and was in the same hospital room where I had stayed during my last two visits.
This room was truly unlucky! I had intended to get Zhang transferred to another room, but the nurse informed me that there were no available rooms, and besides, Zhang's current condition wasn't suitable for a transfer.
I took a deep breath. Although I didn't know what Wang Wei had seen earlier, it wouldn't be good if he came looking for trouble again.
At this point, it was just past nine in the evening.
Around eleven o'clock, Zhang woke up. I asked him how he was feeling.
Zhang said he was fine and felt much better, but mentioned that he didn't know why his chest felt tight. Damn, what bad luck he had. Jianjian sat down beside him.
When Zhang saw the tear stains on Jianjian's face, I was surprised to see a hint of tenderness on his plump face.
I was momentarily taken aback.
Then I said to Zhang, "Fatty, can you switch to another room? Don't you have connections here?"
I knew this room could accommodate two beds, but one of them was broken and the hospital hadn't fixed it yet. So it effectively functioned as a single room while still costing the price of a private room.
Zhang Pangzi glanced at me after I finished speaking and said, "Saning, what do you know? It's only because I have connections that I can stay in this hospital room. Otherwise, do you think just anyone can get in here?"
I had personally experienced the haunting in this room, and if Zhang Pangzi claimed to have connections, they were surely with enemies who allowed him to stay here.
I asked Zhang Pangzi, "What kind of connections do you have at the hospital?"
He replied, "It's with a director of this hospital. You wouldn't know him anyway."
Jianjian still looked reserved, her gaze intentionally or unintentionally landing on me. Suddenly, I recalled what happened last night; since Zhang Pangzi was here now, I decided to be straightforward.
So I asked, "Jianjian, you called me last night, right?" Last night, Jianjian had hung up the phone while sobbing.
Jianjian looked at me; she seemed about to nod but quickly shook her head instead.
"You didn't call me?"
She shook her head again but then nodded shortly after.
I sensed something was off, but Jianjian's complexion was really poor tonight. Perhaps she had been frightened by Wang Wei earlier! So I decided not to press further.
This hospital room felt eerie. After staying here twice, I had already attracted Wang Wei's attention. I thought to myself that he must be Zhang Pangzi's enemy.
I let out a sigh of relief that Wang Wei hadn't left the hospital. Although I didn't know what would happen if he did, I imagined it couldn't be anything good.
And then there was that girl named Lin Ke'er; she must be the one who called me. She had always contacted me through the phone before, but this time she appeared in person. Why was that? I just couldn't figure it out.
Zhang Pangzi said, "Saning, you've been overly suspicious lately."
I glanced back at Zhang, who was still in his hospital bed. Outside, it was pitch black, and at that moment, my craving for a cigarette hit me. I told Zhang I was going to the restroom to smoke.
Every floor of the hospital had a restroom, and since Zhang's room was not far from it, I headed there. As I entered, I noticed someone else was already smoking.
I walked in, and the guy greeted me casually before we struck up a conversation. We chatted about everything from serious illnesses to minor ailments. After a few minutes, he finished his cigarette.
Just as I lit mine, he said to me, "Hey, make it quick. The energy in this hospital is heavy, and it's even worse in the restroom." With that, he left.
I took care of business and inhaled deeply. The smoke swirled under the fluorescent lights, but as I exhaled, an eerie feeling washed over me.
Perhaps it was the influence of that guy's words; I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching me. After all, Wang Wei had just been here, and I still felt a bit unsettled.
So, not wanting to linger any longer, I left the restroom before finishing my cigarette. In my haste, I bumped into someone on my way out. He looked rushed and somewhat off-kilter, but his appearance stuck in my mind.
A strange sensation crept over me; something felt wrong, but I couldn't pinpoint what it was.
I glanced around—almost midnight now—and returned to Zhang's room. He was smiling when he saw me and greeted me warmly.
I responded with a nod.
"Where's Jianjian?" I asked.
Zhang replied, "Jianjian went out with the nurse to handle some matters."
I didn't think much of it and sat down. Since Zhang had suffered a myocardial infarction but had no other health issues, we chatted idly for a while.
Just then, my phone buzzed. I looked at the message and saw it was from Jianjian. The text simply read: "Get out of the ward quickly."
I stared at the words, a chill running down my spine. I glanced at the chubby Zhang lying on the hospital bed, then back at the message. I remained composed.
At that moment, I was on edge, and to make matters worse, the Little Black Dog noodles I had bought were nowhere to be found. Zhang's face was as pale as a ghost.
He had even asked me to give him a cigarette while Jianjian was away.
I nodded in response, then slipped my phone into my pocket, pretending to pull out a cigarette. Without another word, I turned and dashed out of the hospital. It was already midnight, and the place felt emptier than before.
As I ran down the corridor, the hospital was eerily quiet; my footsteps echoed around me. I was panting heavily when an unsettling feeling washed over me—something was off about this hospital.
I replied to a text from Jianjian, and soon enough, she responded: "He is not Borlun."
A cold shiver crept up my back, chilling me to the bone. Suddenly, I felt a weight pressing down on me. I kept running, but it felt like I was trapped, as if I had encountered the Ghost Wall again.
Eventually, I found myself back at Zhang's room. Without hesitation, I continued running. After two more laps, I stood once again in front of Zhang's ward.
It dawned on me that I had definitely fallen into a trap—again by Wang Wei. I couldn't help but wonder how Zhang and Jianjian were doing now; the last message seemed to have vanished into thin air.
At that moment, anxiety gripped me tightly.
Just then, a hand suddenly appeared behind me...
