I was about to say something, but Wang Wei had already run out. The commotion caused by this Relic incident was too great.
First, Wang Wei retrieved the Relic from the place where he died twenty years ago. Then, Zhang Dexin got his hands on a Relic that he had been plotting for decades. And Chen San might finally receive some kind of reward he has been longing for.
Ke'er also obtained a faceless Wandering Soul. Although I had only received these eyes a few days ago, I could already see many things I couldn't before.
However, I couldn't discern much more about that Wandering Soul; all I knew was that she was an unconscious Wandering Soul.
I wondered what Ke'er intended to do with that Wandering Soul.
And then there was the question of whether my Sarira could truly become a Revival Pearl. Holding two Relics in my hands made me feel excited; if the Relics were indeed as Wang Wei claimed, it would be wonderful.
If Ke'er could be revived, that would be even better.
Lost in thought, my gaze fell back on Chen San. What did Jianjian mean by her words to me? What was the difference between my eyes and Jianjian's?
Jianjian could naturally see ghosts, while Wang Wei said my eyes could see more than just ghosts. Yet, I hadn't seen what Jianjian had just seen.
Why was that? Was it because I hadn't yet adapted to these eyes?
Chen San harbored too many secrets.
I took a deep breath. Around seven in the morning, a voluptuous woman walked in outside, dressed very provocatively.
I stared at her for a few seconds, and after a moment, I cursed under my breath.
I lowered my voice and exclaimed, "Damn it, Wang Wei! Do you have some kind of special preference? Out of so many men, you choose a woman!"
Wang Wei flashed me a charming smile. Damn, any ordinary man would surely lose control.
"How about it, Saning? Do you like it?"
I was speechless.
If I only looked at her appearance, she would definitely be the type of girlfriend many men would want, but that was under the condition of ignorance, and I was well aware.
"Saning, what do you think of my new body?"
I felt a headache coming on. I said, "Wang Wei, you can't just swap this body out!" It was really awkward to look at.
Wang Wei suddenly said with a hint of grievance, "Saning, I don't want to either! Do you think every corpse is suitable for me? If only it were that easy! First, I need to find a body that resonates with my soul. Plus, I have to look for those that have no family to claim them. If I possess a body that has family, they'll definitely accuse me of corpse fraud. Sigh, Saning, do you think it's easy for me...?"
As Wang Wei lamented her difficulties, she leaned closer to me.
I took a step back as Wang Wei advanced toward me. Judging by her expression, she seemed intent on forcing the issue. Finally, I said, "Damn it, damn it! You’ve made your point! I'm really scared of you now."
Wang Wei didn’t let up and continued, "Saning, since you also think it's tough for me, help me get my body back."
Watching Wang Wei's luscious red lips move as she spoke, I felt my own physical safety threatened. In the end, I compromised and agreed to help her find her body.
Only then did Wang Wei leave me satisfied, murmuring something about how this body could probably only last two days.
I asked Wang Wei, "Do you know where your body is?"
She shook her head and seemed to grow a bit dejected.
I didn't continue to ask further. I said to Wang Wei, "Keep an eye on Chen San for me; I'm heading to work."
Wang Wei replied, "Go ahead. If you ask me, Saning, you shouldn't bother going to work either."
I retorted, "If I don't go to work, who's going to support me?"
Wang Wei shot me a flirtatious glance and said, "I'll take care of you!" Hearing that made my skin crawl, and I felt a bit nauseous.
"What's the matter, Saning?"
"Get lost." With that, I hurriedly left the hospital room. Relic was tucked in my pocket, occasionally stirring but not as violently as before.
Being alone in this city without any roots meant that if I didn't work, I'd have nowhere to stay and no food to eat. Unlike Zhang Pangzi, who was a local and could choose whether or not to go to work at will.
I arrived at the company, clocked in, and started my day at the computer. However, my mind was elsewhere; I couldn't help but wonder how Ke'er was doing.
My boss came over and scolded me for falling behind on my work. He warned that if I got hit by a car again, I shouldn't bother coming back.
Feeling down, I finished my shift, but at least tomorrow was the weekend.
Just as I stepped out of the office, I received a call from Jianjian. She said she was coming over to see me. I replied with a simple "Okay."
As I walked toward the bus stop, I suddenly felt surprised and taken aback. There stood a child by the pool, dressed just like yesterday—barefoot and drenched.
I halted in my tracks. The night was dark, with the dim yellow glow of the streetlights illuminating the scene. It had already been a day and a night; hadn't the child's mother come to take her home?
She was a little girl. As I approached her, something felt off; there were faint Light Spots around her. Instantly, I realized she was a ghost.
I called out to the little girl, and she looked up at me. Her face was pale and purple, her eyes sunken, and her lips were a dark blue—she looked like someone who had drowned.
I walked over and said directly to her, "Little girl, why are you still here?"
The girl appeared to be around four or five years old. She glanced at me and suddenly seemed to see a "ghost," quickly running away.
I called after her a few times, but she ignored me. I thought it was best to let it go; with so many Wandering Souls on this road, I couldn't possibly help them all.
Passersby stared at me as if I were crazy for calling out into the void.
I got on the bus and headed home. I wanted to know if Ke'er was back; I had properly placed the Wooden Box.
However, when I returned home, it was eerily quiet. It seemed Ke'er hadn't come back yet, which made me a bit worried.
At that moment, I heard a few "woof woof" sounds. Looking down, I saw Noodles. I hurriedly picked him up; I had almost forgotten about him these past couple of days.
I found some food for Noodles, and we sat together on a stool in the house.
Around a quarter past seven, Zhang Fatty and Jianjian arrived. Jianjian looked increasingly pale. I thought to myself that only by resolving the knot in Jianjian's heart would she start to feel better.
I still didn't understand how Zhang Fatty had developed feelings for Jianjian.
With Ke'er absent, my mind was elsewhere.
By eight o'clock, Wang Wei also came over. He said Chen San was still unconscious but that the doctor had assured him there was nothing serious, so he decided to drop by.
The room suddenly became lively, but I still felt like something was missing.
Sigh, because Ke'er is not here.
We went out to a barbecue stall and ate some food. While we were eating, I suddenly noticed that little girl standing not far from me.
I took a sip of my drink, and when I looked up again, the little girl was gone.
I was curious in my heart about why she was following me.
Wang Wei followed my gaze and asked, "Saning, what are you looking at?" I said I wasn't looking at anything and continued to focus on my food.
After finishing the meal, I couldn't help but ask Jianjian, "When does your mother usually show up?"
Jianjian's next words stunned me. She said, "She comes every time I fall asleep, and I'm always awakened by her grasping me."
I fell silent for a moment and asked, "Did you have some conflict with your mother?"
Jianjian didn't respond; her expression turned somewhat grim. I remembered that Zhang Fatty had said Jianjian's mother died ten years ago. So how did she die ten years ago? That should be the key point.
After all, if someone had been dead for ten years, they would either have gone to Yama's Hall or might have become an unconscious Wandering Soul. Yet Jianjian's mother hadn't; she had become an Evil Spirit. How much resentment must accumulate to linger in this world for ten years?
Moreover, she clung to her own daughter, threatening to kill her. I couldn't imagine how Jianjian had been living these days.
Jianjian seemed to be tangled in her thoughts for a long time before suddenly calling out to me, "Saning Brother." Her voice turned eerily cold as she said, "Saning Brother, my mother has been dead for ten years. Ten years ago, it was I who killed her..."
