From his eyes, I saw my own reflection. I saw those white eyes of mine; they were still there.
I had always thought that those white eyes existed only within my body, but now I saw them attached to my soul. Were they truly fused with me?
I waited for him to answer.
Instead, he simply said, "Those eyes are not given to you by me."
I was taken aback. I looked at him in confusion, but he offered no further explanation. Since he wouldn’t clarify, I had no choice but to fill in the gaps myself. The conclusion I reached was that I was born with these white eyes.
I asked him, "Is that true?"
He remained silent, so I took it as a confirmation. Damn it, how could I have gone over twenty years without any issues, only to suddenly become like this?
Moreover, that Evil Being had already taken my eyes. If what he took wasn’t my white eyes, then what was it? Were they my original eyes?
But even if they were my original eyes and had been taken away, wouldn’t that make things worse for me?
Damn it. No matter how I looked at it, I had suffered a great loss.
Of course, all of this was just my own analysis; he hadn’t provided me with any answers. Suddenly, he pointed to my body on the ground and then gestured in a direction.
"Leave this place."
I couldn’t help but ask, "What about my eyes?"
If I left now, my face would only have two dark holes where my eyes used to be.
He repeated, "Leave this place."
I understood that he meant for me to return to my body and then leave. But my eyes had already been taken away. Damn it, I wanted to ask him more questions, but then he vanished.
I felt a surge of anxiety. Damn it, this person was also someone who liked to keep secrets. I glanced at my body; even though I had lost my eyes, it was still my body.
Damn it, suddenly I heard the voice of the Evil Being again.
I thought that if I didn't run now, I might never get the chance. With that in mind, I wasted no time and my soul returned to my body. I quickly got out of bed, grabbed the White Lantern, and dashed outside.
It felt like my strength had returned. Zhang Pangzi and the Evil Being were both stunned.
At that moment, I had no eyes but I ran wildly, not daring to look back. Despite my blindness, I could still see somehow; I just kept my head down and ran.
That person didn’t dare to confront the Evil Being when he appeared. I thought to myself that I surely wasn’t a match for the Evil Being either. Was that person really killed by the Evil Being?
The more I thought about it, the more terrified I became. I finally escaped from that horrifying place and returned to the warehouse. Once inside, I shouted Ke'er’s name loudly, followed by Wang Wei and Chen San.
I quickly received a response.
I had come to this damn funeral to save Zhang Pangzi, but unexpectedly, he had put me in danger.
Not long after my voice faded, Ke'er quickly came to my side.
Wang Wei and Chen San were not far behind.
When Ke'er saw me, she opened her mouth to speak, but I interrupted her, saying, "Ke'er, let's talk after we leave here."
Wang Wei and Chen San looked surprised.
I urged them directly, "Run!"
Wang Wei had wanted to leave for a while now. Hearing me shout to escape, he immediately responded and said, "I'm familiar with this place; I know the way out."
With that, Wang Wei led us as we ran toward the exit.
However, after a few steps, Chen San suddenly stopped and called out to me, "Saning!" I turned back to look at him; even though my appearance might have been terrifying at that moment.
"Damn it," there were no eyes left, just two black holes. "Damn it," although it didn't hurt as much as before, it still really hurt!
I asked Chen San what was wrong.
He said, "Saning, you all go ahead. I can't leave yet." His tone seemed to carry a hint of disappointment.
Wang Wei, upon hearing Chen San's words, directly said to me, "Saning, don't worry about him. If he wants to court death, let him."
At that moment, Ke'er asked me, "Husband, who did this to you?"
I told Ke'er that I was fine. Then I asked Chen San why.
Chen San was being mysterious; I couldn't understand him. However, he mentioned having a way to obtain the Revival Pearl, so I didn't want him to die. I wanted to know why he refused to leave.
Earlier, he had asked me to save him, but now he was courting death himself.
But he had invited me to this funeral for a reason; he must have wanted to use me to lure out the Evil Being. They probably still held a Grudge!
Chen San clearly didn't want to tell me why; he just insisted that I leave first and that he was fine and someone would come for him later.
Wang Wei was getting anxious and kept urging me.
I cursed at Wang Wei, "Damn it, why are you rushing? Go ahead and reincarnate!"
"I'm not rushing; if we don't hurry, you really will need to reincarnate."
In the end, Chen San told me, "Don't worry. I won't die, but only you can save me."
"Damn it," he said something so baffling again that I didn't understand. So I decided not to think about it.
"Let's go quickly. Don't worry; I'll come find you."
"Damn it," Chen San really knew how to court death. But he wouldn't die; last time with that Dead Monk being so terrifying, he hadn't died then either. This time, I thought he wouldn't get into trouble either. Plus, I suspected he had reached some sort of agreement with that Dead Monk.
I took one last look at Chen San, finally no longer hesitating, and ran towards the door with Ke'er and Wang Wei.
Outside, the Twelve Eternal Lanterns had vanished, leaving only darkness.
As we stepped out, I heard the sound of water; it must have been the Moat flowing. It seemed that there were still people attending this so-called funeral.
Wang Wei's car was parked at the entrance. He helped me into the vehicle, but just as I settled in, I heard someone call out to me, "Saning Brother."
It had to be that Ugly Monster.
I urged Wang Wei to drive quickly. Glancing out the window, I suddenly thought I saw a shadow enter that warehouse; it looked like a Soul.
I hurriedly glanced at Ke'er beside me and felt relieved to see her still there.
However, Ke'er seemed different now; her spirit appeared more substantial. Wang Wei caught sight of my eyes in the rearview mirror and asked, "Saning, where did your eyes go?"
Ke'er reached out to wipe the blood off my face, her voice filled with concern as she asked, "Husband, does it hurt?" It really did hurt, but I told Ke'er that I was fine.
I said to her, "I'm okay; I can still see."
Upon hearing me say I could still see, Wang Wei couldn't help but remark, "Saning, I'm not mistaken; even with your eyes gouged out, you can still see."
"Damn it, stop talking nonsense! It hurts like hell; hurry up and take me to the hospital!"
Wang Wei retorted, "Did you not just say it didn't hurt?"
I was finally speechless in response to Wang Wei.
Ke'er chimed in, "Husband, I know you must be in a lot of pain, but Ke'er can't help you." She nearly broke into tears as she spoke.
If it weren't for Wang Wei driving at that moment, I would have definitely gone over and given him a good beating.
The car quickly left the industrial area. At this point, I was starting to calm down a bit. The fact remained that my eyes had been gouged out; even though my whites were still intact, I no longer had eyes.
I used to have a pair of white eyes, and I was afraid that Ke'er would be scared if she saw me. Now, I had no eyes left, just two black holes. Ke'er would probably be even more frightened.
I took a deep breath and couldn't help but frown.
Ke'er seemed to sense my emotions and said to me, "Husband, are you okay?"
I replied that I was fine, but my eyes... I said.
Ke'er responded, "Husband, I told you, no matter what you look like, I will never dislike you." Her voice was already tinged with tears as she insisted that I should never think like that again.
Wang Wei drove quickly; what should have taken an hour was done in just over forty minutes. Once I entered the hospital, I heard several screams. Clearly, my appearance had startled others.
It was just past three in the morning, and there were still people in the emergency room. Wang Wei called for a doctor, and soon one came over. Then I was taken into the operating room. After receiving anesthesia, I fell into a deep sleep.
After the surgery, when I woke up the next day, I realized I couldn't see anything at all. For a moment, I thought I had really gone blind. But when I touched my face and felt the white gauze, I finally relaxed. The surgery had only helped to treat my wounds; it wouldn't have a significant effect on my vision.
As soon as I opened my eyes, Wang Wei's voice reached me: "Saning, you're awake!"
Just as Wang Wei finished speaking, my phone rang...
