I only heard him ask me, "Saning, do you know who is buried here?"
At that moment, my mind was filled with thoughts of Third Uncle. Aside from Third Uncle, it was just me. I was fine, so it had to be Third Uncle. But then the Temple Guardian suddenly leaned in and whispered something in my ear.
He said, "Someone just like you is buried here."
Upon hearing those words, my heart sank. Someone like me? Could he be referring to that person, the one who gave me my eyes?
He had always existed in a spiritual state and never had a physical body. Was it possible that the body was buried here?
A wave of emotions surged within me as I felt utterly surprised. I had never known what kind of person this individual, who shared my pale eyes, truly was.
"Ritual Burial"? Did the Theater Troupe bring him here?
I increasingly felt that something was off; the more I tried to make sense of it, the more confused I became. I didn’t respond to the Temple Guardian. Instead, I glanced at him, wondering if he knew some secrets.
Chen San had once told me that he knew the secret of these eyes. Yet, he refused to share it with me.
Wang Wei naturally knew as well. Was it possible that his body was about to be found too?
I directly asked the Temple Guardian, "Do you know who he is?"
The Temple Guardian suddenly chuckled a few times but remained silent. Even though it was broad daylight and there was sunlight, I felt an eerie chill.
The secrets hidden within my eyes were far too many; of course, the person who possessed these eyes must have many secrets as well.
The Temple Guardian shook his head, his wrinkled face appearing somewhat frightening. The old man said, "Maybe tonight you'll find out."
"What does it matter?"
"Your eyes' secret, and the secret of your eyes now?"
I couldn't believe it; this old man was being cryptic again, and I didn't understand what he meant by the secrets of my eyes, especially since I didn't even have eyes at the moment.
Wang Wei and Jianjian, who were listening nearby, looked just as confused. But I knew Wang Wei was definitely hiding something from me. Just considering how Wang Wei had been terrified to death at the East City Ruined Temple, even if he had been rushed to the hospital for rescue after that scare, his teammates must have tampered with things. Sending Wang Wei for emergency treatment was likely just a cover-up.
But why was Wang Wei's soul in the hospital?
And why had he been trapped there for twenty years until he encountered me? The first time we met, Wang Wei asked me to take him out, and he seemed so certain at that moment.
Thinking about it, I couldn't help but glance at Wang Wei, who quickly averted his gaze.
"Secrets?"
I repeated the word.
To be honest, I wasn't sure if this Temple Guardian was a good person. Not just a simple good person; I didn't know if he had ulterior motives against me.
However, human hearts are the hardest to read. For some reason, I suddenly thought of Fat Zhang.
"Is it just tonight?"
The Temple Guardian sighed and said, "Maybe."
"What is going to happen tonight? What will follow the Ritual Burial?" I asked these two questions in quick succession.
I wondered if this Ritual Burial was related to the Evil Being. If something were to happen tonight, would the villagers be in danger? I hoped the Temple Guardian could provide me with an answer.
However, the Temple Guardian remained tight-lipped, refusing to speak. I took a deep breath, and at that moment, the atmosphere grew quiet. It was so silent that one could hear a pin drop.
Wang Wei broke the silence, asking, "Is he going to be resurrected?"
We all knew who he was referring to; Jianjian had even seen him! None of us understood the details about the Ritual Burial. After a long pause, the Temple Guardian finally said, "The everlasting lamp has already appeared..."
The everlasting lamp had appeared? It symbolizes eternal life; what does its emergence mean? Does it signify resurrection?
Wang Wei's expression grew complicated. If he truly was going to be resurrected, what would happen next?
The Temple Guardian did not directly answer our questions.
"What exactly are you?" I asked.
The old man chuckled softly and replied, "Well, I'm certainly not a good person." After saying this, he stood up and ushered us out. Wang Wei still wanted to ask something.
But the old man didn’t give him a chance and promptly kicked us out.
There lies a person buried underground; can one really be resurrected through a Ritual Burial? And where would the true everlasting lamp be? My thoughts were in disarray.
Suddenly, Wang Wei asked me, "Saning, do you believe he will be resurrected?"
I glanced at Wang Wei but didn’t respond. Wang Wei had been trapped by that person in the hospital for twenty years. The first time he saw my eyes, he was terrified; perhaps that person had left a shadow in Wang Wei's heart, making him somewhat fearful.
I said to Wang Wei, "So what if he comes back to life?"
I saw Wang Wei bite his lip, ultimately remaining silent. Wasn't this the Third Funeral organized by the Evil Being, merely a Ritual Burial for resurrection?
As we walked home, we overheard villagers discussing how they heard someone singing opera in their dreams that night. It was unsettling and strange.
Some claimed they heard a ghost performing a play, while others questioned if the person wasn't alive. Some remarked that there was no difference between a dying person and a ghost!
Listening to these comments sent a chill down my spine.
After the Ritual Burial, was tonight truly the night of resurrection?
I wondered if Ke'er would have a chance during this resurrection event. This thought had been a lingering concern for me.
I wished for Ke'er to live.
Was my Sarira still hidden away?
If this was indeed a resurrection event, I took a deep breath and pulled out my phone, inexplicably dialing Chen San's number.
Since the last incident, I hadn't contacted Chen San.
Ke'er had said that Chen San was not dead, and Chen San told me I could save him. The price for his help was to assist me with the Revival Pearl.
I made this call behind Wang Wei and Jianjian's backs; it was a personal dilemma because if Ke'er could come back to life...
The phone rang several times.
The call connected.
On the line, I called out to Chen San, and he responded.
I asked Chen San if everything was alright.
He told me to get straight to the point. His tone carried a hint of fatigue, indicating that the Evil Being had indeed caused him some harm.
However, someone like Chen San probably wouldn’t be too bothered by such injuries!
I still vividly remembered the heart-wrenching screams he let out beneath the East City Ruined Temple.
I didn’t hold back and directly stated my intentions.
After hearing me, Chen San fell silent for a few seconds before speaking. He said, “Saning, you need to think this through. If someone is truly meant to be revived, what you’re planning could be an act of taking a life.” Chen San spoke calmly.
This left me at a loss for words.
If he were to be revived, was I supposed to cut off his resurrection? I wasn’t sure if that was the right thing to do. I felt a twinge of hesitation.
Chen San continued, “Saning, if what you say is true, then we’ll complete this transaction. After I help you, you must help me in return.”
I acknowledged him and asked, “Can you make it in time?”
“No problem. I’ll fly over and should arrive by tonight.”
After agreeing to Chen San’s request, I suddenly felt a sense of unease. Was I really going to take a life? It seemed there was also a hint of hesitation in Chen San’s voice as he agreed.
What exactly is Chen San's secret? How can I possibly save him?
I took a deep breath, feeling a weight in my heart. Although the old man hadn't made it clear, both Wang Wei and I had been speculating about it.
My parents had also seemingly vanished over the past few days, without a word. I was puzzled. I had called them several times, but they didn't show up.
But perhaps it was for the best.
Things that had happened recently felt rather strange.
By nightfall, I called Ke'er aside and shared my plans with her. Her expression changed as she asked, "Husband, are you really going to do this? Do you want to bring Ke'er back to life?"
I glanced at Ke'er.
I replied, "Ke'er, do you want to be reborn?"
Ke'er looked at me and said, "If I could become a normal person and stay by Husband's side, then Ke'er would naturally be willing."
I held Keer's hand tightly. Even though I was blind, my heart was filled with urgency.
But Ke'er then asked, "Husband, do you really believe you can bring me back to life?"
