"Wang Wei" asked, "Why?"
I replied, "Can't you see? Look at how many corpses are in that corridor; there are just as many Remnant Souls here. Although Remnant Souls lack subjective consciousness, they can still feel sorrow!"
There must be something lingering here that evokes their painful memories.
"It must be driven by this foolish soul," "Wang Wei" said.
I responded, "That seems to be the case. Only this soul is whole; the others are all Remnant Souls. They can sense each other’s presence, which is why they empathize and cry together."
However, it truly takes a great deal of suffering to end up like this. The body and soul were severed by a butcher's knife—imagine the pain!
These souls gathered together, their wails echoing through the air, yet I couldn't see any tears falling.
The cacophony of cries was unbearable! I couldn't help but shout, "Stop the wailing!"
As soon as my voice fell, the previously sorrowful Wandering Souls fell silent, though occasional sobs still broke through.
"What are you crying for? Damn it! If you have grievances, seek revenge; if you have complaints, voice them. Why waste your time crying here? Where is the one who turned you into this? Just take us to them; what are you men crying for?"
"Wang Wei" gave me a thumbs up and added, "Crying like a bunch of women."
After our little lesson, all the souls quieted down significantly.
Yet suddenly, this foolish soul began to cry again without warning. I could see that the other souls were about to join in as well.
Suddenly, Wang Wei took advantage of my distraction and rushed forward to deliver a flurry of punches to the dazed soul. Chen San, Xiaoru, and Jianjian were all stunned by the sight.
Wang Wei was so caught up in his actions that he didn't notice me calling out, "Wang Wei, what are you doing?"
When Wang Wei realized that all four of us were staring at him, he became a bit embarrassed. He stopped his assault and said, "This guy started causing trouble."
Jianjian chimed in, "He's already in such a pitiful state, and you're hitting him? Do you have any humanity?"
Xiaoru added, "Yeah!"
However, what concerned me more was not their words but the fact that Wang Wei could actually hit a soul. I never expected that.
Wang Wei quickly explained, "Sorry everyone, I couldn't help it; I was influenced by Saning."
After he spoke, I gave Wang Wei a light punch and whispered, "How can you hit a soul?"
After death, when the seven souls and six spirits leave the body, they are collectively referred to as the soul. Once separated from the body, the soul usually exists in a transparent state.
Souls can sometimes pass through physical objects.
So when a physical entity comes into contact with a soul, it's almost like touching air. Therefore, Wang Wei had essentially come back to life in some way, yet he was able to hit a soul.
As I questioned him, Wang Wei pretended to be clueless and threw another punch, asking, "Are you going to say something or not?"
Wang Wei finally said, "It's all because of my body; there's something hidden inside it."
"What is it?" I asked.
Wang Wei replied, "I don't know what it is either, but it's now intertwined with my flesh and blood. Otherwise, how could I possibly remain youthful?"
After hearing Wang Wei's explanation, I let go of him.
The other three looked at us as if we were a spectacle. Wang Wei and I exchanged a grin, burying any past grievances!
"Saning Brother, shouldn't we get down to business now?"
It was only after Jianjian's reminder that I realized I had almost forgotten about our main task.
The soul that had been beaten by Wang Wei was now silent.
Just as I was about to speak, Ke'er appeared. She called out to me, "Husband," and I responded.
"Ke'er, you finally showed up."
Ke'er smiled at me, and my heart melted instantly.
"Husband, are you going to find Third Uncle?"
I nodded. So many souls had gathered, and with just a command from me, they would surely lead me to Third Uncle.
Ke'er looked as if she wanted to say something but hesitated. Finally, she said, "Husband, I want to go with you."
I nodded again and replied, "Alright."
I took Ke'er's hand and followed the souls. Although most of the souls here were unconscious, the one that had been beaten by Wang Wei was not.
In fact, after being pummeled by Wang Wei, its consciousness seemed even clearer.
We moved forward, and Jianjian caught up with Wang Wei, chatting with him about something.
Ke'er turned to me and asked, "Husband, do you know what kind of person Third Uncle is? Didn't Mom and Dad tell you?"
I simply replied that they hadn't stopped me.
Ke'er acknowledged this, and her tense expression suddenly relaxed a bit.
I asked Ke'er if she knew something.
She lifted her gaze to meet mine and said, "Husband, Third Uncle is quite a significant figure."
"What kind of significance?" I asked.
Third Uncle was known for his cruel methods, and it was certain that he had some background; an ordinary person could not separate the body from the soul.
I waited for Ke'er to continue.
Ke'er didn't keep me waiting long and said directly, "Husband, Third Uncle is an Evil Idol that was once worshipped."
I didn't quite understand what Ke'er meant by that.
What exactly is an "Evil Idol"?
Ke'er patiently explained, "Third Uncle isn't really considered a human. He is a person derived from an Evil Idol. However, he is different from ordinary people; he is inherently cruel. Husband, the main point isn't just this; the main point is that Third Uncle is extremely difficult to kill."
An Evil Idol? Is it somewhat similar to a Buddha statue? I asked.
"Theoretically, yes, but the difference lies in the concepts of good and evil—one represents good, the other evil."
No wonder Third Uncle could separate the soul from the body. But why would he do such a thing? Was he trying to prove something?
Regardless of what he was trying to prove, using living people for such experiments showed a lack of faith.
Suddenly, I thought of a question: what is the difference between the soul and the body?
When the soul leaves the body, it signifies death, while when the soul inhabits the body, it signifies life. So if the soul leaves the body, can it still be considered alive?
Or can a body live without a soul?
Without a soul, the body would begin to decay, so Third Uncle left a strand of Remnant Soul within the body, wanting to verify whether a body could still live without a soul.
I found myself lost in these thoughts, feeling that they were absurd, yet perhaps it was precisely such absurd ideas that someone would seek to validate.
Maybe that person was Third Uncle.
The fact that Third Uncle turned out to be an Evil Idol was simply unbelievable.
The Evil Idol transformed into a human and ultimately raised Soybean as an experimental subject, while Soybean sought my help, and I assisted Soybean in transcending.
Afterward, Third Uncle "died," but that death was merely an illusion.
What I am curious about now is what favor Third Uncle did for my parents that made them unwilling to take action.
Hearing Ke'er speak of how terrifying Third Uncle is makes me question whether he is truly related to me by blood.
I suddenly felt that perhaps the favor Third Uncle did for my father, Damn it, was somehow connected to me, which is why my parents were reluctant to intervene.
As I meditated alone and reached a conclusion, I suddenly asked Ke'er how she knew that Third Uncle was an Evil Idol.
Ke'er glanced at me.
I waited for Ke'er to continue.
But Ke'er said to me, "Husband, can I not say anything right now?"
I was taken aback by her response and paused for a few seconds before agreeing, saying it was fine. Of course, I was eager to know, but I respected Ke'er's wishes.
The Wandering Soul transformed into a Light Spot, cascading down like a meteor shower.
I asked Ke'er, "If one day I bring you back to life, what is the first thing you would want to do?"
Ke'er looked at me, and her cheeks suddenly flushed.
Then she leaned closer, took one of my hands in hers, and lightly whispered in my ear, "Husband, if I come back to life, the first thing I want to do is have a baby for you."
Upon hearing this, I couldn't help but feel a surge of emotion.
As Ke'er’s heels touched the ground, the blush on her face had yet to fade. I stared at her, momentarily at a loss for words. However, Ke'er reminded me, "Husband, you must be careful of Third Uncle."
I was about to respond when suddenly that foolish soul began to wail again…
