However, I have some doubts about the claims regarding Jianjian and the Clay Bodhisattva. Even if Third Uncle is indeed the Clay Bodhisattva, he certainly isn't any kind of benevolent figure.
After I set down the Evil Idol, Jianjian seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
The Evil Idol was placed back on the original Altar, appearing somewhat more animated.
I asked, "Can’t we move it?"
Jianjian replied, "We can. But we shouldn’t move it casually; the book says that the Clay Bodhisattva is quite sinister."
Upon hearing the word "sinister," I remarked that this so-called Clay Bodhisattva must be anything but good. If that's the case, can't we just get rid of him?
I turned to Wang Wei and asked, "Wang Wei, do you think this thing is a Bodhisattva?"
Wang Wei shook his head.
Jianjian chimed in, "He’s definitely not a Bodhisattva, but he was made by one." After hearing this, I asked, "Is that what the book says?"
Jianjian confirmed it was.
I couldn't help but ask, "What book? Does it have a lot of content?"
Jianjian replied that it didn’t have a name.
Ke'er looked at Jianjian with an even stranger expression. Jianjian had just said that the Evil Idol was made by a Bodhisattva. This surprised Ke'er, as she had heard similar things before.
Wang Wei then added, "A Bodhisattva? Are there really Bodhisattvas in this world? When I was suffering in the past, none ever offered me any help."
Jianjian shook her head and said, "It's what the book says; I don't know if it's true or not."
If all of this is true, then what kind of book is it? Damn it, I must borrow it to take a look another day.
I looked at Wang Wei and said, "Damn it. When you were doing bad things before, I never saw any Bodhisattva come to punish you!"
Wang Wei, that scoundrel, immediately started to defend himself upon hearing me say he did bad things.
But when I mentioned the hospital, Wang Wei fell silent. Back when I was still a patient there, this guy had threatened me several times.
Ke'er said, "Husband, there is indeed a legend about the Clay Bodhisattva crossing the river. It is said that a female Bodhisattva once created many clay figures, and later generations referred to these as Clay Bodhisattvas. However, this Clay Bodhisattva lacks complete divinity, so it cannot help the world and has been mockingly called the Clay Bodhisattva crossing the river."
As I listened to Ke'er, I thought to myself, could it be Nüwa?
Nüwa was said to have created humanity by molding clay figures; otherwise, there might not be humans today.
Of course, all of this is just legend.
But since this Evil Idol cannot move, what should we do? I still habitually referred to the clay statue as the Evil Idol in my mind.
I said, "Ke'er, Jianjian, since you both agree that this Evil Idol cannot move, what should we do? Just leave it unmoving?"
Ke'er nodded in agreement.
It was rare for Ke'er and Jianjian to be on the same page.
However, since it can't move, then it won't. I glanced at the clay statue that resembled Third Uncle; no matter how I looked at it, I felt uncomfortable. Isn't this supposed to be Third Uncle's true form?
"Isn't it true that unless we kill the real one, we can't kill Third Uncle?"
I couldn't help but feel a bit troubled. This ghostly thing made me turn to Ke'er and ask, "So how can we kill Third Uncle?"
I had initially assumed that this was indeed Third Uncle's true form.
Upon hearing my words, Ke'er seemed to understand my meaning and replied, "Husband, you misunderstood. This may not necessarily be Third Uncle's true form."
"Then why does it look so much like him?"
Ke'er shook her head, indicating she didn't know.
Jianjian also wore a confused expression. Damn it, I felt restless inside, as if I wanted to smash this so-called Clay Bodhisattva to see what would happen.
Is Third Uncle's identity really that mysterious? Has it come to this?
This is definitely not Third Uncle. So who could it possibly be?
Suddenly, I thought about the connection between Evil Idol and Clay Bodhisattva. Could it be that Evil Idol was worshipping Clay Bodhisattva? But I quickly dismissed that idea; who would worship a Clay Bodhisattva for no reason?
What good is a Clay Bodhisattva anyway?
Just then, I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Chen San poked his head out and called for me.
I asked what was going on.
Chen San said, "Saning, come up and take a look."
There were still three rooms on either side of the hall that I hadn't checked, and this hall was quite spacious. It seemed there was even a small reception area on one side with tables and chairs.
I went straight up to the second floor, but as I was climbing the stairs, Jianjian was still standing there in a daze.
I didn't call out to her; instead, I let Wang Wei stay with her while Ke'er and I headed upstairs. Once we reached the second floor, Chen San appeared to be a bit anxious, as he was waiting for me at the staircase.
I asked Chen San what he had discovered.
Chen San led me directly into a room, passing by the upstairs lounge without stopping, and entered a Dark Room.
The beam of the flashlight immediately illuminated the Dark Room.
Once the light filled the space, I saw the body of the Temple Guardian laid out on a table, covered with a white cloth.
The old man's body had simply been placed on top of the cloth.
There wasn't a single drop of blood on it; it was completely clean, as if this room had been tidied up.
Xiaoru stood nearby but did not approach.
I thought to myself that Third Uncle must have brought the old man's body here for his experiments.
I wasn't sure why I felt this way; I just had a sense that Third Uncle could do anything.
The only impression he left in my mind was the word "Ruthless."
However, the soul of the Temple Guardian had long since vanished; what use was this corpse?
I was just about to approach when Xiaoru called out to me.
"Saning, that corpse will come back to life."
I had become particularly sensitive to the term "revival." Whenever I heard it, I thought of the Revival Pearl.
I must have been obsessed.
"Revival? What do you mean by revival?" I asked.
Xiaoru replied, "Of course, it's not the kind of revival you’re thinking of."
When I looked at the Temple Guardian again, I still couldn't see anything wrong! It was just a simple corpse. But as I took a step forward, my expression changed.
Because I saw the soul.
It was hidden behind the corpse.
It was the souls attached to those Spirit Tablets. Above the Temple Guardian's corpse lay a dozen or so Spirit Tablets, each containing a ghost.
I saw Light Spots flickering within the Spirit Tablets. It was a strange sight.
Light Spots and the corpse?
The corpse no longer had a soul. Could it be that a spirit from the Spirit Tablet would borrow the body of the Temple Guardian to "revive"?
Borrowing a body to return to life?
I thought it was impossible. Even if this spirit could attach itself to the Temple Guardian, it would be similar to what Wang Wei did when he temporarily borrowed a body.
I didn't believe that revival could be so simple; otherwise, why would my Revival Pearl be so difficult to use?
I took a deep breath.
This Third Uncle was rather strange! Mainly, I didn't know what he was planning. As I had analyzed before, was a soul considered alive? Or was it only when a soul attached itself to a body that it could be considered alive?
I felt uncertain.
However, the fact that Third Uncle had his eyes on the Temple Guardian's corpse meant there must be something special about it.
Moreover, this old man had lived for over a hundred years and had been associated with Lin Li, so it was normal for him to have some unusual traits.
Since Third Uncle wanted to utilize this old man's corpse, I decided to take the body away and see how he would use it.
I stepped forward again, but this time Xiaoru called out to me.
I looked at her and thought that Chen San was unfortunate to have crossed paths with someone like her.
I wasn't anyone important to her; I didn't need to listen to her.
I took another step, but suddenly, in this enclosed space, it felt as if the wind had picked up. The Spirit Tablet began to tremble violently.
I saw the Light Spot beginning to float.
I took a big step forward, a bad feeling creeping into my heart.
But just as I stepped out, Xiaoru moved in front of me and grabbed my wrist. I shot her a glare and said, "What are you doing?"
At that moment, I saw Xiaoru writing a character in the air with her hand.
Damn it, it looked like a child randomly drawing circles in the air, but once she finished the circle, I saw a sudden burst of golden light in the void, and the character "Seal" appeared floating in midair.
Wow, it felt like I was watching a movie.
The golden light of the Seal spread towards the trembling Spirit Tablet.
At that moment, I noticed Ke'er stepping back, so I quickly shielded her behind me. The golden light soon enveloped the shaking Spirit Tablet.
However, it didn't hold for even ten seconds before the golden light completely dissipated.
Snapping out of my daze, I asked, "What are you doing?"
"An evil spirit," Xiaoru replied with just two words.
