The werewolf's eyes turned blood red, making it seem even more grotesque.
I called out to Wang Wei and Clay Bodhisattva, wanting them to be on guard. I had never had a good impression of these werewolves, especially after they had tried to make me their scapegoat, so I was on high alert.
Moreover, these werewolves seemed unusual now. Their eyes had all turned red.
At that moment, I misjudged their intentions; they were not planning to attack us but were beginning a Ritual that I could not comprehend.
The only thing I could sense about this Ritual was that the Dragon Vein had undergone a change. It was emitting a faint fragrance, which, although subtle, I could clearly smell.
I looked up but could not see the source of the light; it seemed to have hidden itself away.
The Ritual commenced, and soon I thought I heard a roar, like that of a wild beast. I glanced at the Princess and her tribe, but they showed no signs of change.
Could it be that the roar did not come from them?
I focused on the Dragon Vein as its fragrance enveloped the area. Before long, I saw a small creature emerge from the root-like Dragon Vein.
Though small, it exuded an aura of bloodlust.
It was no larger than a palm and made its way toward the stone platform constructed from large rocks.
Could that be the essence of the Dragon Vein? My curiosity piqued.
Once the small creature jumped onto the platform, it glanced at everyone before letting out a roar. The sound was low and rumbling, yet I noticed that even the Princess and the Wolf Clan trembled in response.
I watched in fascination as the Princess extended her snow-white hand. She held it straight out, but at that moment, she looked at me.
Her gaze seemed to harbor sorrow. Bloodthirsty Beast.
When one becomes a lamb, do they not resist? The small creature wasted no time and bit down on the Princess's wrist. She cried out in pain.
The Old Woman called out to the Princess but dared not intervene.
I enjoyed drinking fresh blood, particularly the blood of the Wolf King. I watched for a while but did not act immediately; I held back.
The Old Woman called out to me anxiously. I thought to myself, why aren’t you all taking action?
I sighed and took a step forward, but at that moment, the Middle-Aged Werewolf made his move. However, we quickly witnessed the fate that awaited a werewolf who dared to attack this little creature.
It was instant death, without any warning. The little creature merely let out a roar.
All the werewolves froze in place; I couldn't even tell what this little creature was.
It was small in size but incredibly fierce.
Even the Princess dared not resist. The little creature, as if it were having dinner, roared once more and then returned to the Princess's wrist.
The Old Woman looked at me anxiously. The light in the room flickered with the sway of the candles. I didn’t hesitate; saving a life is worth more than building a seven-story pagoda.
A light spot appeared in my palm, flowing like a blue river towards the Princess. A barrier slowly formed, separating her from the little creature.
The little creature became furious and began to gnaw at the barrier created by the soul light spot, but it couldn’t break through.
Realizing that I was the culprit, it charged towards me. Just then, a golden light spread into the room. I turned to look.
I found Chen San and Xiaoru appearing before me, both looking dirty and disheveled.
They seemed quite distressed, and I was surprised they had come here as well. The golden character for "Pardon" pressed down on the little creature, causing it to roar again.
Everyone stared at these two unexpected guests.
They looked back at me; while the werewolves allowed us to enter, it didn’t mean they permitted anyone else to come here.
"Saning, didn’t you say you wouldn’t come?" Chen San spoke first.
Upon hearing Chen San call my name, the werewolves realized we knew each other.
I said I hadn't planned to come, but there was something here.
Chen San directly stated, "There are two things here; which one do you want?"
Before I could get my hands on the item, Chen San was already dividing it with me. To be honest, I had no interest in that small object; what I was really interested in was Ke'er’s Soul Seed.
I said, "I want the Soul Seed."
Both Chen San and Xiaoru knew what the Soul Seed was. My goal was clear, and Chen San wasn't one to beat around the bush.
In just a few exchanges, we divided the tasks.
I advised Wang Wei and Clay Bodhisattva to be careful.
At this point, the barrier formed by the souls was slowly dissipating. I climbed back up along the Dragon Vein, but once I reached the top, I couldn't see Ke'er’s soul anymore.
However, at that moment, Princess called out to me, "The Seed of Souls cannot leave the Dragon Vein."
Xiaoru and Chen San had already begun hunting that palm-sized object. It seemed to sense the threat and decided not to confront us directly; instead, it played a game of hide-and-seek.
The space here was relatively large, and that small object was quite agile, making it difficult to catch.
At this point, Ke'er and the Seed of Souls had vanished.
I felt a bit anxious. As I descended to the ground, I saw Old Woman bandaging Princess's wounds.
I asked, "Where did Ke'er and the Seed of Souls go?"
I couldn't sense their presence either. Princess's complexion was somewhat pale, but her reddened eyes had returned to normal. She said that Ke'er’s soul was likely attached to that small object.
I had previously speculated that Ke'er and this small object were symbiotic.
Yet Princess had earlier claimed it was possible to kill the Dragon Vein, and now she said this. For a moment, I found myself feeling hesitant.
"Both the Seed of Souls and the Dragon Vein must be in your hands, so that Sister Ke'er’s Soul Seed can be preserved in the best condition," said the Princess.
I glanced at the Princess, unsure if she was speaking the truth or lying.
However, Chen San had gone through great lengths to find this place, and I doubted he would easily give up on the Dragon Vein and the souls.
If I told Chen San right now that I wanted both items, I wondered how he would react. But Chen San couldn't see the Seed of Souls.
I called out to Chen San, and he paused.
In the dim light, I noticed a network of blood vessels appearing on Chen San's face. The Old Woman, experienced as she was, immediately recognized what Chen San was. She exclaimed, "How could there still be an undead?" Her tone carried a hint of fear.
Chen San slowly turned around.
"I might need both of these items for now," I said.
This time, Chen San remained silent. It was Xiaoru who spoke up: "Saning, we cannot agree to your terms."
Xiaoru's rejection intensified the already tense atmosphere.
Chen San did not outright refuse me; instead, he said, "Saning, these things are of no use to you."
In truth, I didn't really want the Dragon Vein; I just thought that before finding Ke'er’s Soul Seed, I needed the Dragon Vein. Once I found what I was looking for, whoever wanted the Dragon Vein could take it.
Of course, it was a nice thought, but reality was harsh.
Xiaoru reiterated that they could not give me the items.
Wang Wei and Clay Bodhisattva sensed the shift in mood. Wang Wei said, "These items aren't yours; whoever gets them first can take them."
After his words, Wang Wei let out a strange cry. Clay Bodhisattva chimed in.
Neither Chen San nor I responded, tacitly agreeing with Wang Wei's statement. Thus, we began our pursuit of the Dragon Vein in this space.
The Dragon Vein seemed to be frightened, darting around erratically.
As I chased after the Dragon Vein, I also tried to sense Ke'er's presence.
However, just moments ago, Ke'er's aura was incredibly faint, even when I was close enough to touch that ball of light and fire. That ball of light had Ke'er's essence, but it felt unreal.
Now that the light had vanished, I could no longer detect Ke'er's presence. Doubts began to creep into my mind; I suspected that this might not even be Keer's Soul Seed.
I thought about it but didn’t stop moving.
The werewolves dared not make a sound, so the five of us in this space continued to chase the Dragon Vein. Perhaps we were too engrossed in the pursuit because we didn’t notice when the door of this space closed behind us.
Before long, Clay Bodhisattva shouted, “That Ugly Monster is gone.”
At that moment, I turned around and realized that all the werewolves had disappeared. A sinking feeling hit me; I thought I had been tricked.
That palm-sized thing was still flitting about.
I had already stopped in my tracks.
I told Wang Wei to stop chasing it. Chen San seemed unconcerned about the door being shut and continued pursuing the Dragon Vein. Although the Dragon Vein appeared a bit frantic, it was still on its own turf.
It felt like we were playing a game; once it was over, it slipped into the "tree roots."
Chen San happened to stop right in front of the roots, and I heard him curse under his breath.
The light illuminated the area brightly, and unease began to settle in me; I felt that the real Ritual hadn’t even begun yet.
Wang Wei said, “What are those werewolves up to?”
I replied, “We might not be able to get out.”
As soon as I said that, Wang Wei didn’t believe me. “How could we not get out?” Chen San and Xiaoru also halted their steps. I couldn’t help but ask, “Did you see that Seed of Souls?”
Chen San shook his head, and Xiaoru did the same. Xiaoru had a poor impression of me because Chen San and I had been competing for things, so there was no conversation between us.
The space here became closed off.
"Saning Brother, we’ve been tricked."
I responded with a sound of agreement. Chen San said, "There’s a smell of blood here, filled with the aura of death."
I was aware of that too.
"The blood drawing has ended," Chen San stated. I was confused by this remark. He explained that the little creature we encountered earlier must have been playing a game orchestrated by that Wolf Girl, leading us into a trap.
Hearing this made me feel somewhat absurd, but it had already happened, and I had no choice but to accept it. A game? This beast could play games? No, it wasn't just one beast; it was a group of them.
How could the Dragon Vein, guarded for hundreds of years, simply be abandoned? Yes, I had let my guard down. Even though I had been cautious before, I still miscalculated.
