Jono didn't know why Jin Chengyan had been staying at Jin Mansion these past few days. The contract only stated that he would return for two days each week, but Jono wasn't in the mood to dwell on it. After all, she was busy with work when she got home, making sales calls one after another until her throat was sore.
On Saturday, Jono was working in the living room. After finishing a call that led nowhere, she stood up from the sofa and stretched. Noticing her water cup was empty and her throat felt uncomfortable, she headed towards the kitchen with the cup in hand.
She glanced outside and saw that Jin Chengyan's car was gone; he must have left before she woke up, which allowed her to work freely in the living room.
Just as she stepped out of the living room, the doorbell rang. Jono looked at the electronic display and saw a woman's face—an exceptionally beautiful woman. Even though the woman wore sunglasses that obscured half of her face, Jono found her strikingly familiar.
Familiarity aside, it quickly dawned on Jono that this woman was ringing the doorbell of Jin Mansion, clearly looking for Jin Chengyan. And her identity? She was Jin Chengyan's wife, a fact he could not disclose.
Panic set in immediately; Jono felt as if the woman on the screen could see her and wished she could hide away. But soon enough, she realized that the person outside couldn't see her at all. As long as she didn't open the door, she would be fine. With that thought, Jono relaxed a bit and patted her chest as she continued to the kitchen.
A few minutes later, Jono returned from the kitchen with a glass of water. Her mind was still occupied with thoughts about whether to soften her tone during sales calls later and not let rude remarks get to her.
As she walked down the hallway leading to the living room, something felt slightly off about the atmosphere.
She paused and glanced toward the stairs—Jin Chengyan was home! Dressed in casual clothes, he looked particularly gentle, but his handsome face showed no expression. His gaze was fixed on the entrance hall opposite the stairs.
Everything seemed to move in slow motion as Jono turned her head slowly and saw the woman from the electronic display. The woman removed her sunglasses, and it finally clicked for Jono who this woman was.
The rising star on the big screen—Ruan Shengyu.
But why was she here? From the way Jin Chengyan came down the stairs, it was clear he hadn’t opened the door himself. Ruan Shengyu knew the password to the Jin Mansion.
This relationship made Jono inexplicably suspicious. Could Ruan Shengyu be Jin Chengyan's sister? That would explain how she knew the password. But one had the surname Jin and the other had the surname Xi. Were they cousins? Or perhaps...
Jono couldn't help but let her thoughts wander elsewhere. Could it be that Ruan Shengyu was something more than just a sister to Jin Chengyan?
Moreover, there had been news about them on television before...
But that didn't make sense either. A beauty like Ruan Shengyu would be a waste as merely a relative; she should be cherished and taken care of in the family. Why would Jin Chengyan choose to marry someone else instead of her?
In just a few seconds, Jono felt as if her mind was in turmoil. She shifted her gaze back to Jin Chengyan, silently asking him what she should do.
Unfortunately, Jin Chengyan didn’t look at her. He remained standing on the half-meter-high steps, looking down at Ruan Shengyu with an air of superiority.
Ruan Shengyu’s exquisite face bore no heavy makeup; she wore only a simple touch of cosmetics and dressed in very casual clothing. If it weren't for her striking features, Jono would have thought she was just a girl next door.
She slightly shifted her gaze away from Jono and casually remarked, “Did your family get a new maid?” Lowering her head, she took off her high heels and opened the shoe cabinet, only to find no slippers that belonged to her.
Saying nothing, she closed the cabinet and put her high heels back on.
“I’ll just say a few words and leave; I won’t change into slippers. You don’t mind, do you?” She smiled lightly, showing no signs of discomfort. “It should be convenient for cleaning up, right?”
Ruan Shengyu had a sweet dimple on her right cheek when she smiled.
However, when the topic shifted to Jono, she found herself at a loss for words. Should she just agree and say that she would keep the place tidy, that she was a diligent maid?
"She is not a maid," Jin Chengyan said as he descended the stairs in a few quick steps, standing before Ruan Shengyu with an unfamiliar demeanor.
