After the bankruptcy at home, Jono transformed from a girl who wore her emotions on her sleeve into someone who could read the room. Although Ruan Shengyu still wore a smile on her face, Jono could see the surprise hidden in her eyes.
For reasons unknown, Jono immediately said, "Mr. Jin, I've taken care of the flowers in the garden. I'm sorry for coming in to get a glass of water; I'll leave now." She quickly placed the cup on the table at the bottom of the stairs and ran out without even changing her slippers.
Jin Chengyan raised an eyebrow, watching the door that was hurriedly opened and then closed again, and he couldn't help but smile helplessly.
"She..." Ruan Shengyu swallowed the words that were about to come out. She had no intention of going inside, perhaps not wanting to confirm her suspicions.
When she looked up and saw Jin Chengyan's expression, it felt like her heart was stabbed painfully. He should not, could not show such a smile to another girl.
"Is there something?" Jin Chengyan asked indifferently, his tone distant and polite, instantly shifting to how he would speak to anyone else.
Ruan Shengyu pulled back her thoughts and smiled brightly. "I got a role in a new drama and will be starting soon, so I wanted to let you know."
"You didn't need to come all this way just to tell me that," he replied, showing no intention of inviting Ruan Shengyu inside. They remained stuck between the entrance and the stairs.
Ruan Shengyu's face lost some of its luster at Jin Chengyan's words, but that didn't change the fact that she was about to start filming. "Take care of yourself." She placed her hand on his.
Jin Chengyan subtly withdrew his hand. "You should go. If reporters catch you here, it won't be good for either of us."
Repeated rejections could shatter even the most proactive heart. Her smile had long faded; ultimately, she suppressed all her words and turned to leave.
As the door closed, Ruan Shengyu heard a muffled sound from inside, as if something had been broken.
Jono was wandering along the road near Jin Mansion, and after walking for a while, she realized she was wearing slippers. It suddenly struck her that when Ruan Shengyu opened the shoe cabinet, she must have seen several pairs of shoes that Jono often wore. What kind of gardener would leave their shoes at their employer's house?
How foolish could she be!
"But I did this to avoid making Ruan Shengyu misunderstand my relationship with Jin Chengyan," she comforted herself. From the atmosphere between the two of them earlier, it seemed like they were having a secret romance. Otherwise, one was the President of Jin Corporation and the other was an actress on the rise; news of their relationship would surely be widespread.
"I wonder if Ruan Shengyu has left..." Jono thought to herself. She had come out without a coat, just wearing a T-shirt and long pants. It hadn’t felt cold at home, but now that she was outside, the cool breeze made her feel like she would freeze in an instant.
"Should I go back now?" Jono muttered to herself. "That doesn't seem right. Since they've both decided on a secret romance, it would be a shame to interrupt them when they finally have a chance to meet. Sigh, they really are a handsome couple..."
She started jogging to keep warm but unexpectedly ran into someone she didn't want to see. She remembered that their family shouldn't be around here!
