Because she successfully signed the letter of intent, Jono felt very happy; at least she had taken her first step towards success! Taking advantage of her outing, Jono went to the old street to buy her father's favorite Candied Chestnuts, and she headed to the hospital holding the warm chestnuts.
She was so joyful that it felt like there was a breeze at her feet as she walked. She wanted to share this happiness with her father, even though he had no idea when he would wake up.
Passing by the outpatient department and walking through the small garden, Jono made her way to the inpatient area but got tripped up in the gazebo of the small garden.
A doctor who had been dozing on the steps opened his eyes because of Jono's movement. From his perspective, she was facing away from the sunlight, blocking the blinding light for him. At that moment, he thought this woman might just be sent by God.
"What are you doing..." blocking the way while sleeping here!
The Male Doctor brushed off the dust from his pants and stood up from the steps.
"Jono, I can't believe after all these years your memory is still as bad as ever!" Without warning, the Male Doctor reached out and patted Jono on the head.
Jono truly felt bewildered, but what did he mean by "all these years"?
Narrowing her eyes, she looked at the Male Doctor in front of her, but she really didn't recognize him. Among her father's attending physicians, there was no one like him!
"Jono, even after all this time you still don't remember me? I'm Brother Wen."
Hearing that name, buried memories slowly surged into her mind. She turned around in surprise, but she clearly remembered that Brother Wen had been a chubby kid with gold-rimmed glasses; how could he possibly be this tall, somewhat rogue-looking doctor now?
She looked at the name tag on his chest, which read: Neurosurgery, Huo Yawen.
"Are you... kidding me?" She remembered that Brother Wen wasn't named Huo Yawen; his last name was Lin!
"When you were four, you were still wetting the bed, but afraid of your mom finding out, you secretly put the bedwetting sheet in the doghouse and said it was the dog's fault!" Such a silly thing could only have been done by little Jono.
"But..." Jono stared at the drastically changed Brother Wen, still struggling to connect the two people.
"A lot has happened since then; we'll talk about it later." Huo Yawen waved it off.
Jono was still trying to process that Huo Yawen was actually Brother Wen. She stared blankly at him! The neighbor boy who had always protected her during childhood—what a fortunate reunion after so many years!
"I'm sorry I wasn't there when your family had trouble," Huo Yawen said with some guilt. If he had come back sooner, if he had recognized Jono earlier, she wouldn't have had to endure such hardships.
Jono smiled nonchalantly; the hardest part was already behind her. "It's fine, just small matters."
"Long time no see," Huo Yawen smiled. "But to make up for my absence and what you had to endure, I asked a friend of mine to buy a house from your sales department. I heard you've already signed the letter of intent, so I came here to wait for you. It seems everything went smoothly."
Jono blinked, looking at Huo Yawen. So, she was able to successfully sign the letter of intent with the other company because of Huo Yawen's behind-the-scenes help!
"Wen..." It was still a bit difficult to suddenly call him by his childhood name. "You really didn't have to go through all this trouble; eighty units is no small number. You don't need to owe me this favor!"
"Consider it my belated birthday gift, Christmas gift, and New Year gift to you over all these years. In this way, I'm actually making a profit," Huo Yawen replied dismissively as he took the Candied Chestnuts from Jono's hand. "How did you know I like chestnuts? Do you know how hard it is to find these things abroad?"
Jono truly seemed indifferent to that matter, while she was immersed in the joy of reuniting with Brother Wen.
She had signed the intention letter, sold her house, embraced her job at Jin Architecture, and met Brother Wen... everything seemed to be falling into place!
