When Jin Chengyan arrived at Jin Mansion, the exterior appeared tranquil.

Later, when he heard A-Shan recount that scene, his heart twisted at the memory; Ruan Shengyu must have been so terrified back then.
Thus, over the years, he had been trying to make amends with Ruan Shengyu.
However, this time, when Jin Zhongshu intended to use such tactics against Jono, he knew he had to intervene. Jono had no reason to endure this.
But as he opened the door and stepped inside, he found Jono leaning against the sofa, sound asleep.
Her face bore a slight flush, likely from the living room's overly warm air conditioning. She was covered with a wool blanket, which added to her warmth.
In that moment, Jin Chengyan felt a wave of relief wash over him; thankfully, Jono was alright.
He quietly approached and sat beside her, gently pulling the blanket down a bit to prevent her from overheating.
Jono looked particularly peaceful in her deep slumber, yet her brow was slightly furrowed. It seemed the events of recent days had taken a toll on her—her father's passing and the weight of the Qiao Family's burdens rested solely on her shoulders.
Suddenly, Jin Chengyan realized just how deeply he cared for Jono—a silent concern that he almost hadn’t noticed himself.
His hand resting on Jono stiffened as he realized it had already brushed against her.
On the sofa, she was not in a deep sleep when Jin Chengyan's movements stirred her awake. She opened her hazy eyes and looked at Jin Chengyan sitting beside her.
Perhaps it was the drowsiness that made her feel that Jin Chengyan radiated a warm and familiar aura. She smiled lightly, and the fatigue of the past few days seemed to vanish.
"Qiao..."
"Jin Chengyan, do you know? Back then, Dad was very busy and didn't have time to have dinner with us. I was just waiting on the sofa for him to come back, and he sat by the sofa watching me..." The scene felt so familiar that Jono found herself confiding in Jin Chengyan, sharing these thoughts.
She wanted to tell him how much she missed her dad.
Jin Chengyan paused, his hand, which was about to pull away from Jono, returned to rest on her shoulder.
"Mom left early. It was just me, Dad, and Qiao Chen at home. He was both a father and a mother to us. He always joked that when he finally found Mom, he would complain to her about why she left so early and left the two little ones with him. He loved Mom so much that he ended up leaving me and Qiao Chen behind, right?" Jono curled up closer to Jin Chengyan, as if his presence was warmer than the air conditioning.
Jin Chengyan felt a tug at his heart; he understood all too well what it meant to wait for someone. He admitted that he felt a pang of sympathy for Jono.
With a gentle effort, he lifted Jono into his arms, holding her with a tenderness he had never realized he possessed.
His breath brushed against Jono's ear as he spoke in a low voice, "Don't be sad; I'm still here."
Those words were like an enchantment that made Jono believe. She buried her head in the crook of Jin Chengyan's neck.
"Will you always be here?" she asked, afraid of sudden disappearances and abandonment.
"As long as you need me, I will be there." Anyone can say comforting words, but how many truly follow through?
