Wang Er Gou felt a surge of panic inside him. For a moment, he was at a loss as the crowd around them fell silent. Seven was also watching the scene unfold; he knew that Wang Er Gou was no good. Just moments ago, he had been ready to pull the trigger.
Wang Er Gou cast a desperate glance towards Wu Qingshan, who remained silent and unresponsive. As Ah Si's finger hovered over the trigger, Wang Er Gou was so frightened that sweat broke out on his forehead. He decided to close his eyes, thinking that if he were to die, it would be more peaceful this way.
The gunshot rang out, and Wang Er Gou instinctively thought he was dead. He touched his forehead and felt the cold sweat still there. When he opened his eyes, he met Seven's ambiguous smile. It was then that he confirmed he was still alive, with Wu Qingshan standing right in front of him.
Wang Er Gou finally understood; it seemed Wu Qingshan had saved his life. He glanced at Ah Si, who still wore an expression of dissatisfaction.
Wang Er Gou straightened his face and bowed his head to Wu Qingshan, saying, "I owe you my life and have no way to repay you." He then turned to Ah Si and cupped his fists in thanks for sparing him. Ah Si turned his head away, indicating he did not accept it.
Wang Er Gou lowered his gaze and fell silent. At that moment, Wu Qingshan spoke up loudly, "This matter cannot be blamed on Er Gou. We were all greedy for money; what goes around comes around." He sighed after speaking.
Wu Qingshan was a man of loyalty and responsibility.
He turned to Seven and said, "Thanks to your idea just now, or else we might have lost our lives! On behalf of all the brothers," he began to bow but was stopped by Seven.
Seven replied, "No need for that. I should be thanking you; otherwise, I wouldn't have known how to escape," and he laughed heartily.
Seeing that Seven was also straightforward, Wu Qingshan joined in the laughter and promised, "If any brother is in trouble in the future, just come to me for help; I will never refuse."
Seven responded, "I will definitely seek your help when the time comes."
Wang Er Gou felt awkward and uneasy facing these words since he had just tried to take action against Seven under Skylight.
Wu Qingshan expressed his intention to lead the brothers away from there; there was no point in lingering when life was more important than money. After all, one needed life to spend money.
Wu Qingshan intended to call Seven to leave together but was refused. Not wanting to push further, he left some equipment behind for Seven.
As Wu Qingshan's group began to leave, they noticed Wang Er Gou had not followed. They exchanged glances before Wu Qingshan continued on his way. Soon enough, they disappeared from sight.
Seven glanced at Wang Er Gou with a teasing look. Wang Er Gou calmly replied, "I owe you! You don't seem like the kind of person who does small things, and you definitely need a helper right now."
Seven noncommittally said, "You could say I need a helper! Given the current situation, I need someone who understands Feng Shui."
When Wang Er Gou heard the words "Feng Shui," his expression changed slightly. He sighed, realizing that since they would be working together in the future, he might as well be honest.
"Feng Shui has quite a history with me. It has helped me gain immense wealth, but it has also led to my downfall."
Seven listened to Wang Er Gou recount his past without interrupting.
Wang Er Gou explained that his former name was not this one; he used to be called Mo Liang. He was from a mountain village in Eastern Pass. One day, while gathering firewood in the mountains, he discovered a middle-aged man lying unconscious on the ground. At that time, Wang Er Gou was just a simple mountain man, not as cunning as he was now. Out of kindness, he brought the unconscious man back home.
Life in the mountains was already tough, and now there was an outsider to care for. Wang Er Gou's wife was unhappy about it, but he insisted on saving the man despite the difficulties. For this decision, he faced a lot of anger and ridicule from the villagers who called him a fool.
After saving the man, Wang Er Gou found some money on him. Although it wasn't much, it was enough for someone who had lived in the mountains for generations to get by for several years. At that time, Wang Er Gou didn't know what kind of foolishness he had committed; he refused to take even a penny from the man. He also discovered a book on the middle-aged man titled "Feng Shui Record."
Wang Er Gou couldn't understand its contents at all and set it aside.
The middle-aged man remained unconscious for five days and nights before waking up. After that, Wang Er Gou took care of him. The middle-aged man had given some money to Wang Er Gou's wife, which lessened her complaints.
Now in his forties and without a wife or children, the middle-aged man believed that surviving this ordeal was Heaven's greatest blessing.
Since being rescued, the middle-aged man had not spoken a word and often stared blankly at a mountain range in Eastern Pass. Initially, Wang Er Gou and his wife thought he was mute! However, Wang Er Gou never asked about his past.
One day, as they sat around the table eating as usual, Wang Er Gou suddenly heard a deep and powerful voice. At first, he thought he had misheard but soon confirmed that he hadn't. It was the middle-aged man speaking.
The middle-aged man's complexion grew worse as he coughed during the meal.
The middle-aged man spoke with a dignified accent from Dongguan City, saying, "These days, I appreciate your care, brother." Wang Er Gou replied with a mountain accent, "Saving a life is worth more than building a seven-story pagoda. No need to say thanks." The middle-aged man chuckled lightly but suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood.
Wang Er Gou immediately stood up, concerned, and asked, "What’s wrong? I'll go get a doctor right away." The middle-aged man took the towel from Wang Er Gou's wife and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.
He called out to Wang Er Gou, who had already run to the door, "No need to find a doctor! This illness of mine cannot be cured by anyone."
Wang Er Gou paused and said, "How can it be that no one can cure it? It must be treatable."
The middle-aged man, looking pale, replied, "Don't waste your efforts. I know my own condition." Wang Er Gou was momentarily speechless.
The middle-aged man continued, "Seeing your honest nature, if you don't mind, why not take me as your master?"
Although Wang Er Gou didn't know what skills this middle-aged man possessed, he could tell he wasn't an ordinary person and decided to accept him as his master. From then on, he referred to the middle-aged man as "Master."
After becoming his disciple, Wang Er Gou treated the middle-aged man with even greater respect.
The middle-aged man asked Wang Er Gou to bring him the book titled "Feng Shui Record." He said slowly, "I was once a lay disciple at the Eastern Guan Dao Temple. Later, I accidentally obtained this book and returned to secular life. I spent most of my life studying it and finally achieved some success. I often helped others with feng shui and land selection and occasionally took on some external commissions. My life has been relatively prosperous, and my reputation grew. Then one day, a mysterious person came to me asking for help in examining the feng shui of a piece of land. At that time, I didn't think much of it."
The mysterious person kept raising the material rewards for his assistance, but the middle-aged man remained unmoved because the book contained a strict rule against violating heavenly principles—something he dared not do! Otherwise, it would lead to his own destruction!
He was wary of this rule and thus declined the man's invitation. Later, that person returned and said, "I see you lack the ability."
Having previously seen several significant feng shui cases and feeling proud of his skills, the middle-aged man retorted, "There isn't a place in this world that I cannot understand feng shui."
Soon after, a group of twenty or thirty people set off in grand fashion, equipped with top-notch gear—considered the best at that time. The team included geographers, archaeologists, and many other professionals who had been invited. However...
The middle-aged man helplessly looked up at the sky and stopped this part of the conversation. Although Wang Er Gou was curious about what happened next, he didn't dare to ask further.
Wang Er Gou diligently followed the middle-aged man to learn Feng Shui, neglecting his household chores. At first, his wife complained.
Later, the middle-aged man took a pendant from around his neck and handed it to her, suggesting she pawn it for some money. Wang Er Gou intended to stop him, but the middle-aged man calmly said, "Material possessions are transient; you come into this world with nothing and leave with nothing."
When Wang Er Gou's wife returned, she couldn't stop smiling for a long time, and soon their meals became increasingly better.
Under the guidance of the middle-aged man, Wang Er Gou began to offer Feng Shui consultations to the people in the mountains. Each time he provided excellent readings, and his reputation grew. People from the county town came to seek his services. However, the middle-aged man's health was deteriorating! His coughing increased noticeably, and he often inexplicably coughed up blood.
Finally, one day, the middle-aged man could no longer hold on. Before he died, he said, "I cannot teach you everything in this book. You have good comprehension; you can achieve greatness through your own study. But do not violate the principles of the Feng Shui Record! And do not go into the Eastern Guan Mountain Range! I also bequeath to you my house in Eastern Pass, in the city of Lingli." With that, he passed away.
Wang Er Gou honored the middle-aged man with a three-day wake complete with trumpets and drums, then kept vigil for seven days. Following the middle-aged man's instructions, he went to Lingli, the most prosperous trading city in Eastern Pass.
The middle-aged man had not deceived him; in Lingli, there was a luxurious house on a bustling street. Wang Er Gou's wife was overjoyed for several days, exclaiming, "We've struck it rich this time! It’s all thanks to your ancestors' virtue!" Wang Er Gou was too lazy to respond.
Life continued like this! Everyone knew he was the middle-aged man's disciple, so many came seeking his Feng Shui expertise. He welcomed everyone without hesitation, and as time passed, his fame in Eastern Pass and Lingli grew.
His wife bore him two sons and a daughter, and they lived a prosperous and peaceful life. One rainy night, a cloaked figure came to visit.
Wang Er Gou thought he was just another person seeking advice on choosing a residence or tomb site. Without any suspicion, he invited him in.
The stranger spoke first: "We have been observing you for a long time! You have qualified."
Wang Er Gou felt puzzled by this statement! The stranger continued in a grim voice: "The promise your master made to us has yet to be fulfilled; now it must fall upon you to take over!"
