As the torch extinguished, the sky gradually brightened. The three of them had likely rested for a while during the night. The light was in a hazy state. They descended in an orderly manner down to Skylight.
Following Seven's lead, they soon arrived at the edge of the Underground River.
Second looked at the Underground River and said, "Everything that happened to you before took place right here."
Seven nodded, while Wang Er Gou began to observe the feng shui of the area on his own.
"Should we go straight down or...?" Second asked. Seven replied, "Going straight down isn't realistic; we can't stay underwater for too long. Although I don't know how they managed it, there must be some technique."
At this point, Wang Er Gou spoke up, "If I'm not mistaken, they should be using something called 'Waterproof Pills.' These pills can temporarily slow down bodily functions, helping users stay underwater longer."
Second was somewhat surprised and said, "There's such a thing?"
Wang Er Gou nodded and continued, "Everything has its pros and cons. While this kind of thing can provide temporary protection from water, it can also be harmful to the body. Over time, it can cause paralysis, leading to stiffness in the limbs. In severe cases, one might become completely immobile and ultimately drown."
The vastness of the world truly holds countless wonders. Both Second and Seven couldn't help but marvel at this.
Given the current situation, going underwater was unrealistic; they could only proceed along the Underground River. None of them disagreed with this decision. Seven remarked, "This place is naturally formed and has undergone significant geological movements."
The Underground River might be a primary result of these geological changes.
Wang Er Gou couldn't deduce much at this point but could generally judge that the feng shui here was excellent, capable of locking in the earth's energy—making it an ideal choice for a Tomb. After he finished speaking, Second said, "Er Gou, with those shifty eyes of yours, I didn't expect you to know so much!"
Wang Er Gou was momentarily at a loss for words and could only respond, "Brother Cao, you're too kind."
Second chuckled and said, "You get out of breath just because I called you fat."
Wang Er Gou felt a bit embarrassed and decided not to respond. Seven timely remarked, "Er Gou has some impressive skills; I was just planning to learn this technique from him."
The three continued their conversation as they moved forward. They were now walking along the riverbank, unable to predict what lay beneath the water, which posed a significant challenge for them.
After their previous group had split up, several mysteries remained, waiting for them to unravel.
If there was a world beneath the water, what kind of existence would it be? How could it exist safely underwater when living beings couldn't stay submerged for too long?
For now, all they could do was follow the Underground River and keep searching.
The darkness was gradually being overtaken by the flickering flames, and the riverbank was becoming increasingly dry. There was no longer a path along the river; instead, they were blocked by towering cave walls.
The three of them pressed on toward the dark area ahead. The ground had completely dried out, and the sound of the Underground River had diminished.
Second asked, "You mentioned that 'the big brother' jumped into the water but didn't sink." Second still hadn't gotten used to the idea that this person might not actually be a big brother and continued to refer to him as such.
Seven replied, "That's right. This Underground River is no ordinary river; there are likely several Backflows in it."
"Once I catch that person, he'll have to face the consequences," Second said with resentment. As they advanced, their path had completely veered away from the Underground River, leading them into an unknown territory.
Wang Er Gou could clearly feel the chill in the air increasing; it seemed like there was more moisture in the atmosphere, making it slightly difficult to breathe.
The connection between Tombs and Feng Shui Masters is undeniably close. Many wealthy and powerful individuals place great importance on their burial sites, leading to various burial methods, including accompanying burials and sacrificial burials.
Since these were all affluent individuals, there would be plenty of Burial Goods. Fearing tomb raiding after death, they set up deadly traps to protect their final resting places.
Typically, those who engage in tomb raiding possess varying degrees of skill. Therefore, the existence of these Tomb Raiders indicates that the owners of the tombs have their own means of protection.
There are crossbows, traps, quicksand, mercury gas, and so on. Of course, the most fundamental aspect is the reinforcement of the tomb's structure. Generally, earth is piled up for support and cement is used for solidification.
Thus, it is generally quite difficult to rob a tomb. However, there is no tomb that cannot be looted; it must be said that the methods of Tomb Raiders have become increasingly sophisticated over time.
Wang Er Gou observed the layout below and noted that it did not resemble a wealthy person's tomb. Otherwise, there wouldn't be an Underground River present.
A skilled Feng Shui Master would never allow an Underground River to exist next to a tomb; if it did, the resting place of the deceased could be destroyed. Yet this place was indeed a prime location for good Feng Shui.
Seven was also carefully examining the surroundings and eventually said, "Let's extinguish the torches and use flashlights instead."
The other two had no objections. After putting out the torches, they began to turn on their flashlights. As they moved forward, the cave entrance became increasingly lower, forcing them to bend over as they progressed.
No, it was becoming clear that this passage was getting smaller and could only accommodate one person at a time; they had to crouch down to move forward.
"This entrance is clearly man-made," Seven remarked. "Look at the marks on the walls where tools have been used." With the light from their flashlights, the other two could see it clearly as well.
Second commented, "If they were going to dig, why not make a bigger hole? Crawling like this is exhausting!"
Wang Er Gou replied, "This must be something they want to keep hidden!"
Seven pondered this and said, "That’s very likely."
Wang Er Gou continued, "Moreover, this entrance was constructed in a hurry; it seems they did it just to avoid drawing attention."
Second exclaimed loudly, "Who would go through all that trouble just to make an entrance? It’s not practical!"
"Perhaps this is an exit for escape."
Wang Er Gou said leisurely, "This should be a Burrow."
"Burrow?" Seven repeated, and Wang Er Gou continued, "In this ancient land, there exists a group of Tomb Raiders. They usually target large Tombs for plundering. However, this profession carries high risks. It's easy to lose one's life!"
Second said indignantly, "These people deserve it for doing such immoral things!"
Wang Er Gou fell silent, and Seven spoke up, "I once read in an ancient book that large Tombs require many workers to construct. In the final stages of completion, those who are left behind often cannot escape and end up trapped inside the Tomb. Later builders learned from this and would create an exit within the Tomb for escape."
Wang Er Gou replied, "That's not impossible!"
The group had now resorted to crawling forward.
"Is this path ever going to end?" Second complained slightly. At this point, no one else spoke. After a while, they finally crawled out, their faces covered in dust as they brushed off the grime.
"This must be a Tomb pit," Wang Er Gou said. Seven nodded in agreement. Second remarked, "It seems Er Gou really does have some skills."
Saying this, he patted Wang Er Gou's shoulder with force. Wang Er Gou was caught off guard by the gesture and responded with a shy smile.
Wang Er Gou said, "You're flattering me, Brother Cao."
Seven chuckled a few times and said, "This is a closed space; we need to make a mark here. Otherwise, if something happens later, we'll have a way out."
After they made their marks, Seven suggested, "Let's turn off the flashlight."
Light the torch. Because here, one does not know what they might encounter. A flashlight is more convenient than a torch, but the torch provides stronger illumination.
Once the torch was lit, a Tomb Pit appeared before everyone’s eyes. It was an arched, enclosed space. And it was empty; there was nothing inside.
The area was about forty to fifty square meters, with a height of around three meters.
“Is this a burial pit? Why is there nothing here?” Second asked uncertainly.
Wang Er Gou was also unsure, but Seven confidently stated, “It must be.” Since there was a Burrow or an escape route here, this Tomb Pit would inevitably be empty.
“What do you mean?” Wang Er Gou asked. Suddenly realizing, he added, “Are you saying ‘Self-Embezzlement’?”
“That’s not impossible. Since they have already escaped, how could they not think about the priceless treasures inside?”
“Perhaps.”
While the two were analyzing, Second had already started observing inside the pit and suddenly shouted, “Seven, come over here and take a look; there are those symbols!”
Seven immediately ran over. Indeed, there were symbols carved inside that matched those in the Underground Swamp. Seven looked carefully but didn’t recognize any of them.
What on earth are these things?
Wang Er Gou leaned in for a closer look and suddenly gasped in horror, saying, “Why are there also these symbols here?”
“What’s wrong?” Second asked, startled by Wang Er Gou’s sudden exclamation. After recovering from his shock, Wang Er Gou said, “I’ve seen this before at that altar.”
Seven’s expression turned serious as he asked, “You mean that altar also had these symbols?”
"Indeed," Wang Er Gou said decisively. Second was now lost in confusion. "Forget it, let's keep moving," he said, and soon they discovered a mural.
Mural paintings typically depict the life stories of the tomb owner, usually highlighting their great achievements. Who would bring their shameful deeds into the grave after death?
Second examined the mural closely. At first, it felt interesting, like reading a comic book, but his expression changed as the image of the "girl" reappeared.
The lingering presence was unsettling; he feared that nothing good would come from this place, Second thought to himself.
The other two approached to observe as well. Noticing Second standing there motionless, Seven patted him on the shoulder and called out, "Second." There was no response.
Wang Er Gou also called out, "Brother Cao." Still, there was no movement.
Wang Er Gou hurriedly said, "He must be possessed; quickly, give his forehead a tap." Without hesitation, Seven reached out and tapped Second's forehead.
Second seemed to awaken from a dream and asked, "What happened?"
"Nothing," Seven replied.
Second continued, "Look over here." Seven leaned in to take a look. His expression mirrored Second's when he first saw it; however, after just one glance, he quickly turned away. The painting felt ominous, and he informed Wang Er Gou of his feelings.
Wang Er Gou glanced at the girl's portrait and felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity but couldn't quite place who she was.
