Third was the first to step into the passage opened by the White Python, followed closely by the other three. As Second entered the passage, White Python slithered back, watching the hole where they had exited until they completely disappeared. It hung its head low, looking dejected like a person. After a while, it began to write a series of strange runes in the dirt with its tail. Miraculously, the wall that had been broken began to heal itself, returning to its original state. 0

Meanwhile, the four who were still walking through the passage each carried their share of wealth. 0

Seven remarked, “With so much treasure, we could live comfortably for several lifetimes.” Wang Er Gou patted his already stuffed pockets and said, “Hu Brother, money is just an external possession,” but before he could finish his sentence. 0

Second interrupted angrily, “You two should stop talking nonsense now that we have something good. It’s best to keep quiet.” 0

Seven laughed and replied, “Second is right. Now that we have money, let’s not draw attention to ourselves. Don’t you agree, Ergou Master?” Wang Er Gou nodded in agreement. 0

Third, leading the way, moved forward with the dim light of a firecracker. 0

After walking for a while, Third noticed white light shining through and guessed they might be nearing the exit. He quickened his pace as the light grew brighter. “The exit is ahead,” he announced. 0

The other three perked up and quickened their steps as well. 0

They had lost track of how many days it had been since they last saw natural light. The moment they stepped out of the passage, they instinctively raised their hands to shield their eyes from the sunlight. 0

“Damn it, the light is so intense,” Second shouted. 0

The group looked like refugees, their clothes tattered and worn, their faces showing signs of extreme fatigue with vacant expressions in their eyes. They appeared as if they had been drained of all energy. 0

Third’s earlier judgment was correct; this exit was located at the foot of a mountain, but it was not at the base where they had started their search for the ancient temple; rather, it was on the backside of the entire mountain. 0

Their bodies were exhausted from exertion, and soon their stomachs began to protest. However, they all collapsed on a barren slope at the foot of the mountain, too lazy to move. 0

Today, there was no sunlight; the light was somewhat soft. It was only because a few people hadn’t seen natural light for several days that it felt so dazzling. After a while, they adapted to it. 0

“Rain will start falling in less than three quarters of an hour,” Seven suddenly said. 0

“Bullshit, can’t you feel how strong the sunlight is?” Second retorted. Wang Er Gou sighed, “It feels like we’ve been away for ages!” “Damn it, Er Gou, when I first met you, you weren’t this refined!” Second added. 0

Wang Er Gou chuckled and replied, “Back then, I had to make a living; I had no choice but to act that way.” 0

Second grunted in response but didn’t say anything more. Seven’s prediction about the rain went ignored. The spirits and bodies of the group relaxed, giving rise to a sense of lethargy; they just couldn’t muster the energy to get up. 0

Third felt the same way, lying on the ground without wanting to speak or move. He reflected on what had happened inside; ‘sorcery’ was a forbidden practice in his family. How could this be? Third couldn’t make sense of it all; many things were becoming increasingly convoluted. The more he knew, the more chaotic it felt, and he sighed. 0

Suddenly, Seven added, “It’s really going to rain soon.” Second shot a sideways glance at Third while reclining on the ground with one leg crossed over the other. He looked up at the sky again. To the naked eye, the white clouds were slowly turning dark; many black clouds had already gathered together. 0

Wang Er Gou sneezed as a cold wind swept through. He hugged himself tightly; it seemed like rain was indeed on its way. 0

Yet none of them got up. 0

“What’s wrong with getting caught in the rain? A heavy downpour would save me from having to find a place to take a shower,” Second said boldly. 0

Third didn’t mind either. 0

The four continued to chat idly, completely unconcerned about the impending rain. After about a quarter of an hour, Seven announced that the rain was about to fall. 0

The other three didn’t respond; the cold wind continued to blow, and the area covered by dark clouds grew larger. The previous bright light had completely vanished. 0

Dark clouds obscured the sky, and it seemed that night was hastening to cover the earth. 0

“It’s really going to rain,” Wang Er Gou murmured. “Yeah!” Third replied. “Who cares!” Second added. 0

The group, now wealthy landowners, spoke of their plans. Second said, “Once we help Er Gou take revenge, we can return to a peaceful life.” 0

Seven laughed, “Second, you’re right. By then, I’ll marry ten or eight concubines.” Second immediately scolded Seven, “One should be content.” 0

Seven didn’t respond; he simply lay back and gazed at the already darkening sky. 0

Suddenly, a muffled thunder rumbled, deepening into a deafening roar as one clap followed another, shaking their eardrums. Accompanied by lightning that sliced through the air, the entire land and sky were illuminated in a pale brilliance. 0

Wang Er Gou weakly suggested, “Should we find a place to shelter from the rain?” Seven replied, “A true man doesn’t shy away from immediate difficulties; preserving our lives is what matters!” 0

The thunder rolled on, and lightning streaked across the sky, piercing through the thick black clouds as if it could strike down at any moment. 0

Third stood up steadily and said, “Let’s go! Find a place to take cover.” 0

The oppressive clouds loomed over the city like an impending storm; the wind grew stronger. Second cursed, “Damn it! We just stepped out and ran into this mess.” 0

The heavy rain seemed to press down from above as the clouds struggled to hold on. Lightning flashed like reinforcements, splitting the clouds apart. 0

“Let’s make a run for it!” Second urged, and without further ado, they hoisted their belongings and set off. 0

They ran through the darkened streets as the wind howled fiercely against them, slightly hindering their steps. 0

"Seven said, 'It's raining.' As soon as the words left his mouth, it was like a newborn baby hitting the ground, crying out with tears pouring down. The raindrops, as big as beans, fell heavily, unleashing what seemed like the heavens' pent-up sweat. 0

'Damn it, these raindrops are huge!' Second shouted. The impact on his body was surprisingly painful. 0

At first, it was like raindrops falling on lotus leaves—one drop, another drop, easily counted. But soon, it turned into a torrential downpour that came crashing down all at once. 0

In an instant, everyone was soaked to the skin. They continued to run with all their might. 0

'What the hell! It's like this rain has a grudge against us!' Second exclaimed just as a rumble of thunder echoed, drowning out his voice with a booming sound. 0

Wang Er Gou said, 'Brother Cao, don’t speak loudly when it’s thundering; otherwise, you’ll attract divine punishment.' 0

Second stubbornly shut his mouth. Seven complained, 'We should have run earlier.' 0

'And you say! Knowing it was going to rain and still not running. Why put ourselves through this?' Second chimed in at the right moment. Seven was left speechless. 0

'Let’s hurry!' Wang Er Gou urged. 0

'What’s the point of running now? We’re already drenched,' Second said, awakening everyone from their daze. 'We’re soaked through; what’s the use of running? The lightning won’t kill us.' 0

They had probably been running for about a quarter of an hour when Third suddenly said, 'There’s a thatched cottage ahead; let’s go there to take shelter from the rain.'" 0
