Second didn't care about much anymore. When he clearly saw that the three people descending the mountain were indeed members of the archaeological team, it didn't matter much. The key point was that he also spotted Liu Kou.
Second felt a surge of anger and rushed forward to take them down. However, as he got closer, something felt off. He glanced at them again; they were still grinning widely, their laughter growing increasingly eerie and cold.
"Still pretending to be mysterious," Second muttered.
As he grabbed one person's collar, Wang Er Gou, who was behind him, sensed something was wrong but couldn't shout in time.
The moment Second's hand touched one of them, he found he couldn't budge him an inch.
Second exerted force and looked directly at the person, only to realize that his eyes were wrong—constantly rolling back in his head. There was also a strong stench of decay emanating from him.
The person Second had grabbed ignored him completely and slowly squatted down, placing something on the ground. Second, following the motion, was pulled down as well.
Panic began to rise within Second; he wanted to retreat but found that he couldn't free his hand from the person's body.
The others continued to emit their chilling laughter, their gazes fixed on Second. Their faces were cold and lifeless, like corpses buried for a thousand years.
At that moment, a gunshot rang out as Wang Er Gou fired directly at the person.
Second seized the opportunity to break free. The man let out a scream and lunged at Second, fainting from the pain. His skin gradually regained its color.
Seven quickly shouted, "Second, come over here!"
Suppressing his inner panic, Second kicked the man away and ran over.
Three figures stood mechanically, slowly turning their heads to follow Second's silhouette.
At that moment, Third and Xin Shui Su arrived as well.
"Stay away from them," Xin Shui Su warned. Second took a deep breath and exhaled sharply, cursing, "Damn it, this is terrifying."
"What on earth are these people?" Wang Er Gou speculated, "Maybe they are possessed by ghosts."
Third glanced at the figures and noticed their faces were deathly pale, as if they had just crawled out of the ground.
"They are possessed by Yin Ling," Xin Shui Su stated.
Upon hearing her confirmation, the others felt a chill run down their spines. Damn it, they had really encountered ghosts this time.
"What do we do now?" Second asked, panic evident in his voice. It was the first time facing something like this, and it was genuinely frightening.
Wang Er Gou had some knowledge about this; he had heard of it before but never took it seriously, so he couldn't recall the specific methods to deal with it. However, he vaguely remembered something and said, "We can drive away the Yin Ling by hitting their foreheads."
Xin Shui Su shook her head. "That method won't work. They've been buried underground for too long, waiting for this opportunity. Now they can even move around during the day; they must be Evil Spirits."
Wang Er Gou disregarded the common belief that ghosts couldn't appear during the day. His face changed instantly.
Third remained silent, quietly observing the three Yin Ling ahead. They made a slow motion of placing the antiques they had dug out from the Tomb onto the ground.
"Severe pain can also drive them away," Third whispered, pointing to the person still lying on the ground. The other four glanced down at him.
A glimmer of hope surfaced in their hearts. Second said, "With that in mind, why should we fear them? Let's take out our guns; one shot each should do!"
But as the people on the ground slowly got back up, it felt like a heavy blow had extinguished the flickering hope they had just ignited. A few exchanged glances.
"Today is not going to end well," Seven said.
The person who had just stood up had turned pale again, but blood continued to flow from the wound.
The three Yin Lings let out eerie laughter that sent chills down their spines.
Second couldn't help but curse, "In broad daylight, we still run into ghosts." He then whispered to the others, "Let's get out of here!"
Having developed a tacit understanding and experience, they were ready to flee when they noticed the Yin Ling slowly approaching them.
Seven asked, "Master Second, do you have any tricks left?" Wang Er Gou forced a smile and replied, "No tricks left."
Second responded, "Then what are we waiting for? Let's run!" With that, he took a few steps forward, only to collide face-to-face with a Yin Ling.
The group screamed in fright and quickly retreated, only to find that Yin Lings surrounded them on all sides.
Xin Shui Su and Third remained motionless. The three who had been startled cursed, "Damn it! They were moving so slowly just now; how did they suddenly become faster than ghosts?"
"Shit! They are ghosts!" Second added.
It seemed that running away was not an option. Since brute force wouldn't work, they had to try a softer approach. Seven thought for a moment and then said, "Dear ghost gentlemen, we bear no grudge against you. Please spare us!"
The others looked at Seven with disdain. He quickly fell silent as Second spoke up again, "We ask you kindly to open your eyes and let us pass."
The group looked at Second in surprise. He chuckled and said, "A wise man doesn't suffer losses in front of him; besides, we are dealing with ghosts here."
No one spoke. The few Yin Lings remained unyielding, continuing to smile to themselves.
It seemed that a more forceful approach was the only option left. "Damn it, at least say something! Let me know what you want!" Second cursed.
Now there was no way to run, and fighting was futile. If only he had known better than to provoke them; it was too late for regrets.
At that moment, Third spoke up, "Everyone, try not to panic."
The others steadied their nerves; after all, they were already facing death, so what was there to fear from these beings?
Third felt uncertain as well. Although this wasn't the first time he had encountered such supernatural entities, the last experience...
Xin Shui Su, who had been standing beside Third, appeared calm and showed no signs of fear.
The five of them found their escape routes blocked, yet the Yin Lings did not advance; they simply surrounded them. It was unclear what their intentions were.
"This must be the restless spirits buried in the grave!" Second remarked.
Seven noticed a detail and said, "Could it be that the Tomb Raiders died inside?" Second looked at Seven with confusion, prompting Seven to explain, "Look at what they're holding; they seem to be guarding those items carefully." Seven added, "I can tell at a glance that those are exquisite antiques."
Second expressed his astonishment, "These Tomb Raiders are really dedicated!"
Wang Er Gou glanced around and said, "The location of that Tomb doesn’t seem like one that would produce Evil Spirits. I’m afraid Hu Brother is right. They must have triggered some traps inside and died, which could have turned them into Evil Spirits."
The Yin Lings still did not move forward. Unintentionally, Second realized they might be afraid of something!
Second observed closely; everyone seemed uneasy. When they approached Xin Shui Su, he said, "If you dare to stare at me, I'll gouge your eyes out."
After Second retreated to the side, looking somewhat sheepish, it seemed that they were genuinely afraid of someone among us.
But who could it be? The most likely candidate now appeared to be Xin Shui Su, the Strong Person. Only she could possess such an aura.
Thinking this, Second felt a sense of relief and began to laugh.
Seven looked at Second's inexplicable laughter and asked, "Second, what are you laughing about?"
Second shot a glare at Seven and said, "Don't be scared; we have a protective charm." She pointed at Xin Shui Su as she spoke.
Seven still didn't quite understand, so Second explained, "Did you not see that they don't dare to come near us?"
Only then did Seven realize. Wang Er Gou, standing nearby, also felt a strange sense of calm after hearing this. The three of them glanced at Xin Shui Su simultaneously. She sensed their gaze but said nothing.
"It's time," Xin Shui Su said softly, as if speaking to herself or perhaps to Third.
Third looked at Xin Shui Su. His face was still pale; the pain from his old injuries made him appear frail. He nodded at Xin Shui Su.
Third cut into his own skin, and blood slowly began to seep out. Second hurriedly shouted, "Third, what are you doing?" She stepped forward to stop him.
Third shook his head with a smile and said, "It's fine." Xin Shui Su continued to watch Third as his blood trickled out.
Seeing the blood, Seven's expression turned worried as he said, "Third, don't do anything foolish!"
Xin Shui Su calmly replied, "Blood can dispel these Yin Spirits." Looking at the others who seemed about to speak up, she quickly silenced them with a single statement: "Only his will work."
Second had already drawn her dagger to her wrist but slowly lowered it upon hearing those words.
As the blood continued to flow from Third, his already pale face gradually turned a ghastly white. The Yin Ling nearby also appeared uneasy, yet their eerie cries persisted, unnoticed by the others. Everyone's attention had shifted entirely to Third.
It seemed they were afraid of him; this was evident to all.
Once the container that Xin Shui Su had brought was filled with blood, she quickly bandaged Third. The others barely caught a glimpse of what she was doing, but it was clear that Third looked even weaker after the ordeal.
After Xin Shui Su finished wrapping him up, the group hurried over to support Third.
Xin Shui Su stared at the bowl of blood, lost in thought, and without hesitation, she plunged one hand into it.
Yin Ling seemed to sense something powerful and began to weaken, growing restless as he approached the group cautiously, as if testing the waters.
Before they could get any closer, Xin Shui Su took action.
The others watched in shock as she stepped directly in front of Yin Ling. He reached out as if to strangle her, but she acted as if she didn't see him. When her hand touched his forehead,
Yin Ling's parasitic entity collapsed to the ground with a shriek that sent chills down the spines of the others.
Is that all it took? Seven asked in disbelief.
