"Is everything alright now?" Second murmured.
Looking at the several people sprawled on the ground, it seemed that calm had returned, and the sky had cleared up. The fear that had lingered in their hearts was slowly dissipating.
Xin Shui Su crouched down to check the breathing of those individuals; they were alive. After confirming this, Xin Shui Su stood up and wiped the blood off their hands.
Glancing over at Third, a sense of relief washed over her. She knew he was not seriously hurt, but... thinking of this made her sigh.
"Alright," Xin Shui Su said.
Second looked at the people on the ground and instructed, "Tie them up." Then Seven got up and quickly found some vines to bind the individuals.
One person's wound was still bleeding, so Seven applied a makeshift bandage.
"Can we notify the archaeological team now?" Seven asked, glancing at Second. Second looked at Third, who then glanced at Xin Shui Su. Afterward, Xin Shui Su replied, "Yes," and exhaled.
Second stood up while Seven helped Third to his feet.
As Second walked away, they glanced at Liu Kou lying on the ground and cursed, "You almost tricked me into going over there," before kicking him in frustration.
Then they retraced their steps back. The entire archaeological team was still waiting in place, with the fire still burning brightly.
After Second relayed the news, the entire archaeological team erupted in excited cheers because once they completed their mission, they could descend from the mountain. No more staying in this cursed place.
The team quickly packed up and set off.
They only needed to confirm the location of the Tomb; further archaeological work would be handled by subsequent teams.
When they arrived at the Tomb's location and saw the four bound individuals, Second explained everything again. Upon hearing this, they all expressed outrage, with several Old Fossils trembling with anger.
The old professor had passed away the night before. Upon hearing the news, Third let out a faint sigh but soon felt a sense of relief. Death was not necessarily a bad thing.
The four individuals who were bound had yet to awaken. One girl had already died in the Tomb. To gain ill-gotten wealth, one must pay the price.
A few Old Fossils approached the entrance of the Tomb, shining their flashlights inside. Their faces could hardly contain their excitement as they shouted, "Yes, this is the Tomb! It has at least several thousand years of history—truly a National Treasure!"
Second chuckled mockingly, thinking to himself, "Isn't Tomb Raiding just like archaeology? Digging up graves and tombs." Yet he also felt relieved; they had finally completed this task.
The Old Fossils urged, "Hurry up and prepare to secure the site."
The first rule of archaeology is to protect the site. This is done to better preserve the relics and restore the most authentic history for future generations to admire.
The archaeological team quickly got to work. Although their outdoor survival skills were relatively weak, they were professionals when it came to their field. Each person grabbed their tools and moved forward.
Third and his companions stood by, watching.
Weren't these people supposed to be confirming the authenticity and exact location of the ancient tomb? Why were they starting to take action? Second wondered.
An archaeologist passing by said, "Our first priority is to protect the site from damage," smiling at Second as he spoke. "If it weren't for you guys, we might not be able to complete our mission."
Second waved his hand dismissively and replied, "It's a small matter."
The archaeologist smiled and went over to help.
The Old Fossils were in a state of excitement, directing personnel on what to do. Just as Third and his companions tried to approach, one of the Old Fossils said, "Non-professionals are not allowed near."
The group awkwardly stepped back.
At that moment, the bound individuals began to awaken. These people might be hiding unspeakable secrets.
Their spirits seemed a bit erratic, somewhat dazed.
When Second shouted at them, they snapped back to reality. Panic was evident on their faces, except for Liu Kou. The others mumbled incoherently, while Liu Kou remained calm and shouted at the others, "What are you panicking for? If we’re caught today, we’ll accept it."
The three of them no longer dared to confront Liu Kou as they had before; instead, they cowered in fear. Among the four was a stranger whom none of them had seen before.
Second asked, "Who is this person?"
One replied honestly, "This is our accomplice."
Second continued, "Do you have any other accomplices?" They shook their heads. Second pressed on, "Did you kill that person?"
At this question, even Liu Kou shook his head and said, "We only seek wealth; we won't harm anyone's life."
At that moment, Third spoke up, "You were possessed by Yin Ling earlier." After he finished speaking, the others looked incredulous.
Second added, "Fortunately, we saved you; otherwise, you wouldn't even know how you died."
One person said, "No wonder we felt something was off with our bodies." Liu Kou remarked, "We all prayed for charms before entering the tomb; how could this happen..."
Third interrupted him, saying, "Many things are unforeseen; there's no need to doubt."
Liu Kou swallowed the unfinished words. His expression darkened slightly as he said, "Since you've caught us, I might as well tell you everything."
The others were still struggling and shouting. Liu Kou yelled at them, "Shut the hell up!"
Liu Kou slowly continued, "About half a month ago, we heard that a tomb was discovered in the Eastern Guan Mountain Range. When we were preparing to go alone, we were informed that the government had also dispatched an archaeological team. So the five of us decided to blend in with the archaeological team and look for an opportunity to take advantage of the situation. We had been searching for opportunities, but once we ascended the mountain, things went awry. This archaeological team was not as professional as we imagined. Then you all joined us," he glanced at Third and the others. "Your appearance disrupted our plans."
"When the guide and team leader disappeared, it was a perfect opportunity for us to slip away. We had already confirmed the location of the ancient tomb."
"But because of your presence, our actions were hindered. However, later there was a turning point; two people actually died at a time when everyone was on edge. We seized this opportunity and staged a conflict."
"After that, we looked for opportunities." Liu Kou sighed as he spoke. "What I didn't expect was that you all discovered the Tomb, forcing me to take action and inform them that it was time to wrap things up."
"But it was still too late. Eventually, you all found out," he said, trailing off.
Seven asked, "Do you have no connection with that leader at all?"
Liu Kou replied, "We don't know him at all."
Third then inquired, "What did you find in the Tomb?"
Upon hearing this question, they hesitated and struggled to articulate their thoughts. Liu Kou, however, remained calm and addressed the other three, saying, "There's nothing we can't talk about."
They exchanged glances with Liu Kou and confirmed before responding, "This Tomb is quite large, and there are many Burial Goods. We only took a few small items and didn't delve deeply inside, so we don't really understand the structure within."
"How long did you stay inside?"
"About five hours," one person answered.
Liu Kou added, "We've said everything we needed to say; do as you wish with it."
At that moment, Wang Er Gou also asked, "Are you from the Tomb Raiding Sect?"
They did not respond to this question.
Second chimed in, "Do you know Zhou Li and that rascal Da Feng?"
After mentioning the names of the two individuals, Liu Kou's expression changed slightly, and he said with some surprise, "You know my master?"
"Damn," Second cursed, "Who is your master?"
Liu Kou replied, "Dafeng." "Damn it, Dafeng can still take on disciples?"
Liu Kou insisted, "You can't slander my master." Second retorted, "What's wrong with me cursing him?"
Liu Kou turned his head away from Second.
Second was amused by the exchange and said, "Since you're that brat's disciple, I'll let you go this time." With that, he took out a dagger and cut the vines binding them.
After freeing them, Liu Kou expressed his gratitude and then stepped back.
The archaeological team continued their busy work. Once everything was wrapped up, only one mystery remained: the disappearance of His Second Uncle and the team leader.
The archaeological team had already sent someone down the mountain to notify authorities; it was expected that within a day or two, government personnel would arrive.
Third said, "We should get going." Second nodded in agreement. Seven was cradling some antiques they had brought out from the Tomb earlier and was praising them to Wang Er Gou.
After being scolded by Second, Seven returned the items to the archaeological team.
They then departed, and the archaeological team paid them no mind. Xin Shui Su also followed Third and the others.
Third asked, "Is there a problem with the team leader?" Remembering that Xin Shui Su had said it was the team leader who invited her, Xin Shui Su shook her head and replied, "No."
Third did not press further. It seemed that only His Second Uncle remained suspicious; however, His Second Uncle did not appear to be a bad person. Many things were still shrouded in mystery.
Wang Er Gou looked rather downcast. Now, with matters concerning him in these mountains, it was time to reach a conclusion.
This time, it was possible that his Second Uncle would also be involved. Thinking of this, Wang Er Gou slowly raised his head to look at the sky.
The sunlight was as brilliant as ever.
An ancient altar stood atop a mountain peak, overgrown with grass and trees, while a group of people were busy tidying up.
The location of the altar was quite hidden, making it difficult for anyone to find.
A cloaked figure stood before the altar, contemplating, "This is the last chance. If I fail again, then it must be fate."
As he let out a long sigh, the clouds in the sky seemed to shift a little faster.
Relying on his memory, Wang Er Gou walked in that direction. However, navigating through the terrain was futile without a precise location.
After wandering for a while, Wang Er Gou said, "We can only go down the mountain first and take the original path."
The others had no objections to Wang Er Gou's suggestion; it was a good opportunity to rest before gearing up to head back up the mountain. The five of them descended together. Upon returning to the village, Wang Er Gou removed his disguise. As soon as he entered the village, an elderly woman recognized him.
The people in the mountains were simple and warm-hearted towards Wang Er Gou. Perhaps it was because Third and his group were also friends of Wang Er Gou that they received such a warm welcome.
This was not like the previous celebrations filled with singing and dancing; this homely reception felt much more genuine.
