But why could her traces be seen everywhere? Why did the corpse appear here? Was there something special about this place?
Suddenly, a thought struck in his mind—the ancient altar in the Eastern Guan Mountain Range. It had to be related to the ancient altar. Otherwise, how could her corpse have ended up here?
No one answered Dafu's words.
Zhou Li seemed lost in thought. Dafu also froze.
At that moment, Second spoke up, "It's best not to touch her; otherwise, you'll surely be unlucky."
Dafu believed Second's words because he felt the same way inside.
A faint, unusual fragrance wafted through the air from the coffin.
The searchlight was strong but not very durable; its light was growing dimmer. The unease that had previously settled in their hearts resurfaced.
Suddenly, Zhou Li said, "We should leave here as soon as possible! We can't stay any longer."
Dafu was taken aback, thinking those words couldn't have come from Zhou Li. Zhou Li's face had turned even paler, and it seemed like sweat was forming on his forehead.
Second asked Zhou Li, "Are you feeling unwell?"
Zhou Li shook his head and repeated his earlier statement.
Having searched for treasures together with Zhou Li for so many years, Dafu had never seen him so panicked before. Without hesitation, Dafu began to pack up and prepare to leave.
The lights suddenly went out, possibly due to a power shortage. When they flickered back on, the Main Palace had become a sealed-off space, with both the Front Hall and Rear Hall blocked.
Zhou Li came to a halt, his breathing becoming heavier.
Third snapped back to reality; the abrupt situation made the already uneasy group start to feel restless.
However, the most panicked of them all was not the expected Wang Er Gou, but Zhou Li.
Zhou Li murmured, "Patriarch, please bless me! I have come to a place I should not be; please forgive me, Patriarch."
Dafeng followed behind Zhou Li, carrying something. But he couldn't hear what Zhou Li was saying, only catching snippets of his incoherent muttering.
Dafeng asked Zhou Li, "What are you saying?"
Zhou Li seemed to ignore Dafeng as if he were air, continuing his incessant chanting. As his emotions escalated, he dropped to his knees, still murmuring without pause.
Dafeng was at a loss for what to do.
Third walked over and calmly said, "He's too tense; let him rest for a moment." With that, he knocked Zhou Li unconscious.
Zhou Li collapsed onto the ground, sweat still beading on his forehead.
Dafeng watched over Zhou Li with concern.
The light of the Searchlight was growing dimmer.
Third glanced at Zhou Li, who was lying on the ground, and asked Dafu, "When did you start following him?"
Dafu replied honestly, "He is my senior brother, but he is younger than me. He has been with the master since he was young, while I joined the sect more than ten years later."
"Later, when the master passed away, he became the leader. Since then, I have been following him. We have raided many tombs together, but nothing like this has ever happened. He has always been calm and composed in his work. But how could this…?" He sighed, recalling how he ended up joining the army by a twist of fate.
Third understood. He continued, "Has he ever experienced any trauma?"
Dafu shook his head and said, "Not while I was with him, but I don't know about before that."
After asking these questions, Third fell silent.
The Searchlight was about to go out completely. A strange atmosphere enveloped everyone. Suddenly, there was a 'crack' as the Searchlight extinguished.
Instantly, darkness shrouded the area. However, someone quickly turned on a flashlight.
Seven joked, "Ergou Master, you're quick with that!"
Wang Er Gou chuckled a few times but didn't respond. Soon after, Seven turned on his flashlight as well, followed by Second.
Third said, "Don't turn them all on; one is enough. Light is precious in this kind of environment." The others understood Third's meaning.
So only Wang Er Gou's flashlight remained lit.
The fiery red coffin contained a perfect corpse, exposed to the air but now shrouded in darkness.
Wang Er Gou wondered if he was seeing things, as he thought he saw light emanating from within the coffin, though it flickered and vanished almost instantly. He rubbed his eyes, and the coffin lay peacefully on the stone platform, showing no signs of anything unusual. Still, Wang Er Gou instinctively stepped back a little.
A few people were trapped here. However, they were not as panicked as one might expect because they knew that wherever there were mechanisms, there would surely be an exit.
Second asked Dafu, "Do we have any explosives left?"
Dafu replied that they did not. Second felt a bit disappointed; he had hoped to blow open the sealed door directly.
The group had gained a general understanding of the structure of the Main Palace, with only the corpse lying there remaining a mystery. Their greatest fear stemmed from that body. Additionally, they faced issues with food and water. While outside, they could gather food from the forest, so they had discarded their supplies.
Now each person had only one flask of water left.
It was said that a person could survive three days on just water, but the body would quickly deteriorate. By then, surviving those three days would not be guaranteed.
Another concern was oxygen. In a confined space, once sealed off, oxygen would become limited.
They needed to find an exit; otherwise, even if they didn't starve to death, they would suffocate.
Third thought that perhaps Zhou Li knew something.
He approached the two blocked exits; both were the same, with heavy stone doors pressed down onto the ground.
Second followed him, still holding the Submachine Gun, which had yet to be fired. As he got closer, Second slapped his forehead and said, "How could I forget about this? I still have this thing; let's see if I can shoot through the door."
Looking at the Submachine Gun held by Second, Third said, "Don't shoot yet. Let me see if there are any mechanisms."
Second nodded and replied, "Don't worry, I won't fire without your command."
Third crouched down, carefully feeling every inch of the stone door, but found nothing. He also checked the walls and the top of the door. The top was impossible to reach; it was too high, Second remarked.
After checking, they found no mechanisms, and the other door was the same.
Second was starting to lose patience, preparing to fire a burst of bullets.
At that moment, Third had no other choice but to agree to shoot.
Before firing, Second notified the others. He positioned himself in front of the stone door they had entered through since none of them planned to move forward. This place was becoming increasingly eerie, and they feared something might happen. Besides, Zhou Li, a member of their Tomb Raiding group, could no longer hold on; there was no need to linger here.
However, Third still had something she couldn't let go of; she also came down, unsure if it was safe.
Second wasted no time and fired a burst of bullets at the stone door. Sparks flew as the bullets quickly ran out, and everyone gathered around to watch.
When they got closer, disappointment washed over them; the stone door had only suffered minor damage. It seemed the Submachine Gun had little effect.
Second was about to fire again when Third stopped him. "Let's try that door instead."
When they reached that door, Second fired another burst without hesitation. With a loud bang as sparks flew, the stone door collapsed. Everyone was surprised and then elated. Being able to escape from this place meant there was still hope.
As the stone door fell, the entire tomb chamber trembled.
As a few of them stepped out of the Main Palace, they covered the coffin again, and the unsettling feeling immediately vanished.
"That woman is surely going to bring misfortune," murmured Second.
As he spoke, Dafa had already lifted Zhou Li onto his back.
They began to walk towards the Passageway. Although they couldn't leave, at least they could still move around, which was better than being trapped here.
According to Zhou Li, they would soon reach the Rear Hall of this ancient tomb. However, he had also mentioned that the tomb the archaeological team was currently excavating might be a false tomb, meant to conceal the true ancient tomb.
The Passageway wasn't long; Zhou Li was right. They soon entered another burial chamber, which should be the Rear Hall! The Rear Hall was where the Tomb Owner's Burial Goods were placed.
They could now confirm that the Tomb Owner was that girl.
However, as they stepped into this burial chamber, the previously eager Seven suddenly felt disappointed; there were no Burial Goods here at all.
Like the other two burial chambers, there lay a Fire-Red Coffin.
When the flashlight beam hit the crimson coffin, the light reflected off its surface and illuminated the walls. Yet this did not frighten or astonish them; what surprised them was that there was yet another fire-red coffin here.
In the first burial chamber, there was an empty coffin; in the second one, a body lay within its coffin. What about the third coffin?
They all pondered this question simultaneously: what would be inside the third coffin?
"Strange," Dafa suddenly said. The flashlight beam fell onto a passageway; this burial chamber, the so-called Rear Hall, turned out not to be their final destination.
A few people followed the beam of light from Da Feng's flashlight and indeed found another passageway. This meant that Zhou Li's analysis was incorrect.
At that moment, there was movement behind Da Feng; Zhou Li had awakened.
He slowly got up from Da Feng's back. Da Feng asked with concern, "Are you okay?" but his tone suggested he wasn't very calm.
In the light of the flashlight, Zhou Li's face appeared even paler. He coughed a few times and said, "I'm fine now."
Da Feng replied, "We've already passed the Main Palace." Zhou Li seemed too weak to speak much and merely nodded symbolically, his expression not looking good.
Third had initially wanted to ask him some questions, but seeing his condition, he decided to remain silent.
When Zhou Li saw the third fiery red coffin, his emotions became agitated again as he exclaimed, "Why is there a third one?"
But no one could provide him with an answer.
