I can't stay here any longer. Who knows what that crazy couple might do if I run into them again?
When I got home, I threw myself into my mom's arms and cried uncontrollably.
My mom was startled and quickly asked me what was wrong.
After a minute of sobbing, I calmed down and wiped my tears. "I broke up with Xiao An."
My mom didn't ask any questions because she knew how much I liked Xiao An. So when I took the initiative to end things, she was more surprised than anyone else.
Before my mom could say anything, my dad spoke up excitedly: "I told you not to get involved with that poor kid! You just wouldn't listen!"
"Look at you now; you've suffered for it!"
My mom shot him a fierce glare, and he fell silent.
She gently asked me, "Did Xiao An bully you?"
I shook my head. "He didn't."
"It was my decision to break up."
My mom looked astonished. "Really?"
I nodded. "Really."
"Don't worry, I'll listen to you from now on."
My mom hugged me tightly. "My dear daughter, you've finally come to your senses!"
"You are the only daughter your father and I have; this huge family business will be handed over to you."
"Since you've already broken up with Xiao An, it's time for you to focus and help your dad at the company."
I nodded. "Okay."
It wasn't until I took over the company that I realized...
It turned out that my father's business had entered a decline. His company was filled with a bunch of old-timers, stuck in their ways, lacking any innovation. To change this situation, fresh blood needed to be injected into the company. After I proposed my ideas, my father agreed wholeheartedly.
So, I began to implement sweeping reforms, hiring young talent while inviting popular stars to participate in brand activities. Just as I was busy enjoying the chaos of it all, I received a call from an unfamiliar number.
On the other end was an elderly voice: "Is this Xiaoyun?"
I frowned and thought for a moment. "Are you... Xiao An's mother?"
"Yes, that's me," Xiao An's Mother replied excitedly. "Xiaoyun, I heard you broke up with Xiao An?"
"Yes, that happened."
"Xiaoyun, you haven't come to see me with Xiao An very often. I was hoping you two would get married soon so I could share in your happiness."
"Who would have thought you two would break up?"
"Well, a breakup is a breakup. You were together for three years; there must have been some feelings there."
"Since you've broken up, then that's that."
"But Xiaoyun, I still want to ask you for a favor."
I frowned again. "What is it?"
"You see, it's so cold today, and I'm all alone at home."
"Could you come over and keep me company?"
Xiao An's Mother's voice was filled with grievance. I fell silent.
Seeing that I was not speaking, Xiao An's Mother grew a bit anxious. "Xiao Yun, I know you and Xiao An have broken up. Logically, I really have no right to ask you to come and keep me company."
"But you should also understand my situation."
"I'm just a lonely old woman, without children or family, and there's no one around to keep me company."
"Even if you don't want to see me for my sake, could you at least come visit me for the sake of my age?"
I took a deep breath and slowly replied, "Auntie, first of all, it is a fact that I broke up with Xiao An."
"Secondly, you're not alone; you have Xiao An and Huanhuan."
"Lastly, you know that I broke up with Xiao An, so why do you think I should come and keep you company?"
"You want me to come over just so I can be your caretaker, right?"

Xiao An's Mother was left speechless by my retort and remained silent for a while. I too stayed quiet, waiting for her to speak first.
