After a long silence, Xiao An's Mother finally spoke up.
"Xiao Yun, I know you're upset, and I understand that Xiao An has done something to hurt you."
"But think back to when Xiao An just graduated. I was in poor health, and our family was so poor we could barely afford a pot."
"At that time, Xiao An endured a lot of hardships."
"Then he met you. You treated him well, helped him start his company, and bought him a house."
"Our whole family is very grateful to you."
I let out a cold laugh. "Auntie, you're mistaken. I wasn't good to Xiao An; I was good to Huanhuan."
"Xiao An was just an add-on."
Xiao An's Mother had nothing more to say.
I continued, "Auntie, if there's nothing else, I'm hanging up."
"Also, please tell Xiao An to transfer the rent he owes me."
"Three months total twelve thousand, three thousand a month."
"Please send it over. Thank you."
On my way to the company for a meeting, I received a call from the police station.
They informed me that Liu Lan had been bailed out by Xiao An.
Xiao An even told the police that the cat in the surveillance video was Liu Lan's private property and that Liu Lan had merely educated the cat a little, which did not constitute a crime.
Merely educated?
Xiao An really has double standards.
My dog Jianjian was abandoned in the wild for three days and nights because of an accidental injury to Huanhuan.
But Liu Lan's abuse of the cat is just "merely educating"?
What kind of ridiculous logic is this!
I angrily hung up the phone on the police. Since the law couldn't punish Liu Lan, I would take matters into my own hands and ensure that Liu Lan received the punishment she deserved.
I pulled out my phone, found my best friend, and sent her screenshots of the videos showing Liu Lan abusing a cat and Xiao An holding her. My friend works in social media and was in need of content, so I was delivering exactly what she needed.
It didn't take long for my friend's video to be uploaded. With the explosive screenshots I provided, it quickly attracted a lot of views.
The car came to a steady stop outside the company building. As I opened the door, I spotted Xiao An standing there. I frowned and instinctively considered taking a detour.
Xiao An, sharp-eyed, noticed me and rushed over, grabbing my arm. "Xiao Yun, I need to talk to you."
I forcefully pulled my arm away from his grip. "Xiao An, we’ve broken up. Please respect that."
Before Xiao An could say anything else, he was blocked by the security guard who had arrived on the scene.
Xiao An shouted at the guard, "Get out of the way!"
The guard stood firm and unmoving.
Xiao An turned back to me. "Xiao Yun, there must be some misunderstanding between us. Let's find a place to talk this through."
I scoffed. "There’s no misunderstanding; we simply aren’t suited for each other."
Xiao An grew anxious. "Xiao Yun, don’t say things out of anger. You know I love you."
I shook my head. "Xiao An, love isn’t just something you say."
"Only real actions can prove your love for me."
"But what have you done?"
"You left Jianjian behind and took Huanhuan away."
"What do you want me to do?"
"Jianjian is my dog, raised by me. My bond with Jianjian is deeper than with you."
"But you abandoned Jianjian without hesitation for your first love."
"Xiao An, Jianjian is your dog, Huanhuan is your cat. What do I and Jianjian mean to you?"
"In your heart, I and Jianjian are not as important as Huanhuan. What right do you have to say you love me?"
Xiao An stood there, speechless.
I took a deep breath to calm myself. "Xiao An, just go. We have already broken up."
Xiao An stared at me blankly, his eyes red. "Xiaoyun, do you really want to break up with me?"
I nodded. "Yes."
