In a box nearly the size of a coffee table, there was a heap of Baby Supplies.
There were pacifiers, toys, clothes...
And a Baby Doll smeared with an unknown red liquid!
As soon as I realized what I was holding, I instinctively threw the Baby Doll away.
That eerie doll just sat quietly in the corner, staring at me with an unblinking gaze!
For a moment, my mind felt like it had short-circuited.
It went completely blank.
I trembled uncontrollably.
I wanted to scream out of fear, but my throat felt as if it had been constricted, and no sound would come out.
I had always been terrified of these children's items, especially various lifelike dolls.
Xinchuan used to tease me, calling it " James Wan's Syndrome."
Looking at that baby-like doll in the corner, I couldn't shake the feeling that it was a living being with a soul. Its big plastic eyes fixated on me, and its pouting mouth curved into a strange smile.
I had no idea what that red substance on it was.
Is it blood?
Or something else?
I didn't even have the courage to go over and take another look at it.
I instinctively stepped back, wanting nothing more than to distance myself from it, wishing I could leave this room immediately.
Only a few remnants of rationality remained to comfort me, telling me not to be afraid.
It was just a Plastic Doll; it couldn't possibly hurt me...
After forcing myself to calm down, I quickly took out my phone and called the hotel front desk to request security.
In the few minutes I waited for security to come upstairs, I finally convinced myself to muster the courage to approach the box on the table again.
I steeled myself and rummaged through its contents once more.
I had to know who sent these things to me.
However, aside from those items, there was no other useful information in the box.
The Sender had left no card, and there was no Delivery Receipt on the outside of the box.
I couldn't find a single clue.
Looking at this box of items...
For some reason, a jumble of fragmented memories flashed through my mind.
No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't piece together these fragmented memories into a complete picture.
My thoughts were chaotic, a multitude of questions piled up, suffocating me.
Who sent these things?
What did that person want to do?
Why did they send these to me?
None of these questions received an answer.
I attempted to calm myself, striving to organize my thoughts and speculate about the identity of the Sender.
Could it be Xinchuan?
He knows me best and is aware that I have always feared such things, so did he deliberately send these items to scare me?
No, that doesn't make sense.
What benefit would it bring him to frighten me?
If he truly wanted to quietly eliminate me because of an affair, he should be working to gain my trust and lure me back home instead.
But if it wasn't Xinchuan...
Could it be Chen Feiyang?
If what Xinchuan said was true, and the drunkard I encountered on the day of my incident was arranged by Chen Feiyang...
What was Chen Feiyang's purpose?
What did he mean by sending me these baby supplies?
I couldn't make sense of it at all.
Just then, there was a sudden knock at the door, breaking the silence in the room.
I gasped in surprise.
Fortunately, the person outside announced themselves without me having to ask...
"Hello, ma'am! I'm the Hotel Manager! May I ask if you need any assistance?"
It turned out to be someone from the hotel.
Hearing their polite greeting, I quickly went to open the door.
The Hotel Manager stood at the entrance with two security guards, smiling as she asked what had happened when I called the front desk earlier.
I promptly explained the situation to her.
"Someone delivered a bunch of strange items to my room. Could you please check if that person has registered upon entering? Also... could you help me dispose of those items?"
I stepped aside to let the hotel staff in, pointing at the box and the toys in the corner, still feeling a bit shaken.
The Hotel Manager was a young woman around my age.
She glanced in the direction I pointed, clearly startled by the blood-soaked Baby Doll.
"Ma'am, please wait! I'll have someone take care of this right away!"
The Hotel Manager hurriedly called over a security guard to clear away the mess.
However, just as the security guard passed by me with a large box, I suddenly recognized something inside.
I felt like I had seen it somewhere before...
"Wait!"
I immediately called out to the security guard.
I rushed forward and pulled an item of clothing from the large box he was holding.
It was a knitted little vest.
I examined it several times...
That's right!
This vest was hand-knitted by my Mom!
During my visits to the nursing home to see her, I always saw her knitting sweaters.
Each time, she would pull me close and say that this sweater was for her Grandson.
But she didn't have a Grandson.
I have been married to Xinchuan for quite some time now, and we still have no children.
However, I know that my mother is just hoping to hold her grandchild soon, which is why she has been thinking of weaving these things as a way to keep that hope alive.
So, I went along with her wishes.
But then...
I never expected to receive this "gift" from my mother, made by her own hands, under such circumstances!
I even doubted whether I was seeing it correctly.
So, I immediately turned on the brightest light in the room.
In the bright light, the knitted little vest lay quietly in my hands.
The colors of the pattern, the stitches...
There was no way I could be mistaken!
This was the very sweater my mother had been holding onto like a treasure just a few days ago!
Suddenly, my thoughts spiraled into confusion once again.
Could this whole box of items have been sent to me by my mother?
No, that couldn't possibly be the case...
Not to mention that my mother had no reason to do such a thing.
How could someone like her, who struggles to manage her own life, possibly accomplish this?
She doesn't even know that I am staying here today.
So...
If it wasn't her, who else could have taken this piece of clothing from her?
Mom treasures this outfit so much.
The only person who could have taken it must be someone she trusts.
I quickly counted all the people who usually come into contact with Mom.
Aside from the medical staff at the nursing home, there were only two individuals left.
One was her "good son-in-law," Xinchuan.
And the other...
Was the gentle and virtuous Zhang Yunxin she often spoke of!
