Sunlight streamed through the tall floor-to-ceiling windows, casting bright patches of light on the cool gray marble floor. Lin Yue stood in front of the headquarters of Lu Group, taking a deep breath as her heart raced.
Today, she was not just an ordinary assistant; she was stepping in for her twin sister, Lin Wan, to become the personal assistant to Lu Tingxiao—the man known for his cold efficiency in the business world.
Lin Wan had suddenly disappeared a week ago without a trace, leaving behind unfinished work and a worried family. As her twin sister, Lin Yue had to take on her sister's responsibilities while also trying to uncover the mystery of Lin Wan's disappearance.
She pushed open the revolving door and entered the spacious, bright lobby, where the receptionist greeted her with a smile. Lin Yue returned the smile and quickly made her way to the elevator. Just as the doors closed, her phone vibrated with a message from Lin Wan's friend: "Wanwan still hasn’t been found; you need to be careful."
A wave of complex emotions surged within Lin Yue; she had to be strong—for her sister and for their family.
When the elevator doors opened on the top floor, Lin Yue stepped into a whole new world. It was so quiet that she could almost hear her own breathing. She walked down the long corridor until she reached Lu Tingxiao's office. The door was half-open, and she gently knocked before pushing it open.
Lu Tingxiao stood by the window with his back to her, hands clasped behind him as if deep in thought. Hearing the door, he turned around, his deep-set eyes locking onto Lin Yue.
"Assistant Lin," his voice was calm and powerful, as if it could penetrate one's heart, "we have an important meeting today. I need you to take notes throughout. Are you ready?"
Lin Yue nodded; she knew there was no turning back now—she had to move forward. "I'm ready, Mr. Lu." Her voice trembled slightly, but her gaze remained firm.
Lu Tingxiao's eyes lingered on her face for a moment, as if searching for something. Then he gave a slight nod, signaling her to follow him into the conference room.
Lin Yue followed closely behind, silently encouraging herself; she had to prove herself—not only to keep this job but also to find clues about her sister's whereabouts.
Throughout it all, Lin Yue remained tense and fearful of being discovered, and Lu Tingxiao noticed every bit of it.
Lin Yue understood that she could no longer continue like this. Realizing her earlier lapse during the meeting, she felt a pang of regret.
Quickly adjusting her demeanor, she knocked on Mr. Lu's office door and handed him the folder in her hands. "Mr. Lu, here is today's schedule, including this morning's departmental meeting and the two business discussions in the afternoon."
Lu Tingxiao took the folder, glanced over the documents swiftly, then closed it and looked up at Lin Yue. "Very good, Assistant Lynn. I hope we can complete these tasks smoothly today."
Lin Yue nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She turned to leave but was called back by Lu Tingxiao.
"Wait a moment, Assistant Lynn." His voice carried a hint of concern that was barely perceptible. "You seem a bit nervous. Don't worry too much; I believe you can handle this."
Lin Yue turned back and met Lu Tingxiao's gaze, a wave of inexplicable warmth flooding her heart.
She smiled lightly, not expecting Lu Tingxiao to be momentarily taken aback, a flicker of something unusual passing through his eyes.
Under his prolonged stare, Lin Yue felt an unexpected blush creeping onto her cheeks.
