"Alright, stop sighing and just go to sleep," the system said.
"I'm not tired," Zhang Xiaoxiao retorted stubbornly.
"Not tired? You slept the entire afternoon," the system replied, rolling its eyes.

"You've been asleep all afternoon; your face is all puffy," the system answered.

She rushed to the yard and looked into the water tank.

"Just go back inside and sleep," the system urged.

"I did," Zhang Xiaoxiao replied firmly.
"..." The system was speechless.
"Sigh." Zhang Xiaoxiao let out a breath and then headed back inside.
She walked to the side of her bed, took off her outer clothing, lay down under the covers, and closed her eyes.
"Host, don't give up!" the system called out.
"I'm not giving up," Zhang Xiaoxiao answered with her eyes still shut.
"But you just said you're giving up?" the system questioned skeptically.
"I said I'm giving up on fighting, not that I'm giving up entirely," Zhang Xiaoxiao clarified.
"Then are you still going to fight against me?" the system asked.
"Fight!" Zhang Xiaoxiao said without hesitation.
"But you just said you wouldn't fight," the system replied, confused.
"That was then, this is now," Zhang Xiaoxiao answered.
"..." The system fell silent again.
"Host, I actually think you don't need to compete with me," the system said.
"Why?" Zhang Xiaoxiao asked curiously.
"Because you'll never win against me," the system replied.
"Shut up," Zhang Xiaoxiao said, feeling embarrassed and angry.
"Haha..." The system laughed heartily.
"Don't disturb me, I'm going to sleep," Zhang Xiaoxiao said.

After getting out of bed, she first went to the woodshed to check on the little fox.

After finishing her meal, Zhao Guangcai headed out to the mountains.
Zhang Xiaoxiao, having tidied up the dishes, sat in the courtyard lost in thought. Meanwhile, in the Li Family, Li Xiumei had also woken up. Sun Qiuhua was helping her get out of bed.
"Mother, where did you go just now?" Li Xiumei asked.
"I went outside to see if your father has returned," Sun Qiuhua replied.

"Xiu Mei, why did you suddenly come back?" Sun Qiuhua asked cautiously.
"I fell while coming back yesterday and fainted. By the time I woke up, I was already at home," Li Xiumei explained.
"I see," Sun Qiuhua said, realizing the situation.
"Mother, who brought me back?" Li Xiumei asked curiously.
"It was... it was me and a few villagers who brought you back," Sun Qiuhua said, deliberately omitting that Zhao Xiaosong had been the one to return her home because she didn't want Li Xiumei and Zhao Xiaosong to recognize each other.
"Oh," Li Xiumei said without suspicion.
"Xiu Mei, if you're tired, you can sleep a bit longer. You don't need to worry about your father," Sun Qiuhua suggested.
"Mother, I'm not tired; I'm just worried about Father," Li Xiumei replied.
"Sigh, your father really is something else; he had to go to the fields yesterday," Sun Qiuhua complained.
"Mother, don't worry; Father should be back soon," Li Xiumei reassured her.
"Sigh." Sun Qiuhua sighed again.
Seeing Li Xiumei's obedient demeanor made her even more determined not to let Li Xiumei and Zhao Xiaosong recognize each other. If Li Xiumei returned to the Zhao Family, she would surely be bullied. The thought of the Zhao Family's preference for sons over daughters filled Sun Qiuhua with even more concern.
"Mother, please don't worry; Father will be back soon," Li Xiumei comforted her once more.

After Li Xiumei returned to her room, Sun Qiuhua fell into deep thought again.
She was most afraid of the meeting tomorrow. Once Zhao Xiaosong arrived, Li Xiumei's background would no longer be a secret.
The more Sun Qiuhua thought about it, the more anxious she became; she wished she could take Li Xiumei and leave the village immediately. But she couldn't, because Li Xiumei would never agree to it.
As her anxiety grew, she suddenly heard Li's Father's voice from outside. "I'm back!" he called out.

"Where's Xiu Mei?" he asked again.

"What is it already?" Li's Father grew impatient.
"It's that the eldest sister sent someone to pick up Xiu Mei," Sun Qiuhua gathered her courage to say.
"What?" Li's Father was instantly shocked.
"The eldest sister sent someone to pick up Xiu Mei," Sun Qiuhua repeated.
"Eldest sister? You mean... you mean..." Li's Father said in disbelief.
"Yes, it's the eldest sister," Sun Qiuhua confirmed firmly.
"Didn't she say she didn't want Xiu Mei anymore?" Li's Father said angrily.
"I don't know why she suddenly wants Xiu Mei now," Sun Qiuhua said helplessly.
"Hmph, when she didn't want Xiu Mei, she called her a burden, and now suddenly there's a son appearing out of nowhere—who knows what kind of tricks she's playing," Li's Father said furiously.
