He Dong said, "Look at Rao Jie; she's still burning up with fever and looks exhausted. With so many of us here making noise, it's not good for her to rest. The nurse will come over and scold us soon, so let's hurry and leave!"
As he spoke, he pushed Long Yong out the door. Long Yong glanced back at Rao Jie with concern. She smiled at him, which finally prompted him to step outside.
Wei Qian understood what Rao Jie meant and pulled Wu Xin along to leave. Wu Xin wanted to drag her brother along too, but Wu Rong seemed reluctant to go.
Wu Xin quickly whispered a threat, "If you stay here like this, you'll only make things harder for Rao Jie. She'll definitely end up hating you."
Wu Xin spoke softly enough that others couldn't hear clearly, but after hesitating for a moment, Wu Rong followed Wu Xin out.
However, once outside, everyone unexpectedly lingered by the door without leaving, and no one spoke a word. Inside the room remained just the three family members.
Rao Jie felt extremely fatigued, weakly leaning against her pillow as she looked at her parents. Huang Xiang's earlier words had hit her hard, making her feel even worse as if a fire was burning deep within her bones.
Rao Gang opened his mouth to express concern for Rao Jie's health. She answered him one by one, and then he asked if she wanted some fruit or water. Unfortunately, they hadn’t brought anything themselves, but Rao Jie’s friends had brought plenty.
"Alright, enough of the rambling! Rao Jie, let me ask you this: is this whole situation really not related to you?"
Rao Jie took a deep breath and tried to speak calmly. "If I were involved in any way, their parents would have already made a scene. They only dare to act up in front of you because you don’t know anything."
Rao Gang immediately replied, "I knew it!"
Huang Xiang sighed in relief and said, "That's good to hear. Rao Jie, you mustn't get involved in any dirty business that could ruin your reputation. If word gets out, how will you ever get married?"
Rao Jie gritted her teeth but didn’t respond; she simply listened silently. She had grown accustomed to it—arguing was pointless; letting it go in one ear and out the other was the smartest approach.
But once Huang Xiang started lecturing, it seemed there was no end in sight. It was as if she had finally caught Rao Jie making a mistake and wanted to hold it over her head indefinitely.
"Now you see how troublesome it is not having family support? You have to endure all the hardships alone while thinking you can soar high above it all. In the end, who do you think you'll rely on?"
What did she mean by relying on them?
Rao Jie continued to clench her teeth; arguing with her parents was futile.
If you speak without reason, they scold you. If you speak with reason, they accuse you of being unfilial for pointing out their mistakes or daring to talk back.
It's all the fault of the children, isn't it?
So Rao Jie continued to endure.
"Alright, once we confirm everything is fine, let's get you discharged quickly. It's just a fever; you'll be fine after some IV fluids and rest at home. By the way, where are you staying now?"
Rao Jie was taken aback. Did her mother just suggest she go home?
"I'm staying at a friend's place."
Huang Xiang decided firmly, "Don't stay there; come back home. You're so disobedient, and yet you're still my daughter. I have to take care of you myself."
Rao Jie didn't know how to feel about this decision. Just then, Huang Xiang's phone suddenly vibrated.
Huang Xiang pulled it out and immediately broke into a smile. However, when she looked at Rao Jie again, her expression changed. "Your older brother is bringing Xiao Hu to visit you later. Just look at how considerate Xiao Hu is! The moment you had an issue, they rushed over to check on you. Once you're back home, make sure to get along well with them. After all, your boyfriend has already broken up with you; there's no point in holding on anymore. Let me tell you, Xiao Hu is a hundred times better than your ex-boyfriend; it's just that you lack the vision to appreciate it."
